Director of Development (Part time)

£70K FTE, 2 year fixed-term contract, 1 day per week 

We are looking for a senior philanthropy professional with a strong interest in music and a proven track record in growing and building high level funding relationships, to work part time to build and engage a committed network of major individual donors to fund the long-term sustainability of La Nuova Musica (LNM) and fulfilment of its creative vision.

About La Nuova Musica

La Nuova Musica is an early music ensemble led by its founder and Artistic Director, David Bates, and known for spirited performances that receive widespread acclaim from audiences and five-star reviews from the press.

LNM appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the Fields, the London Handel Festival as well as festivals around the UK. They made their BBC Proms debut in 2022 with a performance of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas described as “a superbly evocative night” in The Times and “a musical tour de force” in Opera Today. In 2024 they appeared for the first time at the Grange Festival in a series of performances of Monteverdi’s opera, The Coronation of Poppea, hailed by Opera Today as “truly a five-star production, and easily one of the best interpretations of Monteverdi or a Baroque opera I have seen.'

LNM has also appeared in concert halls and festivals across Europe including the Handel Festival Halle, La Seine Musicale Paris, the Göttingen International Handel Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, and the Steffani Festival in Hanover.

Their reputation is enhanced by a series of award-winning recordings for Pentatone and Harmonia Mundi. Their latest recording of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas was selected as one of two opera recordings for the prestigious Abbiata award in Italy, alongside a recording of Katya Kabanova conducted by Simon Rattle with the LSO.  It was one of Gramophone’s recordings of the year and BBC R3’s CD Review chose it as their Recording of the Week. “the way it zings off the page bristling with dramatic life and energy from the first bars, and with a range of voices and imaginative instrumental accompaniment, fills it with incident and colour”.BBC Radio 3.

An earlier release, Handel’s Unsung Heroes, was selected by BBC Music Magazine as their Recording of the Month and awarded 5 stars as “a stunning collection of Handel opera numbers. For originality, risk-taking and erudition, it towers above its predecessors. The project is a heroic achievement for all involved.” 

La Nuova Musica’s strategic goals

We are bursting with ideas and feel we have so much more that we want to achieve. We perform regularly at the Wigmore Hall in London and are in the process of establishing a presence in Salisbury (David Bates’ hometown) and in Oxford, where we are working with an excellent chamber choir of young amateur singers, Schola Cantorum.  By giving the same concert in all these cities, we make best use of our artistic and financial resources at the same time as broadening our reach.

We also aim to deliver new strands of activity. One is relaxed concerts for anyone who needs an informal setting to enjoy our performances. The other offers high quality professional experience to singers and players from the modern instrument world in understanding baroque and early classical music. This is important for several reasons, not least to build and strengthen the UK pool of musicians for the future to preserve this repertoire. 

We receive no public funding and are only able to continue thanks to the support of generous individuals who love what we do and want us to do more. As is the case in our sector, ticket sales do not cover the cost of performances. We also need to pay our administrative team for any activity to take place at all. We currently operate thanks to a small but highly experienced and committed team who work remotely, at significantly reduced rates, because of their belief in David Bates and La Nuova Musica. To achieve our vision, we need to secure ongoing funding for core running costs (approximately £120k per year) as well as additional funding for specific artistic projects and other activity (approximately £120k per year, though this will vary from year to year).

Thanks to the fantastic support of generous individuals, LNM can engage with some ambitious projects such as Handel’s Giustino, our first co-production with the Royal Ballet and Opera which takes place in October 2025. We have successfully raised the money required for this and can now put in place some important and ambitious projects for the next three years. 

These include:

·Promoting two concerts each year in St Martin in the Fields, which entails risk on a larger scale than the Wigmore Hall where we are engaged (paid) to perform. (£15k p.a.)

·Developing further our work in Salisbury with two annual concerts which feed off our regular series in the Wigmore Hall and St Martin in the Fields. (£12k p.a.)

·Developing our relationships in Oxford along the lines of Salisbury (see above) (12k p.a.) 

