Job description

Full Time Debt & Financial Capability Caseworker

Starting Salary £22,000 pa raising to £23,100 pa on completion of reasonable probation period

Positions available for caseworkers who live in East Midlands.

What is my role?

This role is to work on Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) CFO3 Project, part funded by the European Social Fund.  You will be based either at home or in a co-location community venue, and you will help offenders (remotely during C-19 constraints) to resolve their debt problems and gain skills in managing their money through their participation in our accredited training schemes.  You will support participants towards mainstream provision and employment.  Your success will be achieved through debt resolution and by supporting participants to access comprehensive financial support mechanisms as appropriate to individual circumstances and identified needs.

Where will I be working?

We have succeeded during the C-19 lockdown and restrictions by maintaining flexibility.  It is likely you will be a fully supported home worker or fully reimbursed when co-locating in partner organisations including probation offices and some prisons. To succeed, you will be provided with the necessary equipment and training so that you can operate in a safe and professional manner, regardless of the location. Person Specification

  • Knowledge of the UK debt resolution processes is essential
  • Achieved or working toward a higher debt advice qualification
  • Be confident you would pass an enhanced DBS check
  • An adept communicator with the ability to persuade, influence and listen to others
  • Able to display strong motivational and organisational skills
  • Attentive to detail with a strong focus on quality
  • Competent in the use of all technology with excellent IT skills
  • Be able to apply lateral thinking and problem-solving techniques to a range of often challenging situations

Key Tasks

  • Manage a diverse caseload of participants, both remotely or in person, on a one-to-one and group basis, in either a community or custody setting
  • To support eligible project participants by liaising on their behalf with creditors, housing providers and Magistrate Courts 
  • Liaise with all stakeholders to help create a stable financial position for participants to prevent reoffending
  • Undertake thorough assessments to identify often complex financial barriers and implement appropriate support plans to meet the financial needs of programme participants
  • To utilise training products to facilitate improved financial and social inclusion skills
  • To represent us in meetings relevant to the organisation or participant, upholding the organisation’s values and professional reputation at all times
  • To accurately maintain relevant documentation and IT systems and produce accurate and timely management information
  • To adhere to quality processes and procedures
  • To monitor own progress towards business and individual objectives
  • Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, each employee has a responsibility to Health and Safety and must also adhere to their responsibilities as laid out in the H&S Policy
  • Any other related duties as required by the business
