This is a true business partner role; you’ll need to see the bigger picture and contribute at board level, while still being able to roll your sleeve up and strengthen day-to-day financial operations. What you’ll be getting stuck into:
• Acting as a strategic finance partner to the CEO and leadership team - your insight will shape plans, drive decisions, and keep the mission on track.
• Leading on all financial reporting, planning, forecasting, and risk management - keeping the board, Trustees, and senior leaders fully informed.
• Ensuring robust financial controls, compliance, and governance across the charity.
• Leading the charge on data and insights - including developing meaningful KPIs, social value metrics, and an annual Impact Report that tells the real story of the difference being made.
• Managing the charity’s use of Salesforce and looking at how data can be used even more effectively to support decision-making.
• Keeping a sharp eye on VAT returns, payroll, gift aid, pension schemes, and investment administration.
• Line managing and supporting a small Finance team and succession planning to keep the team thriving.
• Business partnering with Heads of Department, helping each function understand the numbers and make smart, informed choices.
What they’re looking for:
• Proven experience in a senior finance role where you’ve combined strategic leadership with a hands-on approach.
• ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA (or similar) qualified.
• Confident working with Xero (or similar accounting software) and the Microsoft 365 suite.
• Skilled at translating financial data into plain English for non-finance colleagues - making the complex simple.
• A solid understanding of financial risk management, including how cybersecurity, fraud controls, and financial risks interact.
• Experience leading audits, preparing statutory accounts, and presenting at Board or Trustee level.

Oxford Playhouse is one of the country’s leading regional theatres and the only not-for-profit mid-scale venue in Oxfordshire. The theatre is at the heart of cultural life in the city and region, with a wonderfully rich heritage of live performance, drama, dance, music and comedy. It also produces mid-scale and studio productions, including a hugely popular pantomime which plays to audiences of over 40,000 each year.
As well as being a home for inspirational performance, The Playhouse is an active charity with artistic, social and educational aims. Through its Open House programme, a dynamic and wide-ranging outreach project, The Playhouse opens access for theatregoing and creative learning opportunities for thousands of people every year. It works closely with schools across the county to support literacy, distributes 2,500 free tickets to community groups, and works with partners including Age UK to deliver inclusive programmes for older people.
The Playhouse is immensely grateful to all those who support the organisation - its core funders Arts Council England, University of Oxford, St John’s College Oxford, and Oxford City Council - as well as many charitable trusts, foundations, businesses, individuals and audience members. Civitas Recruitment are delighted to be working with a forthcoming non-profit organisation with a strategic focus on protecting and advancing the rights of Muslims across the UK. An exciting opportunity exists for a Part-Time Director to join the team. As Part-Time Director, you will lead the organisations’ vision and direction across all areas, overseeing strategic litigation that sets important legal precedents; driving research and policy initiatives that influence debate and decision-making ensuring the delivery of accessible advice and guidance to those navigating legal or civic challenges. This is a part-time, permanent role, home based within the UK with meetings and in person events in London.
Who are we looking for?
Ideal candidates will possess senior leadership experience in a legal, policy or advocacy organisation with a track record of strategic delivery and managing external partnerships. A strong understanding of UK legal and political issues affecting Muslim communities, including civil liberties, counter-terrorism and discrimination. You will be a confident communicator with experience representing organisations publicly and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with fundraising, donor engagement and knowledge of non-profit operations or governance would be an advantage however it is not essential for the role.