·Developing a relaxed concert strand where performances are specially prepared and delivered to suit anyone who needs an informal setting to enjoy our performances.  (10k per run of events)

·Grow existing strands of work which provide experience for amateur singers, young professional singers and players in informed baroque and early classical performances. (15k per run of events)

·Recording some of our best work to act as a calling card with promoters and the public. (£40- 50k per recording)

·Build on our existing work to make and keep early music relevant, thus protecting its cultural heritage, by commissioning new work for the ensemble which combines the sounds and techniques of early music with that of living composers. (£15-20k per commission)

The Role

Role Dimensions

·To deliver excellence in supporter stewardship, building commitment and increasing funding and support from current LNM major individual supporters

·To research and lead a prospect pipeline for new five and six figure multi-year commitments

·To design and execute special high-level events for prospect/donor cultivation and development

·To develop and write compelling propositions for key trusts and foundations

·To ensure all fundraising is conducted as per the Codes of Fundraising Practice and other regulatory guidelines

Essential Experience and Skills

oProven delivery performance at a significant giving level, both individually and leading others to achieve (including Trustees and senior leadership)

oAbility to build long term HNW relationships, alongside several personal skills including being persuasive, receptive, inquisitive, dynamic, politically savvy and inspirational

oProven experience of building and leading excellent donor stewardship programmes at a senior level, including high level implementation of special events, and proposition development for trust and foundations

oUnderstanding and knowledge of key fundraising regulations with experience of implementing process and systems required to deliver best practice.

Reporting Structures 

The Director of Development is a member of the senior management team and will report to the CEO John Summers, whilst working closely with the Artistic Director, David Bates, and Finance Director, Val Hawkin.

The entire team work remotely and meet up on-line and in person when required.

The Programme Manager role

We are a ‘small but mighty’ charity with one big ambition: to stop leukaemia devastating lives. Over the next 10 years we want to help save and improve the lives of more people with leukaemia through finding and funding life-changing research and campaigning for change.

Despite progress in recent decades, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer every 16 minutes and survival rates are among some of the worst of any cancer.  And the physical and psychological impact can be lifelong. 

Our current 5 year strategy outlines our plan to increase our investment into ground-breaking world class research and policy development focused on improving access to kinder, more effective diagnosis, treatment and care for leukaemia and other blood cancers. We are seeking an experienced, driven and passionate Head of Public Fundraising to lead the mass fundraising team to achieve sustainable income growth over the coming years. We are looking for someone with energy and ambition, who can demonstrate strategic leadership to maximise fundraising opportunities across Community, Challenge Events, Regular Giving, Legacy and In Memory audiences, to grow our supporter networks and optimise supporter engagement and experience. Leukaemia UK and You 

We have recently invested in growing our fundraising team so that we can fund more life-changing research to increase our understanding of leukemia as a disease, and accelerate the development of kinder, more effective treatments. This includes investment to grow the public fundraising team, develop new fundraising products, recruit new supporters, and increase legacy giving through targeted campaigns. 

We are also in the process of developing our new 5-year fundraising strategy, so you will be instrumental in creating an ambitious new plan to develop a diverse and sustainable mass fundraising portfolio, covering the key areas of donor acquisition, retention, and growth, with a focus on maximising our Challenge and Community events portfolio, and increasing Legacy, In Memory and Regular giving.  You will be responsible for developing and delivering a portfolio of products to grow voluntary income, whilst leading a newly expanded and ambitious team. And you will help shape our data strategy, working with the Head of Digital and other colleagues across the organisation to develop our digital fundraising strategy; embed usage of our CRM and ensure GDPR compliance. 

You will be results-driven with an appetite to innovate and drive continuous improvement, leading to increased conversions, deepened relationships, and long-term support.

Requirements - Skills and Experience

• Demonstrable experience of strategic leadership and oversight of a mass fundraising product portfolio.
• Proven experience of managing an engaging Community and Challenge Events fundraising portfolio.
• Proven experience of driving Legacy and In Memory giving to create a robust long-term pipeline. Experience of successfully developing and implementing legacy marketing strategies.
• Proven experience of applying the principles and techniques of Individual Giving / Direct Marketing within a multichannel, multi-discipline environment to deliver significant returns and supporter satisfaction, especially through supporter recruitment channels. 
• Experience of fully integrating a CRM database as a tool in the day-to-day work and running of a charity. 
• Demonstrable experience of managing a high performing team, focussing on creating a culture where people thrive as individuals and can be their best selves.
• Experience of managing multi-channel media campaigns by utilising print and digital channels including social media and email.
• Good experience of building effective relationships with internal and external partners, including creative freelancers, media and direct marketing agencies.
• Experience of working with, negotiating with, and managing outputs of external agencies and internal departments, including contractual obligations.
• Strong project-management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, creative development, and supplier relationships for fundraising direct marketing campaigns.
• Experience of setting and managing annual budgets, monitoring, and reconciling results and financial performance in income and expenditure. Providing associated narratives and monthly reforecasts.
• Proven experience of driving effective stewardship programmes to maximising supporter experience.

