Responsibilities of our Retail Development Manager:
As Retail Development Manager you will assume responsibility for the project design and delivery of a focused programme of operational excellence in our Retail estate, developing improvements reflective of Charity Retail sector best practice, including but not limited to:
-a sector leading Shop Operations Manual and connected assets, policies and procedures, with operational optimisation and simplification of process as core tenets
-working with our Brand & Marketing, Property and Operations colleagues on our internal rebrand proposition, including our boutique and future large store formats

- The Retail Development Manager will play a strategic role in the Retail Leadership and Management Team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Retail and Trading operation.
About the Retail & Trading team:
- The Retail and Trading department sits within the Marketing and Income Generation Directorate and comprises a diverse shop estate of 79 shops across England, Scotland and Wales and a growing ecommerce operation.
- Our operation plays a key role in generating income and introducing audiences to Cats Protection.
What we’re looking for in our Retail Development Manager:
- Extensive experience of charity retail operations, sector best practice and benchmarking

About the position
Responsible for the strategic leadership and effective delivery of Humane World UK’s wildlife campaigns, this role is an exciting opportunity to create change at scale. The purpose of the position is to deliver Humane World UK’s wildlife campaigns including, at present, ensuring the successful passage into law of a Bill to ban imports of hunting trophies into the UK. The role will be responsible for identifying opportunities to progress wildlife protection in the UK, including for Humane World's global priority initiatives to promote humane human-wildlife co-existence, and to effectively tackle wildlife trade including for 'exotic' companion animals.

Key areas of responsibility:
- Create strategies, workplans and messaging for Humane World UK’s wildlife campaigns, including the campaign for a hunting trophy import ban, towards achievement of agreed goals;
- Commissioning and analysing research to expand and enhance Humane World UK’s understanding of welfare problems for wild animals, in order to develop informed solutions and into advocacy materials
- Work closely with Humane World UK’s public affairs staff to deliver compelling and informed advocacy to UK political stakeholders to secure improved wildlife protection, through both passage and enforcement of UK laws;
- Work in collaboration with Humane World UK’s Communications staff to educate external audiences in wildlife welfare problems, and build strong and focused public support for better treatment and legal protections for wildlife, including through working with media, celebrities and influencers as amplifiers;
- Represent Humane World UK at stakeholder groups relating to wildlife welfare and conservation;
- Ensure that fundraising colleagues are equipped with the necessary information on strategies and impact to make and report against successful funding proposals for Humane World UK’s wildlife campaigns;
- Regular, proactive internal communication and alignment with Humane World’s global goals for wild animals, and reporting on progress towards agreed targets.
About you
Our successful candidate will be a confident, articulate and positive with a proven track record of strategic leadership and management in the delivery of effective campaigns. A proactive self-starter, you will have demonstrable experience of managing and developing strong, focused and ambitious teams, and a solution-focused approach to overcoming obstacles. You will have experience of building strategic relationships with stakeholders, in both the private and public sector, in order to deliver agreed goals. About You
Do you want to help to develop and implement a ground-breaking programme to restore temperate rainforest across the west of the UK? Are you passionate about systematically collecting, analysing and communicating data to support the delivery of nature’s recovery? We are looking for an organised and collaborative monitoring officer to help us implement one of the largest nature-based solutions programmes to date. You will work with other members of the Temperate Rainforest Programme Team to develop and implement a bespoke monitoring programme to systematically capture and communicate data that will enable us to measure and demonstrate the impact of The Wildlife Trusts’ UK Temperate Rainforest Programme – on biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, local communities and the economy as well as supporting monitoring on other landscape scale initiatives.
We are looking for a technical specialist who understands and cares about the positive contribution that large scale woodland creation can make to nature’s recovery and to efforts to reduce and adapt to climate change. This role will implement and support monitoring arrangements for The Wildlife Trusts’ UK Temperate Rainforest programme and at the Wildlife Trusts’ Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. You will be organised and motivated with excellent analytical and project delivery skills, including an understanding of different ecological, social and land-management monitoring approaches, as well as an interest in evidence relating to woodlands, biodiversity and climate change adaptation. Key to this role will be familiarity with the collection, processing and storage of ecological data and the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in its analysis, sharing and communication.

The ideal candidate will be based in the Derby area, as this is where we have dedicated venue support. Please only apply to this vacancy if you are based within 10 miles of Derby, unless you are in the process of relocating! You can expect to be travelling to Nottingham, parts of the Peak District, Tamworth and Stoke-on-Trent.

Salary: £25,847.00 - £27,549.00 per annum

The Role
Each day you will travel to different venues, set up an attractive fundraising stand, and spend the day actively engaging with members of the public, spreading awareness about our conservation efforts and inspiring individuals to become lifelong members.
Don't worry if you're not a wildlife expert yet – you will be provided with comprehensive training to equip you with all the knowledge you need. Plus, you'll enjoy the added perk of a company van, with fuel and parking costs paid for.
What's even better? You'll have the flexibility to choose a contract between 3 to 5 days per week, and enjoy the stability of a set salary, rather than working on commission. With 34 days of annual leave (including bank holidays) and opportunities for sabbaticals, we value your work-life balance and well-being.

About You
What we need from you:
- A passion for conservation (no prior knowledge required);
- Resilience
- Ability to work to targets;
- A driver's licence valid for use in the UK;
- Happy to work 3 out of 4 weekends;
- Happy to travel (on average) an hour away from home each day;
- Willingness to work outdoors and independently;
- Fundraising/Sales and Customer Service experience (desirable).
Whether you're from a hospitality, customer service, sales, or volunteering background, we're more interested in your negotiating/storytelling skills and enthusiasm than your previous experience.
