This is an opportunity for someone with a knowledge of financial processes and systems to work on a voluntary basis to support the work of the BEARR Trust in the role of Honorary Treasurer.
The BEARR Trust is seeking to recruit a new Treasurer, responsible for overseeing the Charity’s income and expenditure, preparing regular financial reports to the Board of Trustees and preparing the annual accounts. The Treasurer will also be a Trustee of The BEARR Trust. This role is voluntary.
Background
The BEARR Trust was established in 1992 to support community-based organisations helping vulnerable people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We provide grants to grassroots community groups alongside information and knowledge exchange to build partnerships and strengthen support for vulnerable people through local activity. Currently, we work in ten countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Role description
Specific duties of the Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for:
· Maintaining oversight of The BEARR Trust’s finances
· Providing regular reports (every two months) to Trustees on income, expenditure and financial risks
· Working with the Chairman to prepare an annual budget, and keeping track of performance against the budget throughout the year
· Ensuring that partners and suppliers are paid efficiently. This includes making international payments, most of which are done via Convera
· Preparing the Annual Accounts for independent examination, and liaising with the independent examiner to ensure that queries are addressed.
General Trustee duties
As with all charities, the Trustees collectively are responsible for The BEARR Trust’s aims and direction, for its property, finances and the employment of staff and volunteers. All Trustees must:
· Ensure that the Trust complies with charity law and the requirements of the Charity Commission, the Trust’s own charitable purposes and objects, other relevant legislation and the requirement for trustees to act with integrity and avoid any personal conflicts of interest or misuse of charity funds or assets
· Ensure that the Trust is and will remain solvent, use charitable funds and assets wisely, and only to further the Trust’s purposes and interests, while avoiding undertaking activities that might place the Trust’s property, funds, assets or reputation at undue risk
· Exercise reasonable care and skill, using personal knowledge and experience to ensure that the Trust is well-run and efficient, and consider getting external professional advice in all matters where there may be material risk to the Trust.
Beyond these formal duties, Trustees undertake a variety of roles. These include contributing to our newsletter, managing and contributing to events, raising funds and considering applications to the Small Grants Scheme and Ukraine Appeal. There are therefore opportunities to become involved in the wide range of BEARR’s activities.
Person specification
The Treasurer should have:
· A commitment to The BEARR Trust’s goals and charitable objects and an interest in, and some knowledge of, the context for BEARR’s work in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
· Experience of financial management and administration, budgeting and reporting. This does not need to include formal accountancy qualifications – experience may come from general management roles in paid or voluntary work.
Experience in preparing charity accounts using the Charities Statement of Required Practice (SORP) would be advantageous. Experience in fundraising (e.g., preparing funding applications and budgets) would also be welcome.
Time requirement
The time required varies from week to week, although payments need to be made and the accounts updated on at least a weekly basis. Indicatively, this equates to a time requirement of around 3 hours per week, in addition to attendance at Trustee meetings every two months (Trustee meetings are held in London, although remote attendance is also possible). However, time availability and support needed can be discussed with potential volunteers for the role.
Expenses
Trustee roles are unpaid. However, they may claim reasonable travel expenses.

You will have:
- At least 3 years' experience in an HR managerial position.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Though we do not require you to be a native English speaker, you must be Fluent in English.
- Ability to work within organisational targets.
- IT Literacy, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- An understanding of HR-related processes and legislation.
- A CIPD qualification would be advantageous but is not essential depending on relevant experience.

The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) is looking to recruit up to two new Trustees with a particular expertise in policy and public affairs to join its Council.
RSPH is the world’s oldest independent health charity, operating under Royal Charter, dedicated to improving and protecting the public’s health. We want everyone to have the opportunity to optimise their health and wellbeing.
Our vision, voice, and practice guides our work, enabling us to deliver our high-quality services whilst being a strong and sound organisation, so we can impact the public’s health for many years to come.
RSPH has a unique strong and well-established role as a respected, impartial, and trusted voice in public health and is particularly notable for its work with the wider public health workforce. We need to be agile and innovative in meeting the changing needs of our workforce and leading population health and wellbeing.

