What will you be doing?

The Treasurer will work closely with the Finance and Systems Manager and CEO to provide effective leadership on the financial good governance and resilience of BfN.
Main duties and tasks
The Treasurer has specific key responsibilities relating to their financial knowledge and experience. These include inputting technical expertise and overseeing where appropriate:
· Budgeting, financial control and reporting;
· Fraud risk reduction;
· Management of deposits and investments;
· Contract review and management including potential VAT implications;
· Meaningful reporting to the Directors, regulators and high value/ risk donors;
· Appointment and management of the auditors;
· Managing short and long term cash flow and reserves policy;
· Cost recovery of core expenditure needs;
· Accounting systems, policies and records
The Treasurer will also help the full Board to understand and consider the financial implications of significant decisions.
The Treasurer will be one of the counter-signatories for online banking and applications to high value funders.

What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have a background as a chartered accountant, with experience of risk and strategy. An experience of working with public sector or charities and an understanding of charity finance will be desirable.
Essential
Qualified accountant with hands on experience of managing the finances of an organisation (or equivalent level, Qualified by experience)
Understanding of charity and/ or public sector finances or chartered / management accountant, ready, and able to proactively gain the understanding and insight on charity and public sector finance required for this role
Basic IT skills relevant to the requirements of the role
Hands on experience of governance in a charity or comparable resource-constrained organisation
Experience of managing relationships with auditors and regulators
Strong affinity with and commitment to the work of BfN
Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to a board and other stakeholders
Understanding and commitment to undertake governance and legal duties, including Treasurer responsibilities in particular
Availability to attend Board, FAR and other required meetings, in person or virtual – dates agreed by consultation in advance
Ready, willing and able to provide ad hoc advisory input as required to the Finance and Systems Manager, CEO, FAR, Chair and wider Board by email and attend remote meetings with BfN

2.The Role of the Board
At its most fundamental the role of the trustee board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Oxfordshire Youth. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of Oxfordshire Youth, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. Trustees are ultimately and legally responsible for everything Oxfordshire Youth does. Trustees fulfil this responsibility by deciding the strategy, establishing organisational policies and implementing appropriate monitoring, reporting and control mechanisms to ensure and evidence compliance. Trustees appoint the CEO and, on recommendation by the CEO, appoint the Senior Leadership Team to manage all operational matters and the operational team in line with the approved strategy, policies and control mechanisms.
3.Duties of a Trustee
The statutory duties of a trustee are
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations
● Ensure that Oxfordshire Youth pursues its objects as defined in its Articles of Association
● Ensure Oxfordshire Youth applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be
● Contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving firm strategic direction to Oxfordshire Youth, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
● Safeguard the good name and values of Oxfordshire Youth
● Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization
● Ensure the financial stability of Oxfordshire Youth
● Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
● Appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor performance
In addition to the statutory duties listed above, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise. 4. Minimum Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Oxfordshire Youth prior to their first board meeting. 5.Person Specification
Each trustee must have:
● A commitment to the mission of Oxfordshire Youth

Safeguarding Lead Trustee
Location: London (Hybrid)
Remuneration: This is an unremunerated role. However, expenses such as childcare, care for other dependants, and travel will be covered to support attendance at board meetings.
Our client is a registered Charity Incorporated Organisation that aims to support and invest in young people (predominantly 18-25 years old) through their adolescent years which can be difficult because of both personal circumstances and the injustices in society. They fund work nationally, as well as having a specific focus on several counties in the South East of England. The grants they make total c. £3 million per year.
The Trust has evolved a lot over the years and is very much values driven around their mission “to bring lasting change to the lives of young people; investing in them as powerful forces for change and acting upon their right to be heard in pursuit of a fair and just society.” They really want to be a foundation that listens well and gives young people power to change and improve society whilst staying responsible, trusting and progressive. They do this primarily by providing grants to organisations working with young people, influencing youth policy alongside them and investing directly in young changemakers.
The Trust is looking for a new Safeguarding Lead Trustee to join their inclusive, inspiring and professional Board. You will be the champion for safeguarding throughout the organisation and Board and will bring excellent experience around safeguarding young people, with support from the Safeguarding Committee. We strive for diversity in our Board and currently have surveyors who specialise in valuation, project management, planning and development, real estate, investment and land economy, and from a range of backgrounds and with different lived experience.
But trustees do not need to be surveyors at all - in fact, we’d love to hear from partners or family members of surveyors, or those from other backgrounds who are keen to contribute to a charity board.
Our trustees are appointed on a three-year term, with the option to renew.
We are looking for people who have skills, experience and knowledge that will be of benefit to the organisation as we continue to develop how we serve the surveying community. Applicants will need to demonstrate:

