Finance Manager

An opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Finance Manager to provide expert support in leading the financial and management accounting functions at NEF (the New Economics Foundation). You will oversee core financial operations for both NEF and NEF Consulting, confidently stepping in to cover the Head of Finance’s responsibilities when necessary. 

Working alongside the Head of Finance you will be instrumental in helping to shape NEF’s finance department. You’ll also contribute to developing systems that meet the needs of a complex organisation - this challenging and varied role is central to ensuring that NEF continues to make its mission a reality. 

The ideal candidate will hold an accountancy qualification (or be qualified by experience) with at least one year's post qualification experience of managing both the financial and management accounting functions. Experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation would be beneficial but is not essential. The ability to communicate effectively, in both written and spoken English, and at all levels of the organisation is essential. Just as important is an eye for detail, curiosity, flexibility and excellent organisation.

The Role:

The CEO will be responsible for leading the strategic growth, fundraising, and external engagement of More Than a Roof. This role will focus on developing and communicating the charity’s mission, building strong partnerships, and securing funding to expand our impact across the UK.

The CEO will act as the external face of More Than a Roof, engaging supporters, funders, and strategic stakeholders to raise awareness and increase income. While the charity exists to support individuals & families experiencing homelessness, delivery of frontline services and direct engagement with residents is undertaken by our partner organisations, such as The Housing Network. Key Responsibilities:

• Work alongside colleagues at The Housing Network to support individuals and families (including individuals over 18’s, families, and prison leavers) as they move into temporary accommodation.
• Facilitate connections for beneficiaries within the local community in Leicester, helping them build support networks.
• Signpost beneficiaries to relevant external support agencies and services to address their diverse needs (e.g., health & wellbeing, training & life skills, employment, financial matters).
• Collaborate closely with on-the-ground partners, such as Community Shop in Leicester, to ensure integrated support.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager is responsible for leading and developing RABI’s philanthropy and partnerships donor base, focusing on building and nurturing relationships with major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners as well as legacy and in-memory supporters (larger funders).

This plays a pivotal role in shaping RABI’s fundraising strategy, identifying major funding opportunities and creating impactful engagement strategies to secure long-term financial support for the charity’s sustainability.

Relationship building is key to this position, communicating effectively with our donors by enhancing and strengthening relations through cultivation tactics and deepening relationships to ensure robust support from these influential stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive Philanthropy and Partnerships (P&P) fundraising strategy to drive RABI’s fundraising activities and support long-term sustainability. This includes overseeing the cultivation and stewardship of major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners as well as legacy and in-memory supporters (larger funders).
• Report on income and expenditure targets, ensuring targets are met and assisting with budget setting.
• Cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with larger funders, ensuring strong and sustained engagement.
• Develop tailored proposals and partnership packages aligned with potential partners’ priorities and interests.
• Manage, identify and build relationships with key corporate funders, negotiate and manage agreements, ensuring clear communication of expected deliverables.
• Oversee and manage all trust and foundation opportunities, identifying potential funders whilst monitoring and reporting on deliverables and outcomes ensuring timely delivery of all requirements, ensuring compliance with regulations.

• Manage, track and utilise CRM systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics) to maintain up-to-date donor data, track progress and provide concise and timely reports on fundraising activities and income and expenditure reports. Analyse donor trends and engagement metrics to optimise fundraising strategies.
• Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including GDPR the CIOF Code of Fundraising Practice and RABI’s internal policies. Make certain the charity’s best practices are upheld in all donor interactions and fundraising activities.
• Responsibility for line management, providing guidance, support and performance feedback to ensure the development and success of team members.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including fundraising, communications, service delivery, business development and external affairs to identify project funding opportunities, share donor insights and collaborate and support the development of other fundraising initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

• Demonstrable experience in a senior fundraising role, with a proven track record in securing major funds from larger funders.
• Exceptional major donor management skills, with experience in donor stewardship, partnership development and engagement strategies that build long-term relationships.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of targeting, segmentation and response analysis.Persuasive written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling applications, proposals and donor communications. The post-holder will be responsible for implementing the Society’s broader communications strategy, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to develop communications outputs that further the Society’s mission and ensure communications content is current, coherent and comprehensive.

The Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering dynamic digital content to inform, engage, and motivate diverse audiences, helping to raise awareness of the Geological Society’s work. The role will ensure a consistent voice across social media, websites, and email communications to enhance visibility, strengthen member and stakeholder engagement.

Social Media

• Act as Social Media Manager – leading on oversight of the Society’s social media accounts (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn) – with responsibility for implementing our social media strategy in line with the Society’s wider
• communications strategy.
• Leading on daily activity across social media platforms, identifying and proactively pursuing opportunities for storytelling and engagement.
• Managing quality and consistency of content created by the Society’s wider social media contributors' group.
• Ensure that the Society’s social media accounts confirm to visual branding and in-house style and train other users and contributors as required.

Website

• Support with the maintenance and development of our websites including sourcing, managing and formatting images, copy, videos, resources and links.
• Supporting stakeholders with website design and content management, prioritising UX and website performance.

Newsletters

• Manage contributions and edit material for the Society’s email newsletters.
• Track and report on newsletter performance

Campaigns and content creation

• Creation of engaging, accessible, innovative and inclusive digital content to promote The Geological Society activity such as social media campaigns, news posts, articles, case studies, infographics, images, videos and blogs.
• Filming, photographing, creating, and scheduling organic and paid digital media content to increase our reach and build influence on digital platforms.
• Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to communicate impactful, person-centred stories from across the geoscience community, including supporting the wider Society staff team and stakeholders with a variety of digital content projects.
• Source and manage images and produce graphics in accordance with Society branding and relevant permissions requirements for use across digital media.

General

• Staying up to date with the latest trends, innovations and practices in digital communications and website management.
• Utilise analytics to assess the effectiveness of digital communications efforts, making data-driven improvements, and horizon scanning for emerging digital innovations to enhance engagement.
• Maintaining The Geological Society's brand identity across our digital channels.

What we’re looking for …

Essential

• Proven experience of working with digital communications channels, including managing and sourcing of content for social media.
• Excellent time management and ability to work to deadlines, prioritising work accordingly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with high levels of attention to detail.
• Experience creating graphics, editing images, and with planning, delivering and tracking the impact of digital campaigns.

Desirable

• Geoscience background or experience working in science communication.
• Experience using analytics platforms to understand digital content performance e.g. GA4, Hotjar, Fathom, Hootsuite.
• Ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders of varying digital experience.
• A good understanding of copyright and permissions, specifically in relation to visual or digital media.
• Experience with Meta Business, Umbraco, Adestra, or Adobe Creative Suite or Affinity.
• Experience working with brand guidelines.

BookTrust, the charity that champions the power of reading, is seeking a Head of Fundraising in a new senior role to oversee the strategic development and management of their voluntary income, to help them deliver their goals to shape a national reading culture.

BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, reaching over 1.3 million children and families across England, Wales and Northern Ireland each year and delivering evidence-informed programmes that make a measurable difference to children’s reading behaviours. Their work is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the chance to enjoy reading and all the lifelong benefits it brings. In recent years, the charity’s work has focused on helping children from low-income and vulnerable family backgrounds to become regular readers.

The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for stewarding an existing portfolio of major statutory and voluntary funders, and managing BookTrust’s high value and individual giving portfolio. This includes trusts and foundations, statutory funders and corporate partners from the publishing sector and beyond, from Waterstones to Build-A-Bear. The post-holder will build on significant fundraising growth over the last three years, and will work to further grow and diversify fundraising income to meet the goals of the charity’s recently launched 2025-2030 strategic plan.

The successful candidate will be engaging, experienced and have a proven record across high value fundraising (with a preference for major donor/philanthropy, trusts and corporate partnerships), as well as having a good knowledge of Individual Giving.

They will have experience of operating at a senior leader level with a charity, with responsibility for liaising with, and reporting to, the SLT and the Board, and will be able to show demonstrable success in achieving personal and team income targets.  Commercially and politically astute, candidates will also be emotionally intelligent and natural collaborators, willing to work with others on bringing income generation ideas to life in an organisation with a diverse funding model including mixed models of trading and philanthropy.
