The Role
This is a great chance to join a busy policy team to work with colleagues on the work the Law Society does to be a legal sector leader on climate change. You will be part of the Private & Commercial Law team, who shape policy in areas that matter to many of our members and firms they work in.
Climate change is a growing policy area. The Law Society is a world leading professional body in this area, producing guidance on how climate change will impact solicitors and the law.
Over the next few years we will do work that:
* supports small firms with guidance and resources to assist decarbonisation and setting net zero strategies,
* develop thought leadership on the impact of climate change on lawyers and the law at a national and global level.
* ensure solicitors are equipped to advise on how climate risk impacts their clients.
Keeping up to date with climate policy and legal developments, you will spot and respond to opportunities for positive reforms to support our members. You will research and analyse the impact of changes on our members, on the clients they advise and provide reliable and well-informed advice and leadership. Often you will prepare written briefings, consultation responses and guidance for internal and external audiences, and occasionally you will give presentations. You will also work with colleagues in other areas of the organisation, such as the commercial and international teams.

What we're looking for
Ability to engage with and influence legal policy development across government, parliament, regulators and the legal profession. Spotting opportunities to develop credible and persuasive policy positions and recommendations.
Have a strong working knowledge of clime change issues. Expertise in how climate change is affecting the legal and/or the professional services sector, or the ability to quickly develop this.
Ability to research and analyse complex legal and climate policy issues and assess their implications for the profession, the rule of law and the business of law.
Ability to assess the different views and needs of the Law Society's 200,000 members and law firms/organisations they work for. Understand that what we produce needs to have a right balance between multiple needs/perspectives.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad and diverse range of people including colleagues across the Law Society, office holders and members, and external stakeholders at all levels.

Experience with Canva or similar design tools is a plus, as is familiarity with fundraising regulations, or a willingness to learn.

About the role
We’re looking to recruit a Senior Policy Adviser to join our Policy Solutions team and help deliver a new ambitious 3-year strategy to bring nature back from the brink by delivering a sustainable future in the UK and stopping deforestation overseas. Your remit will be to encourage a global transition to more sustainable land use and resilient food and farming system by using policy to tackle deforestation.
As Senior Policy Adviser your particular focus will be on setting the direction and delivering public policy for deforestation and conversion free and sustainable agricultural supply chains, for the UK and major consumer markets globally, particularly EU and China. You will be building on work of advocacy, campaigns and on the ground programme expertise in the UK and our partner offices. This role will involve supporting, and at times, leading an iterative process to understand the problem, explore and innovate solutions as well as design and prototype policy. We will look to you to maintain oversight of policy developments in farming, analysing existing and proposed policies for effectiveness and quality and being alert to new policy ideas. You will produce technical reports, coordinate activity with network colleagues and develop links and strategic relationships with other organisations to maximise our impact too.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as an IGVA supporting women and children who are impacted by different strands of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). The independent gender violence advocate will work closely with victims of gender-based violence from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy and support to survivors of gender-based violence at the highest risk and their children.
The role will be part of increasing the ability of partner agencies to recognise, reject and respond appropriately and safely to all forms of gender-based violence (including domestic violence, sexual, financial and emotional abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage and honour-based violence). The job involves working within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership protocols and procedures that prioritise the safety of survivors. The post holder will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and personal welfare support. What you’ll be doing
The post holder will help advance Ukie’s policy work on aspects of UK and international policy impacting the games and interactive entertainment industry through:

Monitoring policy changes and providing in-depth analysis, research, and reports for internal stakeholders.

Relationship building and engagement with Ukie members and wider sector stakeholders, including attendance at internal and external stakeholder meetings and coalition industry groups.
-
Support the Senior Policy Manager in research and drafting for Ukie’s external consultation responses, co-ordinating with members and facilitating internal forums for discussions on particular issues.
-
Support in organising events and engagement with policy makers within Whitehall, Westminster, the Devolved Governments and with regional, combined and local authorities as well as with our global partners in the EU, US and further afield.

Assisting the policy and research teams with major public affairs projects and campaigns according to the Ukie’s internal strategy and drawing on Ukie’s internal data and external partners where appropriate.

Supporting and promoting Ukie at external political meetings, including our bi-annual Westminster Games Week.

Support in raising the profile of Ukie and its significant policy priorities through external communications in partnership with the Ukie campaigns team, and through public scrutiny such as the use of written parliamentary questions.

Acting as the lead point of contact for the APPG on Video Games and Esports to which Ukie acts as the secretariat and taking joint responsibility for liaising with its members.

Draft external policy communications such as the Ukie Policy Byte, the bi-weekly political newsletter, with support from Senior Policy Manager and Head of Policy where necessary.

Be responsible for the team administration of internal stakeholder meetings, including sending out invites, taking minutes and preparing relevant material as well as maintaining up to date email lists of all stakeholders.
Relationship Management

Develop and maintain relationships with games industry member businesses and a wide range of external bodies; including partner organisations, government officials and other trade bodies.

Support the Senior Policy Manager and Head of Policy in the management of Ukie’s internal stakeholder groups – including Ukie’s policy group and its various working sub groups.

Maintain stakeholder engagement trackers and act as a point of contact for external engagement with Parliamentarians, regional politicians and their offices.

Support the Head of Policy and Chief Executive in any external engagements.

Support the policy team and wider Senior Management team with other reasonable tasks as required.
Qualifications and experience required for this role: Qualified by experience. You don’t need to hold a degree to apply for this role, but experience of working in a policy or government affairs facing role, public affairs agency or regulatory environment would be advantageous. On-the-job training will be provided via Ukie or external providers where appropriate and will be part of a structured development plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
●Lead account management of corporate partnerships, delivering first class stewardship, increasing engagement and supporting delivery for maximum potential for Variety
●Develop business leads to populate the corporate pipeline working with the new business manager, Director of Fundraising and CEO, for coordinating new business approaches
●Manage the largest national partnerships at Variety with integrated comms plans, staff and customer engagement and impact reporting
●Keep account plans and Salesforce, fundraising, communications, finance and impact reporting up to date, ensuring we meet key deadlines
●Attend Variety fundraising and awareness events, maximizing engagement opportunities for corporate partners and building relationships with supporters, while working closely with the services and communications team
●Manage budgeting of income from partners and reforecasting income
●Collaborate with the programmes team to plan our corporate partners Sunshine Coach presentations, Great Days Out, and visits to partner schools
●Coordinate staff volunteering for corporate partners when available
●Represent Variety externally at events and cheque presentations

Based on the success of the Making Waves programme over the last year, we now are in the process of expansion - with plans to increase delivery and engage more participants. REFERRALS AND ON-BOARDING

● Responding to general enquiries about the programme and distributing relevant information

● Ensuring the studio is clean, tidy, and correctly equipped

OUTREACH AND COMMUNICATIONS
