Job Purpose
Oceana is seeking an experienced Development Lead to curate, grow and diversify our rapidly expanding fundraising and partnerships portfolio. Working closely with our UK team and US-based international development team, you will be responsible for the collaborative stewardship of relationships with some of the world’s biggest environmental foundations and philanthropists.
You will help identify and drive new relationships, managing successful grant applications with trusts and foundations in the UK, and cultivating new fundraising streams. You will have a strategic mindset along with a meticulous attention to detail. Fostering exemplary relationships with diverse partners is central to the role and critical to our success. You should be experienced in handling competing priorities, delivering exceptional funding applications and reports, and providing updates with precision and confidence. You will also have a passion for growing and diversifying income streams and converting new interest into long-term, sustainable, support.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and People, you will work closely with our teams, and the global development department, to secure the sustainable resources Oceana UK needs to deliver further impact at this crucial time for our ocean. The role will also help Oceana maximise opportunities to deliver policy victories for UK seas for many years to come and strengthen our work globally.
You will be a self-starter, with a broad range of previous experience, and the ability to develop and manage your priorities in this new role. You will be comfortable working independently and as part of a small team. The position will be hybrid, with 2 days per week from home and 3 days per week based in Oceana’s office in Paddington, London or in Newquay, Cornwall. Occasional travel will be required to meet team members and stakeholders in geographically diverse locations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of a UK specific fundraising strategy.
- Manage relationships and reporting to existing funders alongside the international development team and Executive Director. This will primarily be with trusts and foundations, and individual philanthropists.
- Identify and develop new opportunities with trusts and foundations.
- Manage successful grant applications and budgets, co-ordinating and collaborating with the international development team.
- Work closely with the finance and campaigns team to ensure all relevant stakeholders are consulted in grant applications and reporting.
- Manage and deliver timely reporting, communications and updates to funding partners and stakeholders.
- Oversee and develop other existing UK income streams, including mass giving.
- Identify, develop and manage additional UK income opportunities, including with smaller trusts and foundations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance and People, and international development and budgeting teams to manage the income forecast and grant financial reporting.
- Maintain appropriate development records and database for all UK activity.
- Develop and manage key fundraising and partnerships events.
- Work with Executive Director to develop our outreach with funders at international events.
- Attend and represent the UK in monthly development meetings with the international team.

Candidate Requirements:
Education and work experience:
- Extensive professional experience in fundraising and development, ideally in the ocean or the environmental space.
- Good professional relationships with environmental trusts and foundations
- Demonstrable experience in managing successful multi-year grant applications and budgets with trusts and foundations.
- Strong experience of managing charitable foundation relationships and delivering detailed and timely reports, and communications to add value where required.
- Experience or working with campaigns teams to develop funding applications.
- Experience of managing philanthropist and major individual donors.
- Experience in prospecting, managing and analysing research on fundraising opportunities.
- Experience in co-developing and diversifying fundraising strategies (mass giving, digital, appeals, etc)
- Clear experience of in co-developing and diversifying fundraising strategies, and writing strategic plans, and contributing to planning and budgeting processes.

We are seeking an experienced fundraising and communications manager to cover maternity leave in our award winning charity working to end homelessness one person at a time in East London.
About the role
Based within the fundraising team, The Fundraising, Communications & Supporter Manager will provide direction and manage the team responsible for brand, communications, events and fundraising through individual giving, legacies, community and corporate partnerships. This role will also directly be responsible for Major Donor relations and income.

Purpose
Reporting to the CEO, the Fundraising Support Manager will support the Fundraising Manager in the fundraising efforts of Crustacean Compassion. This will be role building on two specific areas of work already undertaken, specifically reviewing, and supporting major donors’ proposals, and developing the supporter journey and engagement process.
The applicant will need to have an active knowledge and warm contacts with potential funders, be able to prepare and create proposals immediately as well as use CRM or external screening sources to identify and communicate with potential major donors. They will have expertise across a variety of revenue streams and will have the support of our Campaigns team to develop engaging funding bids designed to create a supporter journey and long-term engagement.
This role will require a substantial amount of proactive independent working, along with close teamwork.
Responsibilities
Priority will be given to applicants with skills to work quickly and actively in the above primary areas achieving set income targets, developing ways to maximise unrestricted income.
General Duties
- Implement the execution of the fundraising strategy to lead income streams, delivering growth in restricted and unrestricted income whilst engaging supporter journeys to active givers.
- Work effectively with our Fundraising Manager and CEO to identify, map, and develop a network of potential donors, and unlock opportunities which can help secure the future of Crustacean Compassion and aid it to deliver its mission.
- Ensure all fundraising initiatives are planned, delivered, monitored, and evaluated effectively as part of a quarterly activity plan recognising external funding cycles.

