Independent Living Advisor - Direct Payments

The Organisation

Action on Disability (AoD), founded in 1979, is one of London’s leading Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations. As we believe in the social model of Disability, our values and principles embrace inclusive and accessible ways of working both internally and in all our activities, seek the participation and contribution of our members, and encourage and respect diversity.

The organisation is a medium sized charity with a Board of Trustees (at least 75% is Disabled trustees), 20 staff and a strong ad hoc staff and volunteer base including many with direct experience of Disability - all of whom are passionate about removing the barriers that Disabled people face.

AoD provides five key services. These are: Youth, Employment, Welfare Benefits, Independent Living and Advocacy.

AoD’s Independent Living Service
The Independent Living Service (Direct Payments) is a new service that will provide support to Direct Payment users within the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The service will enable Disabled people to have genuine choice and control over the way in which they lead their lives. The post-holder will be working alongside disabled people to enable them to have more choice and control over their care and support needs.

The Role

In this role you will be providing essential information, advice and support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. You will work with Disabled clients to empower them to take control of the support they need by using Direct Payments, employing their own staff and accessing activities or services. You will ensure that individuals have the right information to make informed choices and will help them to set up and manage their chosen support.

You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience of budgeting and recruitment are essential for this role.

Experience of working in social care is not essential as training will be provided, however a “can-do” attitude, a commitment to a person-centred approach and a willingness to learn is a must. Being part of a small team, there is a lot of opportunity for you to develop and learn new skills.

The work is varied and calls upon a wide range of skills, and there is huge job satisfaction in supporting people to achieve greater wellbeing and independence.

About the Role

Grant-making is central to GiveOut’s mission of growing giving to support LGBTQI human rights activism globally. As Senior Grant-Making Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our grant-making programme, ensuring we effectively channel resources to LGBTQI activist organisations worldwide.

You'll be responsible for the full employee lifecycle—from recruitment to onboarding to L&D. Through team collaboration, you’ll focus on strategic workforce planning and creating a robust L&D programme.

• Develop and deliver a forward-looking Learning & Development strategy
• Drive workforce and succession planning
• Manage our Learning Management System (Litmos)
• Support EDI and wellbeing initiatives
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and induction processes

Essential criteria:

• CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent) in Learning and Development or HR
• Strong experience in talent management and training delivery
• Excellent project management and communication skills
• Proficiency with people systems and data analysis
• A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset

Major Gifts Manager

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 130 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way. 

This role sits within our Social Impact Group and you will work closely with Senior Major Gifts Manager, AD of Philanthropy (Major Gifts), Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships, Major Appeal Programme Director, Executive Director Social Impact and senior leaders at all levels to identify and access new and existing networks of wealth, opportunity and influence.

Our step-change in impact with children will be achieved by a step-change in our philanthropy & partnerships: as a Major Gifts Manager, you'll play a crucial role in this transformation through development and personal leadership of a portfolio of philanthropists and donors that contribute major gifts (over 5 figures+) and support

In order to be successful in this role, you must have: 

-Strong knowledge and successful track record delivering significant income through personal approaches, liaising with philanthropists and personally securing and building senior volunteer networks

-Expert knowledge of major donor methodology with experience of developing powerful and impactful cases for support, giving proposals and asks of major donors.

-Proven experience of personally meeting income targets and delivering against stewardship and repeat giving objectives, activities, implementation, and risk mitigation plans

-Knowledge of legal, regulatory and ethical environment of major gift fundraising

This role can be based in any of our UK locations; Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, or Warrington. You will be required to attend the office for a minimum of 2 days per week with the option to work remotely for the remaining 3 days.