The Trustees of the RSPH demonstrate a commitment to public health and to using their specific skills, knowledge, and experience to help make collective sound decisions for the benefit of the charity. They are responsible for the governance of RSPH and for setting its vision and mission. The Trustees are responsible for ensuring financial probity and for the strategic direction of the RSPH. They are dedicated to working with the executive to support the objects of RSPH and to ensure that the organisation flourishes to improve and protect the public’s health.
Time Commitment
Every trustee is expected to participate in regular RSPH Council meetings (currently four per annum) and may be asked to serve on a sub-committee of the Council. Trustees may be asked to participate in the educational activities of the RSPH by supporting conferences, publications, external relations, or training programmes.
Opportunities will arise for Trustees to support senior staff in specific projects/initiatives. We would expect you to be able to be able to commit to 8-12 days per year.
Trustees are generally appointed for a three-year term which may be renewed once.
The Trustee skill mix at RSPH
As well as the formal duties, Trustees have a key role both as expert advisers and as a 'critical friend' to the Executive Management Team. Therefore, in seeking to identify new Trustees, we are particularly looking to enhance our current range of skills and experience across the Council with Trustees with the following backgrounds:
- Policy/influencing
- Government relations
- Public affairs
Sub-Committees
RSPH Council has five sub-committees comprising, Audit & Risk, Qualifications Governance, Nominations and Governance, Public Health Workforce and Policy and Impact. We are looking for Trustees who would be able to commit to participation in one or more of these committees. We are especially interested in someone with the expertise to chair our Policy and Impact Committee.
Support from the RSPH
In return for this commitment, the charity will:
- Provide induction, training and support to enable trustees to carry out their role as effectively as possible.
- Give adequate notice of relevant dates and events.
- Provide reports and papers in advance of meetings.
- Respond to information requests and governance queries.
- Trustees at RSPH are unremunerated; however, reasonable expenses will be covered in accordance with our Expenses Policy.

About Croydon Community Energy (CCE)
Croydon Community Energy is the only community energy organisation in Croydon, combining grassroots climate action with real-world renewable power projects. Since launching in 2021, we’ve built a passionate volunteer-led team and are in the process of our first major initiative: installing rooftop solar across three community sites. In early 2025, we successfully raised over £120,000 in community investment in just eight weeks — a huge vote of confidence in our mission to cut carbon, lower energy bills, and empower local people. As a Community Benefit Society, everything we do is rooted in social impact, from delivering free energy advice to creating hands-on opportunities for residents to lead the energy transition.
Job Purpose
As the Finance Director, you will be responsible for monitoring the finances of our community energy group (which is a Community Benefit Society regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority), providing accurate financial forecasting, and ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of our community energy projects. This voluntary position is ideal for someone with financial qualifications and a passion for renewable energy who wants to make a meaningful impact on the transition to clean energy within our community. This role has the aim to establish a sub-group of volunteers to help manage the work, and you will be supported by the Board of Directors and CEO.
The below are example responsibilities you might be undertaking.
Responsibilities
Financial Management

Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effective management of the organisation's financial resources.

Monitor the financial health of the community energy group, regularly reviewing income, expenses, and cash flow.

Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including budgets, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

Conduct periodic financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing recommendations for improvement.

Collaborate with the executive team to develop long-term financial strategies and goals aligned with the organisation's mission.
Financial Planning and Forecasting

Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts, working closely with project teams and stakeholders to gather relevant data and assumptions.

Monitor budgetary performance throughout the year, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures as necessary.

Provide financial projections and scenarios to support decision-making processes related to project funding and resource allocation.

Conduct sensitivity analyses to assess the financial impact of potential changes in project plans, market conditions, or funding sources.
Grant Management and Reporting

Research and identify potential grant opportunities to support community energy projects.

Prepare grant applications, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and requirements, with the support of the Board and other volunteers.

Manage the financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with grant terms.

Generate accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting project progress and financial performance.
Financial Governance and Compliance

Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

Coordinate with external auditors or accountants to facilitate annual audits or reviews.

Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures to safeguard the organisation's financial assets.

Provide guidance and support to the board of directors and executive team on financial matters.

Terms and Conditions
Length of contract: 12 months (until next AGM)
Salary: Voluntary, expenses covered inline with our expenses policy
Hours/days: Approximately 15 hours per month
Place of work: Remote, with occasional face-to-face meetings in Croydon
Upon taking the position, you will be required to sign a Director’s agreement including a commitment to attend monthly Board meetings and monthly wider volunteer meetings (giving reasonable notice if you can’t), and the agreement to log time spent on CCE activities.

Across the UK, our Regional and Community Development teams work alongside our local groups to play an active role in increasing awareness of and engagement with the MS Society locally.
As our Regional Cultural Connector Volunteer, you’ll help to identify and plan our involvement and support of regional or local activities and events aimed at minority, hidden and culturally specific groups, to provide information for people living with MS as well as help us to engage with those communities to understand their priorities and needs.
We want to show that we’re here to support everyone and to do that we need to reach and connect with people within their own communities. You’ll help us do that with a welcoming and friendly attitude and ability to reach and promote us within your region.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.
About you
Confidence in speaking to new people, networking skills and the ability to influence would be fantastic. We would work to your strengths, however and some training will be available.