The Criminal Justice Alliance (CJA) is a network of 200+ organisations and academics working towards a fair and effective criminal justice system. Working with our members, the CJA brings together a broad and diverse range of expertise across the sector, championing and elevating the voices of those directly impacted by the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities
The role of a Trustee is to ensure that In2scienceUK fulfils its duty to the young people with whom it works and delivers on its vision. The trustees of In2scienceUK fulfil an essential and influential role, and have the opportunity to both support the activities and strategic decision making of the charity.
Trustees have collective responsibility for the strategy and oversight of the charity and the trustee board works as a team to fulfill its statutory role, to provide help and advice to the staff team, and to represent the organisation in their respective networks.
The expected duties of an In2scienceUK trustee are:
- To contribute actively to teamwork within the Board of Trustees, providing strong strategic direction to the organisation in line with its mission and purpose.
- To safeguard the reputation and values of In2scienceUK and ensure the effective and efficient administration and financial stability of In2scienceUK.
- Support the effective running of the organisation, by scrutinising the work of the leadership team in a way that is supportive and motivational. Trustees collectively hold executive staff to account for their performance, are involved in executive appointments as appropriate and appoint a Chief Executive Officer whenever necessary.
- Serve in one or more subgroups of the board for a deeper dive into Income/Growth, Operational Assurance, Evaluation & Learning, and People.
- To ensure that in2scienceUK complies with articles of association and fulfils charity commission responsibilities.
Experience and skills
The most important characteristic of our trustees is a commitment to helping young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds access social mobility through careers in STEM, and so helping to ensure that the STEM professions are populated by people reflecting diverse backgrounds, in all respects including socio-economic background.
We need the right mix of skills overall and anticipate making 4-6 appointments in this round who will work collaboratively to ensure good governance and the success of the organisation. Specific areas where we would like to strengthen the team, bearing in mind our natural turnover and our strategy for the future, are listed below. If you are able to contribute in one or more of these areas, please make this especially clear in your application.
Lived experience: Personal experience of transitioning into STEM degrees and careers from an underrepresented background.

Treasurer: We are currently seeking a Treasurer to join the board of Trustees and take the lead on finance. This is an immediate vacancy with our current Treasurer coming to the end of their term. The Treasurer will be a qualified accountant. We are looking for people who have pre-existing experience or desire to support an organisation of our size. As such, the role will be both providing financial oversight and governance as well as providing advice, support and guidance to our executive team. Those applying without prior charity accounting experience should be willing to undertake any relevant training.
Chair succession: While not an immediate appointment, as part of managing Chair succession we are interested in people who would be candidates for a chair designate role and chair in due course, probably via an initial Vice Chair position within the organisation.

NOA's Mission:
The NOA is a conservation organisation dedicated to the scientific study of birds and other wildlife, with four visitor reserves in Norfolk. We collect information which helps us to monitor and understand how birds and wildlife are coping year to year. Our work also enables people to encounter wildlife in a friendly and personal way. The results of the Association’s work are published yearly in its annual reports
Purpose of the Role:
The Treasurer plays a crucial strategic oversight role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the Norfolk Ornithologists Association (NOA). This role is focused on maintaining financial probity, providing clear financial guidance to the Board of Trustees, and ensuring that NOA’s financial practices are transparent, compliant, and well-managed. As a full Trustee, the Treasurer holds collective oversight and responsibility across all aspects of the organisation, not just in financial matters, ensuring that all decisions align with the organisation’s broader mission to conserve and protect Norfolk’s wildlife and habitats.
This is a high-impact volunteer position requiring strategic financial oversight rather than day-to-day involvement in operational tasks. The Treasurer will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees, providing leadership and contributing to decision-making on a wide range of organisational matters.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Oversight and Governance:
- Ensure the financial integrity of NOA by overseeing the organisation ’s financial reporting and controls, acting as the nominal account holder for our accounts.
- Review and approve financial reports and statements prepared by an outsourced team of bookkeepers, ensuring they are accurate, complete, comply with legal requirements, and are submitted to the Charity Commission before the end of October each year.
- Provide strategic advice to the Board of Trustees on financial matters, helping to ensure that financial decisions align with NOA's long-term goals and mission.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and charity law, including proper reporting to the Charity Commission, and that NOA’s registration is up-to-date.
2. Budgeting and Financial Planning:
- Support the creation of the annual budget, ensuring it aligns with NOA’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Advise the Board on long-term financial planning and sustainability, helping to identify opportunities for growth or savings.
3. Financial Strategy:
- Ensure NOA’s financial practices and resources are used effectively to support conservation work and the fulfilment of the organisation’s mission.
- Provide guidance to help NOA navigate financial challenges, ensuring appropriate use of reserves and funding.
4. Working with the Team:
- Work closely with the bookkeeper and the Warden team to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day financial tasks, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, without directly managing these processes.
- Ensure that the Quarterly Gift Aid claim is submitted to HMRC.
- Review financial records and key documents, including budgets, annual reports, and financial statements, in collaboration with the team.
5. Strategic Advice and Reporting to the Board:
- Report to the Board regularly on the organisation ’s financial health, making recommendations for any necessary corrective actions or strategic decisions.
- Advise the Board on the potential impact of external financial factors (e.g., funding sources, investments, and grants).
6. Supporting Fundraising and Financial Sustainability:
- Assist in fundraising strategy development, particularly with regard to long-term financial sustainability, including legacy donations and major fundraising initiatives.
- Help ensure that NOA’s funding sources are diversified and stable to support ongoing conservation projects.
Skills and Experience:
- Organizational and Financial Oversight: Strong organizational skills with an ability to assess and oversee financial operations. Experience in managing or advising on financial matters is highly beneficial, but the role does not require professional accounting qualifications.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically about NOA’s long-term financial health and sustainability.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to financial accuracy and integrity.
- Experience with Governance: Experience working within a board or governance structure is desirable but not essential.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain financial matters to Trustees and other stakeholders who may not have a financial background.
Time Commitment and Trustee Role:
As a full Trustee, the Treasurer will have a responsibility to attend regular Board meetings, which typically occur monthly, and the annual AGM.
Each Board meeting will last approximately two hours, and will be held predominantly at Holme-next-the-sea, occasionally virtual.
Trustees are expected to contribute actively to Board discussions, decisions, and the strategic direction of NOA. The Treasurer will also play a key role in shaping financial and strategic decisions across the organisation.
In addition to Board meetings, Trustees may be asked to serve on or contribute to specific subcommittees within the Board, depending on the organisation’s needs. Participation in these committees is flexible but will provide an opportunity to have more focused involvement in particular areas of the organisation.