Major Donor Fundraising
- Review the current CRM to identify potential donors and work to lead and implement maximise income from major donors.

- Introduce your own warm contacts and knowledge of the animal welfare/effective altruism field to support income from individual major donors.
- Working closely with the Fundraising Manager and CEO, oversee the development of individual major donor relationships, and personally manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, as well as advising and supporting the CEO to do so.
- Monitor and support the ongoing recruitment, engagement, and development of high-profile supporter relationships.
- Develop and manage a rolling stewardship and engagement programme, including the use of online and in-person events where budget allows.
- Ensure that the organisational CRM database usage is optimised to facilitate major donor fundraising.
Individual Giving and Community Fundraising
- Review and develop the current supporter journey to lead a regular giving strategy, maximising unrestricted income and supporting donor uplift.
- Develop and implement a stewardship programme through the CRM database.
- With input from the wider team, develop and manage engaging appeals to be run alongside key campaign actions, monitoring their success, and updating activities where necessary, and evaluating performance to inform future appeal plans.

Person specification
Essential
- At least five years of experience working in fundraising, with a proven track record of securing five to six figure gifts ideally in the Animal Welfare field.
- Experience in developing non-profit fundraising strategies, particularly for Major Donors and in developing a supporter journey.
- Evident track record of successfully meeting and exceeding fundraising targets.
- Knowledge and understanding of fundraising, including research sources and funding criteria.
- Evidence of developing successful fundraising applications to institutional and individual grant funders, especially within the Effective Altruism community.

We are a small, highly experienced team who share a passion to support the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people across Surrey. This is a key new role in the Major Relationships unit to support the CEO and Major Relationships Lead in major donor fundraising, an area which has grown in recent years. This locally based post will enhance the prospect pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of major donor prospects, which will help towards meeting the objectives and financial targets for major donor fundraising. The role will cover three main areas of responsibility: Research, Events (organisation/co-ordination) and Admin. This position requires discretion, confidentiality and administrative judgment.
The Major Relationships unit works alongside Grants, Corporates & Community as well as Individual Giving, as part of the wider Engagement (fundraising/marketing) team at Eikon.
Responsibilities
1. Research
-
Identify and prioritise potential major donor prospects in Surrey and beyond, who would be capable of making significant contributions and seem likely to have the propensity to donate i.e. to become major donors.

Produce high quality, tailored and insightful research on major donors.
-
Look at current supporters (all different types/levels) with good contacts/connections/networks and conduct research in order to suggest ways to reach new high net worth individuals across Surrey.
2. Event organisation/co-ordination
-
Organise/coordinate internal and externally run events such as dinners, drinks receptions, sporting events.

Attend key events - approx. 5 each year and sometimes evenings/weekends – welcoming guests and ensuring a positive experience.

Join the CEO and/or the Major Relationships Lead at specific meetings with MDs/MDPs, occasionally evenings/weekends.
3. Admin

Day-to-day support for MDs, MDPs and key influencers (KIs) which could include:

General stewardship including thanking and processing information on Sharepoint and Donorfy (Eikon’s database).

Regular communication including calls, meetings and sharing reports, presentations and other updates.

Database admin, including checking opportunity pipelines and reporting requirements.

Supporting individuals or small groups who are fundraising for us e.g. how to set up and promote a JustGiving page.
4. Marketing, Communications and relationships

Support and liaise with the Marketing and Communications team to deliver relevant and effective content and materials, as well as maximising social media opportunities.

Co-ordinate communications (including distribution) to all MDs/MDPs/KIs eg CEO Update plus Infographic.

Support the CEO and Major Relationships Lead to further develop good relationships with Eikon’s MDs/MDPs/KIs.

The Head of Finance has lead responsibility for overseeing the finance function of the organisation. Strategy and programme development (50%)
