About the role

This is a hands-on role for an experienced organiser who will lead key aspects of our community organising practice. You'll design and deliver training workshops, coach emerging organisers, and build meaningful relationships with both partner organisations and individual members to expand our movement.

Working with campaign teams across the UK, you'll ensure organising principles are woven throughout our programmes whilst supporting communities to build power, win campaigns, and develop new leaders. You'll create resources and content to scale our impact, evaluate our training effectiveness, and strengthen Act Build Change's contribution to the organising field.

This role requires regular travel and a passion for grassroots work, offering the opportunity to shape how we build collective power for change.

About us

Act Build Change is a transformative organising school that makes community organising and collective care methods accessible to everyone who wants to end injustice.

Since 2019, we've supported over 150 collectives and organisations across the UK and Ireland, working with those with disabilities, migrants and refugees, young people, carers, working class communities, LGBTQ+ collectives, those living in poverty and the intersections across those identities.

Our work includes delivering training and resources, supporting communities to navigate difference and change, and providing coaching for organisers and movement leaders.

Key responsibilities

Training and development

• Develop Act Build Change's transformative organising pedagogy and lead internal staff training to ensure team-wide fluency in our curriculum and approach.

• Design and deliver engaging organising training both online and in-person, adapting our curriculum for diverse audiences and needs.

• Provide on-the-ground shadowing and coaching to develop the skills of organisers and movement leaders.

Community building and partnerships

• Build strategic relationships across the organising field with practitioners, partners, and the broader social justice ecosystem.

• Lead key cohort projects, ensuring high-quality delivery and effective ground-level action.

• Lead event planning and facilitation for community-facing programmes, workshops, and strategy gatherings whilst expanding our membership base.

Team leadership

• Line manage programme staff, supporting their wellbeing, development, and performance through regular supervision and feedback.

• Foster a workplace culture rooted in collective care, accountability, and anti-oppression practices.

• Collaborate with team members to improve internal systems, document learning, and refine training practices.

Fundraising and sustainability

• Raise at least £60,000 through partner projects, funding bids, and membership dues to ensure financial sustainability.

• Contribute to strategic planning, evaluation, and organisational learning to guide Act Build Change's future development.

• Represent Act Build Change in networks and at events within the broader social justice ecosystem.

• You are willing to work outside regular hours, including some evenings and weekends, with occasional overnight stays across the UK (any travel time and/or overtime worked is recuperated through TOIL).

What we offer

Salary and benefits

• £45,000-£51,500 salary, depending on experience.

Our Commercial Team 

We have a small commercial team with big ambitions for the sector.

Currently, we hold a single commercial contract worth around £3m per year delivered through 12 libraries. Our aim is to reach a point where we have a menu of commercial contracts that all of our 176 member library services can choose to benefit from according to the skills and assets of their service, their focus and strategy and of course the needs of their communities.

In the current funding climate for local authorities and local government services, these contracts are not just about the income and the services they can provide but about demonstrating nationally the power of the library sector, and how national services can be delivered locally through library services and the communities they serve.

Our approach is to identify and secure contracts procured by national government – either directly or with partners to extend the libraries’ capabilities – with an eye to local delivery through the library services. This allows us to centrally hold and manage the risk of the national contract, leaving the library services to deliver themselves.

We see libraries as a solution to many of society’s challenges and this is one route we use to bring the libraries into that solution.  

This area is part of our long term strategy – we are seeking to build the commercial team with this role and while it is initially a 12-month contract, our hope is that with the role in place we can generate the income to sustain and build on it.

About the role

Sustrans’ Strategy, Impact and Evidence team is a leading centre of excellence in active travel research, monitoring and evaluation and we are recruiting now. As an Evidence Officer, you will work on a range of behaviour change and infrastructure projects, providing monitoring, evaluation, and analytical support. The Strategy, Impact and Evidence teamplays an important part in supporting our vision by providing robust evidence on sustainable and active travel that ultimately influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour across the UK.

Focusing on monitoring and evaluating the impact of infrastructure and behaviour change programmes, you will work on a range of projects around the UK and be involved in the planning, delivery, analysis and reporting of our monitoring and evaluation work.

About the role

• Financial Management and Bookkeeping

• Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online.
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of all income and expenditure, including reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, petty cash, and restricted funds.
• Process sales invoices, accounts receivable, and income from multiple platforms (Stripe, GoCardless, PayPal, Fundraise Up, etc.).
• Manage accounts payable including invoice approval workflows, payment runs, and supplier records.

• Produce and circulate weekly budget holder reports, resolving any variances or queries.
• Support the Director of Finance and Operations with quarterly management accounts, budget monitoring, and preparation for year-end processes and audits.
• Assist with reconciliation of the balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, including prepayments, accruals, and deferred income.

• Gift Aid and Compliance

• Submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC and ensure accurate record-keeping in line with charity policy.
• Maintain and update restricted income records and allocation files, ensuring compliance with donor restrictions.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

• Team Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the main finance contact across departments, supporting budget holders with financial queries.
• Provide finance induction and support to new starters.
• Support the Fundraising and Family Support teams on event finance (cash handling, floats, expense processing, reconciliation).
• Confidently communicate with internal and external stakeholders including budget holders, suppliers, and auditors.

• Champion effective financial controls, help embed a culture of strong financial management, and continuously improve finance systems and processes.
• Ensure secure and well-organised storage of financial records, in line with retention policies.
• Support and supervise the Finance Assistant, including line management, development, and training as needed.

About the role

As a policy fellow, you will be a key member of our dynamic policy team, contributing to a wide range of projects that influence the national health and care policy in England. Your primary Focus will be on NHS reform, exploring how the organisation of the NHS, regulation, payment systems, and other policy leaders can drive change, improve services, and reduce inequalities in health. Projects include the development of integrated care systems and tracking broader systems change in the NHS.

• Managing the steady stream of legacy case work, including pecuniary, specific, life interest, and residuary legacies.
• Working with lay executors, solicitors, co-beneficiaries and family members/friends to sensitively and efficiently administer legacy and in memory gifts.

About you

We think this role will inspire someone keen to build on and develop their legacy administration skills, marketing skills and fundraising experience as part of a positive, dedicated and supportive team.  

We are looking for candidates with demonstrable experience in a charity legacy or estate administration role who can balance the two sides to this role. The legal administration of legacy income requires excellent attention to detail, but the legacy marketing responsibilities also require project management and creative skills to manage activity that can build on St Mungo’s portfolio of legacy supporters.

• You will be proactive and empathetic with a flexible approach and be comfortable managing your own time and projects.
• You will be comfortable using IT software, databases and systems such as Raiser’s Edge NXT.
• Previous experience of Legacy marketing experience within a charity, and a certificate of Charity Legacy Administration are beneficial but not essential.
