About Women in Prison

Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.

Job Purpose:

The Family Advocate will provide trauma-informed specialist support to women in the community and in prison who are at risk of losing custody of their children/have already experienced child removal. This role will also upskill colleagues, and work with Children’s Social Care teams to improve the response to women impacted by the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibility Areas 

1.      Provide high-quality, trauma-responsive support to women in contact with the criminal justice system, who are at risk of experiencing/have experienced child removal. 

2.      Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, including upskilling through information and training sessions on Children’s Social Care and family court processes, and increase Children's Social Care teams' knowledge and understanding on women in the criminal justice system.   

3.      Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders, such as Children’s Social Care, probation, prison, to ensure a collaborative approach to women’s needs. 

4.      Monitor case management systems to ensure accurate and timely data recording, aligning with contract KPIs and WIP policies.

About the Role

As Service Manager you will oversee a group of supported accommodation services across Lambeth, Twickenham and Greenwich. The service supports young people aged 16 to 25, including those at risk of homelessness and unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people.

You will manage five properties and lead a team of Progression Coaches, Night Progression Coaches, a Senior Coach, a Floating Support Worker, an Apprentice and volunteers. The Miscarriage of Justice Support Service is a very unique service providing a broad range of support and advice to people whose criminal convictions are quashed by the Court of Appeal. The majority of people have been in prison for many years and need extensive help and support to begin to rebuild their lives based on their own individual needs.

One of our caseworkers is going on a sabbatical, which this role will cover, including 2 weeks of handover at the start, and 1 week at the end.

The role will support individuals in a broad range of areas including welfare benefits, housing, navigating access to GPs, mental health support, community services, and applying for grants or essentials post-release (e.g. white goods, clothing).

The role involves one-to-one contact in a way that best meets the person – for this role it will typically be by telephone and email, but it can also be in person. Clients live across England and Wales.

You will come with experience of providing advice and practical support to people with varied needs. You will have experience of working with a trauma-informed approach and have excellent people skills to build and maintain trusting relationships.

About the role

This role will focus on our Books Together project. We are looking for someone to deliver interactive book sharing workshops for parents and their children aged 2 to 5.

This role would suit someone with experience in working with young children and families in educational or community settings, strong communication and group facilitation skills and knowledge of early childhood development and the importance of early literacy. We are looking for someone warm, approachable, and sensitive to the diverse needs of families.

You will need to feel confident encouraging parent-child interaction through guided activities and discussions and creating a positive, supportive environment that empowers parents to engage in reading at home. You will also need to manage workshop logistics, including setup, materials, and attendance tracking as well as occasional team meetings to review the success of the sessions.

Hours: 0.4 or 0.6FTE (14/21 hours per week respectively)

About the role

Medact is hiring for the new role of Fundraising Manager: Trusts & Grants to secure grant funds for the organisation over a critical one-year period. The new Fundraising Manager will be responsible for completing applications already in the pipeline, and then setting out a plan to apply for as many successful grants as possible in the period and delivering it.

The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team and our programme staff, to identify, develop and write grant proposals to relevant funders, for both restricted and unrestricted income streams. 

About you

This is a skilled role but you don’t need to have had a job in an NGO before or be a professional campaigner to be right for it. You might have successfully fundraised for a local community organisation or a grassroots campaign on a social justice or health issue that you care about. 

You’ll have strong skills in developing and writing applications, with a strong understanding of the funding landscape and potential relevant grantmakers. You need to be a great communicator, able to translate the work of an organisation into language tailored for different funding bodies. You’ll also be a strong team player, able to work with relevant staff members to develop winning applications that fit properly within our existing strategy and areas of work.

About the role:

We are seeking someone pragmatic, able to manage upwards and who is happy to work on their own initiative as part of a remote team. A willingness to support colleagues, think creatively, to question and to challenge will be essential. This role involves planning, executing and overseeing one or more projects and a PMO while effectively communicating and managing stakeholder expectations.

This new role will lead the establishment of a re-designed Project Management Office (PMO) to provide proportionate and strategic support, aligned to delivery approaches of NFCC. By adopting a tiered, integrated and flexible approach NFCC can enhance decision-making and support project delivery and assurance across the organisation.

As an established PMO Manager, you will bring your experience in setting up PMOs and use your knowledge of a diverse range of project management methodologies. You will be enthusiastic about making a difference and are able to bring people with you as you drive change. You will be an excellent communicator, with experience of facilitation. Influencing skills and proven experience in managing change are essential.

This role includes up to 50% of time spent managing organisation-wide priority projects. You will be responsible for managing existing projects to completion and initiating and managing to completion new projects if required. You must ensure projects are delivered to time, within budget and to the required quality criteria.
