Tushinde Children’s Trust, founded in 2010, believes the best place for children to grow up is in their family units. We work in the informal settlements of Mathare and Kiambiu of Nairobi, Kenya. Our targeted programmes and dedicated social workers provide tailored family care and access to education for the poorest families. We help families strengthen and stay together. We provide families with a path from crisis to independence. We support families to help children thrive.

Tushinde is a child-focused organisation and committed to child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults. All shortlisted candidates will be screened prior to joining the board and have background checks that may go beyond contacting referees. Every candidate, regardless of post applied for, will be expected to adhere to the principles of child protection and ensure that those around them do the same.

Tushinde is a UK registered charity, with a board of six trustees. Its programme is delivered through a Kenyan registered NGO of the same name, which has its own independent board of trustees. We are looking for up to three new trustees to join our UK board, to compliment and broaden the skills and knowledge of our existing trustees. 

The Board of trustees meets four times a year and is responsible for ensuring:

• We comply with our governing document and the law

• Act in the charity’s best interest

• Manage the charity’s resources responsibly

• Act with reasonable skill and care

• Ensure we are accountable to our stakeholders

In addition, we focus on:

• Oversight of the Kenyan operations, particularly safeguarding

• Fundraising to support our ongoing programme

• Potential partnership opportunities

• UK charity governance

Beyond the regular board meetings there are plenty of opportunities to support the organisation both in the UK and Kenya. All UK meetings are remote and are typically scheduled at 18:00 UK time.

We are looking for a flexible, committed and reliable individual who has an interest in child welfare in Africa. In addition, we would be particularly interested to hear from individuals with any of the following skills or experience:

• Fundraising, particularly growing or diversifying income streams

• Child welfare, particularly in low or middle income countries

• Risk and charity governance

• And finally, if you have experience of or a connection to Kenya or East Africa even better!

Independent Trustee - The PA Foundation

Summary of the Role: As a Trustee, you'll be responsible for setting strategic aims, objectives, and direction. You'll ensure YSS achieves its objectives, represents stakeholders' interests, and act as an ambassador for the charity.

Structure, Governance, and Management: YSS is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Board delegates responsibility for day-to-day management to the Managing Director, aided by the Senior Management and Leadership Team.

Strategy: YSS has a broad 3-year strategy linked to our organizational Theory of Change. Bi-annual strategic reviews are undertaken by the Trustees and Senior Management Team.

Priorities for 2024-2025:

· Implementation of impact measurement metrics

The Council of Deans of Health is a dynamic and influential charity and membership organisation representing the interests of university faculties engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery, and the allied health professions across the UK.

With a presence spanning England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar, we operate as a charity registered across the UK, advocating for the vital role our members play in health and social care. We're looking for an Independent Trustee to join our valued Board of Trustees who will play a pivotal role in ensuring IPEM is well governed. This is an exciting time to join IPEM, with an ambitious growth plan agreed for the next 5 years. 

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Institute and the Trustees are collectively and separately responsible for ensuring that the Institute complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations and that all its activities are in accordance with the objects of the Institute and other legislative requirements.

We anticipate a time commitment of up to 12 days per year. Independent Members are sometimes asked to join sub-committees of Trustees. Trustee meetings are held every quarter, rotating between York and London and are held during the working day. This role is only available to non-IPEM members. 

Following the decision by the Boards of all 28 London Citizens Advice charities to create a new and consortium, London Citizens Advice are seeking Trustees.

For the past two years London Citizens Advice has worked as an immensely successful informal coalition. On 27 February 2024 the Boards of the 28 London Citizens Advice charities approved the decision to transfer to a legal entity including registration with regulatory bodies and the draft Articles of the new charity. 

We are looking for energetic, talented and committed individuals to join us as trustees.

The new charity will have up to twelve trustees. Five will be member trustees (one local citizens advice trustee for a London region), four independent trustees including the Chair of Trustees, and up to three co-opted trustees.

London Citizens Advice is a membership consortium of 28 Citizens Advice charities delivering advice services across London. Each of our members is a member of the national Citizens Advice network of around 250 charities. When we become legally constituted, we will be a consortium member of the Citizens Advice network.

London Citizens Advice exists to support and develop the work of local Citizens Advice, through adopting the following aims:

• Share, promote and assure best practice to build consistency and quality of the Citizens Advice Service
• Manage specified contracts on behalf of external partners in conjunction with agreed participating members.
• Identify and develop partnerships to pursue new sources of funding in London.
• Highlight the impact of, and influence responses to, social welfare issues by lobbying at a London and regional level

Do you have financial skills and enthusiasm to help an organisation that supports families of young children?  You could be the next Treasurer for Home-Start Surrey heath and help drive our vision.

Our board includes people with experience and skills in support for Early Years; we'd expect our new Treasurer to have empathy with our cause and the families we support.

If you have some experience of charity finance, we'd welcome that, although if your experience is from other sectors, please talk to us.  Full induction to our organisation will be provided plus specialist support as a new Trustee, including access to external training.

We’d welcome your financial qualification but that’s not a requirement as our finances aren’t complex. An understanding of how charity finance works is beneficial, with the important ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees. Support from our employees is always available, as they will be dealing with day-to-day finances.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for fresh expertise and experience from a variety of backgrounds to our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.

The duties and responsibilities of our trustees are as follows:

· Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (i.e. the trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law, employment law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

· Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public

· Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets

· Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation

· Ensuring the effective and efficient administration and governance of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place

· Understanding the responsibilities and liabilities of being a trustee

· Undertaking induction and relevant training as identified for the role

· Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation

· Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds

· Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the Chief Executive

· In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. Although founded as an independent charity in 2018, OBS’s work is a continuation of 12 years of breastfeeding support under the Baby Café umbrella. OBS is well known and respected in the community, with strong and valuable relationships with other service providers in the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary sectors. OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to act as treasurer of trustees for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, treasurer of the trustees will:

• Provide financial leadership to the board of trustees, offering valuable insights and recommendations on financial planning, budgeting, and investment decisions.

• Oversee the development and implementation of the charity's financial policies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.

• Prepare and present financial reports at board meetings, providing clear and concise updates on the charity's financial performance and projections. This would include preparing an annual budget and monthly management accounts.

This would also include assisting in the preparation of the financial information for grant applications and assisting with preparing reports at the end of the grant period to show compliance with financial restrictions of any grants

• Keep abreast of financial trends, legal requirements, and best practices in the charity sector, sharing relevant insights with the board and staff