Requirements - Knowledge

• Excellent specialist knowledge of the principals and methods of Public Fundraising, including Challenge Events, Community, Legacy, In Memory and Individual Giving.
• Understanding of the effective development and use of supporter contact strategies, turning analysis and insight into high performance activity.
• Up-to-date knowledge of current digital fundraising trends, including social media marketing.
• High Level knowledge of Salesforce CRM databases and how best to utilise to steward supporters.
• Knowledge and experience of marketing processes and techniques across varied channels.
• High Level knowledge of legacy administration. 
• High Level knowledge and understanding of charity law in relation to legacy fundraising, GDPR, PECR, data protection and other relevant fundraising regulation.

• Hours: Full time hours are 37.5 Monday to Friday
• Location: We are very flexible! Our hybrid working policy is a minimum of two days per month in our London office unless it’s a role requirement to be in more frequently. Typically, we would expect the role holder to be in the office once a week, and certain roles within the team have this as a minimum requirement.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Capital Project Manager to play a pivotal role in the transformation and development of our school estate. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated estates team and drive the delivery of our ambitious three-year strategic priorities, ensuring exceptional service and outcomes for our schools.

Reporting  to the Head of Estates and Projects, you will lead the planning, procurement, and execution of capital developments across our estate. Your portfolio will include the delivery of new school buildings, sustainability initiatives, and projects that enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Your responsibilities will include

• Project management of the priority, delivery, and budgets of the School Condition Allocation (SCA) projects from inception to end of defects.
• Project management and supporting the management of the condition and maintenance of the school estate, including the asset management processes
• Project management of the capital elements of academy conversion projects
• Planning, implementation, procurement, and delivery of a high-quality service in relation to all estate and projects work
• Managing and monitoring external technical advisors, and third party suppliers and consultants employed directly by Harris Federation
• Managing H&health and safety through the lifecycle of all projects
• Managing the consultations, admissions, branding, marketing, FF&E and uniform of all new schools
• Providing professional services to the individual schools and ensuring the Federation complies with relevant property legislation, regulations and guidance
• Assisting with the development of policies and procedures concerning the Harris Federation estate
• Assisting with the framework for all estates related statutory elements, including oversight of the implementation and reporting of audits

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Qualifications to degree level, or equivalent experience in a project management environment
• Evidence of continued professional development
• Project management experience within Education, Not for Profit or Public Sector industries/organisations
• Experience of coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
• Demonstrable successful delivery of project outputs to required time, quality and cost
• The ability to interpret and present complex information to inform robust recommendations for evidence-based practice and decision-making
• Proven and well-developed interpersonal skills, including excellent written and spoken communication

About you

You have a  passion for nature conservation and want to see more scaled up and urgent global action for plants and fungi. You will have some level of botanical knowledge and experience in the global conservation or environment sector, with the ability to work cross-culturally and effectively engage with key stakeholder and partners. This will include working with our existing partners and those in the Global IPA network (GIPAN).
You will be able to demonstrate good programme development and management skills, have some knowledge of capacity building through e.g., training and knowledge and skill sharing, and can confidently build a programme of work that integrates locally led action into conservation activities.
This role offers the opportunity to develop and implement a programme of work that has a critical role in protecting and restoring wild plants and fungi and to promote sustainable and ethical conservation practices globally.

