Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell is a local charity that provides advice and information for anyone that lives, works or studies in Epsom and Ewell.

We deliver our service through as many different channels as we can to make sure we are accessible to everyone.  This includes face to face, phone, video conferencing, and email. The role is based in our Epsom office.

This post will provide advice via a number of different channels including telephone, outreach and appointments. It is the main point of access for clients and provides a first response on the full range of advice issues including benefits, debt, housing, family and employment.  This adviser role offers great variety, providing holistic advice answering queries and supplementing existing advice, empowering clients to understand and assert their rights.

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic and organised team player.  No experience of working in the charity sector is needed but the successful candidate will have a keen interest in helping people in need no matter what their background. You will have effective communication skills and an ability to work pro-actively, both individually and within a team, along with being able to demonstrate effective computer literacy.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Policy and Public Affairs Officer to join our team. This position is based in the Policy and Public Affairs department and the team sits under the Executive Director of External Affairs. About you

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on World Cancer Research Fund International’s Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global). CUP Global (previously known as CUP) is a unique, long-standing, and rigorous research programme that systematically gathers, analyses, and judges the strength of the global evidence on how diet, nutrition, physical activity and body weight affect cancer risk and survival. This work led to the publication of the authoritative Third Expert Report in 2018, which now needs updating in places to remain relevant and impactful. 

As Senior Research Interpretation Officer, you will be a valuable member of the Research Interpretation team and the CUP Global scientific Secretariat. Your core work will be supporting the management of CUP Global on a day-to-day basis to help deliver its main objective of updating the Third Expert Report. You will provide scientific input, administrative support, and help coordinate specific work areas of CUP Global.

We are looking to recruit someone who has a Masters degree in public health sciences, particularly nutrition and/or cancer research, and with a good understanding of epidemiological concepts. About this key role

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to identify and assess young victims of violence, you will also provide support, advice and advocacy for children, young people and their families as they plan to be discharged from hospital back into the community.  You will produce support and risk management plans based on your assessments and also deliver a holistic support service, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates, to each client.  This will include providing practical guidance with social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, ETE options, benefits work, debt advice, DIY work and cleaning.

We will also count on you to develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, including community-based services such as police, children’s services and local authorities, while closing cases efficiently and positively, identifying a referral route for children and young people that will identify agencies that can be used for ongoing support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future is also an essential aspect of the role.

What we are looking for

• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families

• Substantial experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and of using support plans

• Substantial experience of assessing the needs of CYP who are at risk of significant harm

• Proven record of engaging successfully with ‘challenging’ young people

• A working knowledge of relevant services for young people and their families in the service provision area (mainly North and West London but potentially further

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

In both roles, we are looking for someone to develop and lead research projects that generate arguments, policies and ideas to address the social and economic challenges that underpin poverty and household economic insecurity in the UK today and chart a course to a different and better future.

You will devise, lead and deliver high quality economic analysis and thinking to JRF’s policy & ideas work and offer a professional economics perspective across the wider organisation – and as a trusted, expert voice externally. You will seek out and connect with people or organisations developing new ideas and strategies that can contribute to our mission; and to develop proposals for how JRF should use its platform and resources to support their development and diffusion.

About you

As a Senior Economist, we would like you to either have a professional economics training or equivalent professional work experience, advanced data analysis skills and the ability to use a wide range of tools and software to undertake large scale and groundbreaking economic analysis (including using micro-data from major national surveys).

With experience of working on policy issues relating to poverty, you will have significant experience of having initiated, designed, led and delivered projects that included original economic analysis that generated a different or better understanding of policy challenges and helped to guide new arguments and ideas. You will be able to think critically and creatively, analyse and problem solve, and contribute to the generation of new ideas and alternative ways of approaching an issue, able to communicate arguments and ideas persuasively, via writing and speaking.

You will have advanced knowledge and critical awareness of economic theory, principles, datasets and analytical techniques and how to deploy these effectively in support of understanding and addressing the drivers of household economic insecurity. With significant knowledge of one or both of macroeconomics or UK fiscal policy and a strong understanding of how policy making works across the UK, devolved and sub-national governments, you will have an awareness and engagement with relevant political, policy and intellectual debates, plus models and approaches to social change.

