The Rochester Bridge Trust is a historic and independent charity that has provided and maintained free-to-use crossings over the River Medway since 1399. Today, it continues this legacy with a net-zero approach and a strong charitable programme supporting engineering education, heritage, and the environment.
Salary: £38,000 per annum, plus great benefits.
Contract: Full, time, permanent. 4-day working week Monday- Thursday, (office closed on Fridays)
Location: Rochester, Kent. On site 4 days a week, with some flexibility to WFH in the future.
As Grants & Outreach Manager, you will play a key role in delivering and developing the Trust’s charitable work. This includes managing outreach and grant-funded projects, leading stakeholder engagement, and delivering the Trust’s Scholarship and Alumni programmes. You’ll also support internal teams with project management and evaluation to ensure real impact.
Key requirements:
- Strong project management experience (qualification such as PRINCE2 or PMP desirable).
- Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, from schools to sector leaders.
- Experience in grants management and programme evaluation.
- Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
- Skilled in budget management and IT (especially MS Office).
- Full UK driving licence required.

Role Description
Working with other staff and volunteers, you will oversee the visitor experience to ensure a consistently high standard, delivering a wide-ranging programme of activities that will also attract a new and diverse audience to the Cathedral whilst maximising visitor donations and income.
Key Responsibilities
- Commitment to the Cathedral’s values and inclusive culture and to demonstrate them through professional behaviour working with clergy, staff and volunteers
- Management and oversight of visitor experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience, whether they come to the Cathedral as a sightseer, pilgrim, worshipper, or event attendee
- Ensure safe recruitment, induction, training and management of paid Welcome Assistants to offer a consistently high standard of welcome and increase donated income
- Liaise with all volunteer groups involved in the visitor experience, including Welcome Stewards, Chaplains, Tower Tour Guides, Tour Guides, LEGO model builders to ensure consistency of welcome

Probationary and notice period

Job Purpose
This role sits within our crisis alternative service, Safe Space, which is a core and out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. Our aim of the service is to keep individuals well in the community and prevent readmission into hospital. The service operates 365 days a year from 14:00-22:00pm across all of our boroughs.
Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone or virtual on a one-to-one basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis or preventing crisis.
The objectives of the service include:
- To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health and social crisis in HFEH.
- To proactively work with keeping people well in the community to reduce re-admitters into hospitals by working with WL NHS teams (e.g. discharge, LPS, CATT, MINT and SPA)
- To provide a true alternative to A&E via a non-clinical drop-in service to support clients
- To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation and crisis recovery planning.
