Senior Marketing & Communications Officer

The Science Council is seeking a dynamic Senior Marketing and Communications Officer to join its engagement and policy team. The post-holder will be responsible for leading and executing impactful communications and marketing initiatives with our members and external stakeholders. The role is pivotal in shaping the organisation’s voice, enhancing brand visibility, and driving engagement across multiple platforms.  

The Science Council is a charity and membership organisation that brings the science professions together and provides professional registration for scientists, science technicians and science teachers. Engaging with member organisations, potential members, science employers, partner organisations and others is central to all our work. The engagement team makes sure that we communicate with them effectively, host events that are relevant to them, have influence on their behalf, and help them improve equity, diversity and inclusion.

Summary of role

Salary: £34-36k

Working hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (we will consider flexible working)

About the role

We are looking for two exceptional Heads of Philanthropy to join our team to significantly increase philanthropic income for faculty fundraising priorities across King’s College London.Within your application, please indicate which position you are applying to, or if you are happy to be considered for both positions.

One role will lead the Health, Science & Technology philanthropy team, and the other will lead the Arts & Social Sciences philanthropy team. Candidates will need to demonstrate curiosity and genuine interest in the academic areas that fall within the role, and work in partnership with King’s experts and other stakeholders to be successful.

King’s has an ambition to significantly scale philanthropic income for Faculties as we prepare to launch our next major fundraising and engagement campaign in 2027 and mark the university’s bicentenary in 2029. There is currently at least one major gift fundraiser working in each Faculty. Working closely with the Associate Director, Faculty Philanthropy, the postholder will play a pivotal role in developing and growing the major gift fundraising function. They will be responsible for leading and nurturing a team of high value fundraisers to secure gifts at the £50k level and above.

We are looking for someone with a proven track-record of developing new, high value relationships, with experience of closing gifts at the six- and seven- figure level. They will need to demonstrate that they understand what is required to build and scale prospect portfolios. They should be intellectually curious and energised by the depth and breadth of King’s academic expertise, with particular interest and passion to work with senior university leaders and academics to secure funding for a range of priorities across either the Arts and Social Sciences, or Health, Science & Technology portfolio.

Working closely with the Associate Director, Faculty Philanthropy, the postholder will play a pivotal role in developing and growing the major gift fundraising function in advance of the launch of the university’s next public fundraising campaign. They will be responsible for leading and nurturing a team of high value fundraisers to secure gifts at the £50k level and above.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite  contract. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office, on King’s campuses or meeting donors externally. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

Purpose of the post

The Business Administrator will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of AHS. This position focuses on the practical delivery and coordination of operations including implementing processes, maintaining systems, and supporting teams to work efficiently to deliver a longitudinal study. Acting as a central point for administration, the postholder will help keep our operations organised, identify and escalate issues as they arise, and ensure that processes and activities run seamlessly across our remote organisation.

About Adolescent Health Study

The Adolescent Health Study (AHS) is an ambitious new UKRI-funded initiative to establish a prospective, longitudinal population study that will generate a globally leading open science data platform and research resource. AHS aims to recruit at least 100,000 young people from across the UK and to follow their mental and physical health and wellbeing over at least 10 years. It plans to collect data through questions and measures; to obtain bio-samples for a wide range of genomic and other high-throughput assays; and to capture linked data relevant to health and wellbeing from participants’ health, education and other administrative records. There will be a strong emphasis on engaging with and involving young people, schools, parents and other relevant stakeholders in the design and delivery of the study, as well as on including young people that represent as wide as possible a range of backgrounds, experiences and characteristics. AHS will focus on enabling a wide range of research, including studies of the critical biological and social developments that occur during the transition from childhood to adulthood and the determinants of both mental and physical health and wellbeing in adolescents and young adults.

Main responsibilities

 Operational Delivery and Implementation

· Provide hands-on support to teams and managers in rolling out new tools, systems and operational processes that are critical for the success of the longitudinal study

· Support the smooth, day-to-day running of business operations, ensuring tasks and processes are completed efficiently

· Identify operational issues or bottlenecks, propose practical solutions where appropriate, and escalate matters to the Business Manager

Administration and Systems Management

· Maintain and update shared digital platforms, databases and documents to ensure accuracy and compliance

Main Purpose of Role:

The Programme Support and Administrative Officer will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of CFAB’s programmes and organisational functions. This role supports executive coordination, training delivery, family support administration, international social work logistics, and general office management. The postholder will work across teams to provide high-quality administrative support, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.

Key responsibilities:

Programme Support and General Administration

• Monitor shared inboxes and switchboard calls.
• Respond to ad hoc staff queries and manage incoming post.

• Send initial and closure letters for client cases.
• Track inactive cases and follow up on referral forms.
• Prepare duty rotas, upload referrals and update the country information list.
• Support contract preparation and database maintenance for International Social Workers (ISWs).
• Support feedback collection and documentation.

• Assist with Mailchimp campaigns and mailing list research.

• Upload donations into Salesforce.
• Prepare donor thank-you letters and assist with prospect research.
• Provide general support across departments as needed.

Executive Support

• Schedule and coordinate meetings for the CEO and senior leadership, including diary management and events.
• Track meeting actions and follow-ups.
• Support minute-taking using ai and ad hoc research tasks.

Training & Learning Support

• Coordinate training calendars and liaise with teams.
• Update training materials and manage Eventbrite pages.
• Provide limited on-the-day training support and monitor certificates and surveys.

Facilities & Office Management

• Order stationery and maintain office tidiness.
• Support logistical tasks such as PAT testing, IT coordination, and office trackers.

Our Head of Community Services is a key leadership role in our Services and Support directorate, as part of our Services Delivery function.

Our Community Services delivery team includes our Community Support/ Resources services. 

Our Head of Community Services will be:

• leading on the delivery and continuous improvement of our Community based services, developing a high-performing and motivated culture within teams.
• providing clear leadership to ensure our community services and support are high quality, impactful and respond directly to the needs of the MS community
• responsible for our community services in our Live Well activity group and drive a one model approach across all of our services and support.
• responsible for the growth in the reach of our community services, ensuring that we increasingly represent the diversity of the entire MS community and decisions are driven by local need.

We’re looking for:

• experience in the delivery of community based services and support, including volunteer led services, events and services delivered by third parties. Including experience in quality assurance, development and meeting key performance indicators and ensuring community input and satisfaction.
• experience and excellent working knowledge of volunteering and volunteer management and leadership  
• substantial experience of successfully leading and managing a large and geographically dispersed team of staff and volunteers, embedding change and fostering a high performing culture.
• substantial experience of working in a senior leadership team determining strategic direction, financial planning and monitoring and ensuring successful delivery.
