As a WHP JETS Self-Employment Advisor, you will be providing advice and support to guide and encourage participants to overcome barriers to start self-employment and achieve realistic job goals. This will be delivered remotely via phone, video conference and other digital channels.
Reporting to a Self-Employment Team Leader, you will be expected to support a caseload of participants, supporting them in self-employment, offering advice and direction to enable participants to access the support they need, and collecting evidence of Self Employment job starts. The role will also involve re-building participant confidence and self-efficacy following a period of unemployment.
You must have an understanding of the local and regional labour market and employment issues within Central England regions of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire, Staffordshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Herefordshire & Worcestershire and able to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of the benefit system and entitlements.

Criminal justice charity Belong provides hope, rehabilitation and recovery for victims and perpetrators of crime.
We are seeking two full time Creative Practitioners to facilitate a series of drama workshops at HMPYOI Brinsford. Drama workshops will provide young men aged 18 – 30 years who are on remand or serving sentences at HMPYOI Brinsford, with the opportunity to engage in themed drama productions based around issues that are relevant to them. These could include psychoactive substances, gang violence, bullying, domestic violence, self-harm and mental health. Drama workshops will be delivered using a trauma-informed, strengths based approach.
The Creative Practitioner positions are exciting opportunities for two reliable, organised, energetic individuals to join Belong's committed, specialist team. The successful applicants will work together to design and deliver two series of drama workshops each month, with each series of workshops lasting one week. Each series of drama workshops will end with a production by the young men, performed to stakeholders and peers within the prison.
The successful candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience of facilitating group work with young people and of working within the criminal justice or a related sector. They will have experience of using creative methods of engaging people in group work, for example puppetry, masks and mask-making, movement and dance, music, spoken word and poetry. The team, which includes social workers, family psychologists, substance misuse specialists, children & family workers, provide intensive support, built around the individuals/family; designed to enable/empower parents to solve problems and overcome their difficulties. The Family Drug and Alcohol Court offers an alternative (and more successful) way of helping parents to overcome their substance misuse, mental health and domestic abuse problems that have put their children at risk of serious harm.
Your challenge? To provide advice, brief and longer term structured interventions, group programmes and training courses to individuals, families and couples. In addition, You will encourage ‘graduates’ of the programme to become ‘Parent Mentors’, supporting other FDAC parents through the process and enhancing their own and others recovery. The foundation's passionate belief is that women's centres should be at the heart of a fresh, alternative approach across the country - fuelled by sustainable funding - for the benefit of women, their children, families and society.
The foundation is funded by a Birmingham-based family who have given in excess of £25 million to good causes to date. You will report directly to the Board of Trustees with four key focus points:
* On-going development and delivery of ambition for a best practice and evidence-based women's centre in Birmingham
* Influence at national policy level to ensure that the voice of women's centres is clearly heard by funders and government
* Continued development of evidence-based monitoring and evaluation tools in collaboration with University of Birmingham
* Review existing and future grants to ensure they deliver maximum impact for women
This is a unique opportunity to tackle the challenges facing women at every level: on the ground, through evidence-based research and by influencing national policy. On our 'wish list':
You're well-versed in the political landscape around women in the criminal justice system and able to confidently navigate the terrain with diplomacy and discretion, managing senior stakeholders with sensitivity. A natural people person with exceptional communication skills. A brilliant listener, rapport builder and effective spokesperson for the foundation. You'll be committed, driven and motivated to drive change with a strong connection to the organisation's vision.
£45-55k pro rata
This is an initial 2-year fixed term contract with potential for extension.
Life and family-friendly employer; open to between 3-5 days dependent on candidate preference.
Flexible on location with regular travel to Birmingham.