About the role

Plantlife pioneered the development of the Important Plant Area (IPA) criteria to identify the best sites of international significance for wild plant diversity – there are now 3,000 globally. These sites have rare and threatened plant species, exceptional botanical richness and threatened habitats. Once identified, IPAs help to target conservation actions and sustainable management of plants.
Plantlife has continued to be a proud advocate of the IPA programme and expanding the network of IPAs and increasing the delivery of management and actions at these sites are now key priorities of the Global Programme’s five-year plan. This has created an exciting opportunity to join the Global team in a new role – Global Important Plant Area Manager – to shape and oversee the strategic development of the IPA programme.
Working with the Head of Global, the postholder will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the IPA programme, building capacity (e.g., through training) and working with partners (e.g., Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) to increase the number of IPAs identified. About the role

This is a great chance to be a part of a service working alongside the Healthcare & Education Department within HMP Bronzefield to identify and support women who are identified as being neurodiverse or presenting with symptoms of neurodiversity and will be returning to the community. The Neurodiversity Lead will focus support on women with a neurodivergent need and improve their transition into the community, with ongoing community support; including collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop their support plans.

The Lead will work in a multi-disciplinary way, including attending the weekly complex case meeting and/or the Safety Intervention Meeting (SIM) as appropriate, they will act as a specialist member of the wider Advance Criminal Justice Service - London team, to facilitate a pathway for women with complex needs including mental health and neurodiversity needs. The Neurodiversity Lead will accept referrals from the Advance Criminal Justice Community team and prison services, and will create a link between prison and the community, helping women to navigate support services and to positively re-integrate into their community upon release. They will co-design a person-centred support and action plan with women accessing support, enabling to support them to address their needs and any risks. The role will combine a casework- based approach, along with a signposting and advice service for the women.

The Neurodiversity Lead will be based in the community and will provide a drop-in service (1-2 day per week) in HMP Bronzefield to support women who are close to release.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential

About You

To be successful as the Neurodiversity Lead you will need the below experience and skills:

An excellent understanding of mental health, neurodiversity needs violence against women and girls and its links to women in the criminal justice system

You will have the ability to complete trauma informed, support and action plans in collaboration with the woman; to support in addressing their multiple and individual needs and enable them to engage with services, which will result in timely and prescribed outcomes being achieved.

You will possess excellent organisational skills, excellent communication skills and be able to work in a prison environment whilst remaining calm.

The 999 Club

The 999 Club has stood on the corner of Deptford Broadway for more than 30 years, working with and supporting the local community. Our focus now is on people who are street homeless, rough sleeping or unhoused and those who have no recourse to public funds. As the 999 Club, people who use our services are our members.

The Gateway

Our day centre, The Gateway, is open five days a week and provides a welcoming, safe and friendly space where our members can spend time away from their usual situation and sort out practicalities like getting laundry done, taking a shower, charging their phone and having something to eat. It’s where our Intervention Team are often based as part of their work, empowering our members.

The Intervention Team

Working alongside the Essential Services Team and an amazing team of volunteers the Intervention Team provide triage, assessment, holistic progression planning, advocacy and support for members of the Gateway, identifying and addressing their immediate housing situation as well as wider social, health and wellbeing issues with the ultimate aim of them finding a pathway out of homelessness.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for people who like people, who care about doing a good job and want to be part of a dynamic team, providing the best service possible. We want team members with common sense, who are assertive, compassionate, have a sense of humour and a no- nonsense, positive attitude looking to make a difference in their community.

We’re looking to recruit two Intervention Workers – one for complex interventions where there are additional factors. This would best suit someone with experience whilst the brief intervention role would suit someone with transferable skills but little to no experience in the homelessness sector.

The role of the Legacy Marketing Manager will be an integral part of our legacy marketing team, working together to lead the strategic planning, support and delivery of integrated, multi-channel direct marketing campaigns, consortium activity and events to promote legacy giving and grow our pipeline of supporters.

We need a strategic thinker who is innovative, highly proactive and organised, and takes ownership in managing a portfolio of inspiring acquisition, conversion and stewardship campaigns, appeals and experiences across a range of channels including Digital, Email, Telephone, Direct Mail, Press, Events.   We need someone who will drive the programme forwards, maximising value, continuously improving ways of working, and innovating in response to need.

You will be highly numerate, basing decisions on data & insight, and engaging a diverse range of potential legacy supporters, by connecting them to opportunities to support Diabetes UKs work. You will ensure you provide an excellent supporter experience – inspiring donors to maximise the value of their gift, engage with other fundraising products and continue to support Diabetes UKs work.

The role will also be critical in championing legacy marketing across the organisation, ensuring all areas are aware of the importance of legacies and can support our activities.
