An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Refuge’s Development Team. The team focuses on working collaboratively with local and national government commissioners to influence service design, and secure statutory funding for our national network of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG) support services; this involves competitive commissioning for all our services.

We are seeking a Senior Bid Development Officer to support future sustainability, growth and development for Refuge within the VAWG sector.  You will work as part of a small but dynamic Development Team; identifying and assessing opportunities, working collaboratively to facilitate the design of services, and producing compelling and persuasive written material in response to complex tender opportunities.  Understanding the needs of both our service users and our commissioners will be critical to ensuring success in this role.

Scope of role

This recently created role within the Noah’s Ark Charity, which will grow our regional community fundraising presence and offering.  The postholder will know the West Wales area well and will become the expert in fundraising opportunities within the region, building strong relationships within the community, including companies and will develop supporter-led activity. The postholder will plan for and deliver income for the charity within the region, in line with wider fundraising strategy. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Income generation

- To plan for and deliver income to target through key performance indicators as agreed with community fundraising manager.

- To develop new supporter relationships within the community, in a planned way, to achieve income and provide excellent supporter care to ensure the relationship is ongoing, beyond one-off support for the charity.

- To lead on and deliver community fundraising within the region, through relationships with patient families, third party fundraisers, community groups, schools and education establishments and public bodies.

- To build strong corporate partnerships within the region, to an agreed income level, with the support of the community fundraising manager and head of fundraising and development.

- To lead on key projects to develop income generation.

- To contribute to the strategic development of community fundraising.

- Plan and deliver events in the community where necessary.

- Secure and deliver engaging presentations to groups and organisations.

2. Ambassador programme

- To build the family ambassador programme within the region, growing the network of key supporters who will represent and be the face of the charity within their local community.

- Support the community fundraising manager with the development of the ambassador programme including training and thanking opportunities.

3. Supporter experience

- To champion consistent and excellent supporter care.

- To record all communications accurately on the database, ensuring information is gathered and recorded in accordance with the requirements of the data protection act, GDPR and the charity’s data protection policy.

- To respond to supporter enquiries in a timely manner and deal with complaints, escalating as appropriate.

- To deliver an excellent supporter journey and contribute to the central supporter journey for community fundraising. 

4. Cross team working

- To work collaboratively with fundraising colleagues across the team to deliver wider fundraising income and charity objectives.  For example, gifts in wills, regular giving, event participation, volunteering and communications.

5. Budgets

- Work with the community fundraising manager and head of fundraising and development, to build and manage a detailed fundraising budget, including income and expenditure.

- Provide forecasts throughout the year, for agreed streams of income.

6. Best practice

- Ensure all fundraising practice is in line with organisational guidelines and policies.

- Encourage and champion compliance and best practice within the fundraising team.

- Ensure own compliance with fundraising standards and requirements, keeping up to date with key policies and regulations, including the fundraising regulator, chartered institute of fundraising and the charity commission.

7. Undertake any other duties which might be required to fulfil the general purpose of the post.

Our passionate Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.

You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.

To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.

Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the North East England or Yorkshire region, which includes North, South, East and West Yorkshire, Teesside, County Durham, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. There will be occasional travel around these areas, and you may be required to travel at short notice for face-to-face meetings.

About the team

The team work remotely and pride themselves in maintaining a close working bond which ensures the smooth operation of the office. You will work closely with volunteers from the eight SSAFA branches in the Northeast and Yorkshire, supporting them to administer casework for SSAFA beneficiaries. The successful candidate will work as part of a team 8, which includes a Regional Casework Manager and a Regional Manager for Casework and Community Engagement.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have a track record of providing welfare advice in key areas such as housing, benefits, debt, disability, mobility or immigration issues. You will have knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR and experience in dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable situations. You will be able to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail and face to face. You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

It would be advantageous if you have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families and if you have experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers. An understanding of the voluntary sector and preferably the military charity sector landscape across the Northeast and Yorkshire would be valuable.

Our Research Management & Impact team oversees a diverse and growing portfolio of funded projects, research partnerships, and knowledge mobilisation activities. You'll join a collaborative, forward-thinking team dedicated to building the evidence base that drives real-world improvements in palliative and end of life care.

As our Research Manager - Partnerships, you'll play a pivotal role in building and nurturing strategic partnerships to advance palliative and end of life care research in the UK. You will lead the setup of a new Palliative and End of Life Care Research Funders Forum, coordinate stakeholder engagement activities, and support impact planning across a select portfolio of research grants. This is a unique opportunity to help shape national research priorities and influence the future of care through collaboration, insight, and innovation.

Main responsibilities:
- Establish and manage a new Research Funders Forum for palliative and end of life care, engaging with the Government and charitable funding bodies.
- Plan and organise workshops and other activities following the identification of the top 10 research priorities in the collaborative Palliative and end of life care Priority Setting Partnership with the James Lind Alliance.
- Identify new opportunities for strategic research partnerships by reviewing databases and networks.
- Monitor a small portfolio of externally funded research projects, ensuring delivery and maximising their policy and practice impact.
- Manage partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including research funders, academic collaborators, and sector bodies.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Policy, Caring Services, Comms) to amplify the reach and impact of research outputs.
- Stay informed on developments in the research and end of life care landscape to inform strategic decision-making.

Key Criteria:
- Background in research (delivery or support) and solid knowledge of the UK research funding environment.
- Educated to at least degree level in a health or research-related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple complex projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confidence working across stakeholders to build and maintain engagement.
- Understanding of research impact and experience organising external-facing events or workshops.
- Research presentation experience and knowledge of qualitative/quantitative methods.
- Familiarity with the charity sector or palliative care landscape will be an asset.

About the Role

The Head of Finance will work closely with the Management Accountant and Senior Financial Officer to ensure the integrity of the financial controls, policies and procedures of the organisation and timely, accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders. Within the business they will be a trusted advisor on areas of financial governance and reporting. You will work alongside the Director of Finance and Business Support to facilitate strategic decision making with reference to robust financial evidence.

The Head of Finance will have line management responsibilities for the Management Accountant and the Senior Financial Officer.

We are looking for an experienced leader with an excellent track record of providing financial services in the not for profit sector. You will have an in depth understanding of delivering central/local authority contracts, grants and fundraising. Our ideal candidate will be someone with a qualified and experienced finance professional background, with a strong track record in financial leadership, ideally within the non-profit or charity sector. With excellent strategic and operational finance skills, you’ll be confident in providing high-quality financial insight and analysis to support decision-making. Job Purpose

• Lead training and development for all colleagues (Staff and Volunteers) and guide people through the Adviser Learning Programme (ALP)
• Drive our recruitment and retention strategy for volunteers
• Develop and deliver our Training and Development Plan

This pivotal role will be responsible for the selection, training and deployment of our volunteers across all service areas. A key focus will be to facilitate effective training pathways for paid staff and volunteers. You will be required to design and deliver group training sessions, and monitor trainee progress and development through structured training programmes.