Our Academy Tutor/Assessor Associates will deliver inspiring training, develop and review resources and ensure all activities are in line with both NYA and external expectations of quality and expertise.

The Academy Team are reflective expert trainers and facilitators. The Academy Tutor will ensure the NYA is at the forefront of developing its products and services.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join IRMO as our Youth Project Coordinator and lead the Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF) – IRMO’s youth-led group for migrant and refugee young people aged 13–19.

LAYF offers a safe, supportive and trilingual space (Spanish, Portuguese and English) where young people can overcome barriers and begin to find their feet in the UK. Activities are designed to build confidence, support integration and foster leadership. Through the programme, participants can learn English through fun and engaging ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, take part in weekly educational, arts-based and themed workshops, and receive one-to-one support through a targeted coaching programme focused on education, volunteering and employment.

Young people also have the opportunity to join the LAYF Youth Steering Group, where they can develop leadership skills and inspire other Spanish and Portuguese-speaking young people, while exploring London and beyond through cultural trips and residentials.

As Youth Project Coordinator, you will be responsible for registering and onboarding new participants, designing and delivering a creative weekly programme of LAYF Space Workshops, and offering one-to-one mentoring to help young people access opportunities and build confidence. You’ll work closely with IRMO’s ESOL and Advice and Advocacy teams to ensure a joined-up and holistic approach.

This is a varied role that requires empathy, creativity and excellent organisational skills. You will play a key part in ensuring all activities are inclusive, engaging and safe, while monitoring progress and capturing the achievements of the young people involved. You’ll also be a positive role model, helping each participant realise their potential and feel empowered in their journey.

LAYF is delivered as part of Building Young Brixton (BYB), a consortium of ten Lambeth-based organisations working together to inspire and empower young people in the borough. Partnership working is central to the LAYF ethos, and the Youth Project Coordinator will collaborate closely with BYB partners to co-create activities, share skills and strengthen impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit and register LAYF participants by assessing individual needs and matching them with appropriate activities

• Plan, co-produce and deliver a dynamic and engaging programme of LAYF activities – from arts and sport to inspirational talks – designed to build young people’s confidence, life skills and social connection

• Coach and support young people to thrive in their education and personal development through a targeted one-to-one coaching programme

• Plan and deliver quarterly trips and events that promote peer interaction and engagement with the local community

• Signpost and refer young people to relevant services at IRMO, BYB or other external partners

We are currently recruiting for a Philanthropy Executive to join our Philanthropy & Partnerships team in the Fundraising Directorate. The Philanthropy Executive will develop relationships with Major Donors and Family Foundations through research, events, proposals, and excellent stewardship. ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role builds on the work of our Feminist Green New Deal  project. The Feminist Green New Deal puts the needs and priorities of women, racialised and marginalised groups at the heart of all climate policy and action and advocates for a care-led green recovery from our multiple crises of climate breakdown and inequality. The role will continue to develop our Feminist Green New Deal work engaging new audiences, stakeholders and writing new policy papers. 

As a Feminist Climate Justice Policy Campaigner you will make connections with policy makers, government departments, NGOs and influencers, bringing an intersectional feminist lens to these spaces. You will need to keep up to speed with UK climate policies and how these impact women. 

Wen works at the grassroots and policy level ensuring that grassroots perspectives are part of and shape climate policy making so a key part of the role will be linking these two levels.  You will work closely with our Climate Sisters  programme and the Tower Hamlets Food Partnership which inform our Feminist Green New Deal policy asks and campaigns, advocating for inclusive climate policy rooted in the priorities of women,  particularly racialised and marginalised groups.  We are looking to recruit a policy campaigner with in-depth  knowledge of the policy systems and strategic thinking about how to advocate for feminist climate justice at local, regional and national level in the UK working in collaboration with others.

Key responsibilities:

• Bring an intersectional feminist climate justice lens to policy makers and debates with a focus on climate, health, food justice and environmental policies

• Work collaboratively with Wen’s Climate Sisters team to make strong connections between the grassroots and policy, drafting and devising policy responses to influence government climate policy

• Develop strategic partnerships and relationships with MPs, government departments, All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), Ministers, Select Committees and key organisations in this field
