SHINE is a membership organisation offering free services and support to over 14,700 members living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), and associated conditions.

We currently have 750 members living with NPH and this is growing significantly each month. This role will provide a specific focus on the area of NPH, whilst also supporting wider Shine activities. 

Main purpose of role 

Deliver a high-quality service to and facilitate opportunities for, individuals living with NPH/dementia and their families/carers through Shine membership across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 

Empower and enable members living with the conditions to lead healthy and happy lives through greater independence, better condition management and by creating links to the Shine community and their local networks. 

Raise awareness of NPH across Health & Social Care professionals and the public. 

Support the planning and delivery of the annual NPH Awareness Week. 

As part of a high performing team, support Shine to be recognised as the number one provider of support for NPH outside of the NHS. 

Promote and support all Shine’s services and activities.

Your purpose 

This is a critical role in the Communications, Campaigns and Public Affairs Department. As Public Affairs Manager, you will support the Head of Communications, Campaigns and Public Affairs to make oracy education ordinary, co-ordinating and  project managing and delivering public affairs work as well as leading public relations work that increases our profile with policy makers. In doing so, you will play  an integral role in ensuring all children, regardless of their background, find their voice for success in school  and in life.

Your responsibilities 

This is a senior role in the Communications, Campaigns and Public Affairs Department, as part of the wider Learning, Impact and Influence Directorate 

Public Affairs (80%)

• Drive forward Voice 21’s public affairs strategy, building key relationships, understanding and momentum that develops Voice 21’s influence with Government and non-parliamentary policy makers, ensuring that we have a meaningful role in shaping an oracy entitlement for every child, and appropriate mechanisms for its implementation

• Deliver Public Affairs business as usual work, for example; organising school visits, leading political and parliamentary monitoring, stakeholder mapping and horizon-scanning and organising events in parliament and at party conferences

• Work with policy makers on local, regional and national level to influence those responsible for the delivery of education at primary and secondary level

• Engage and manage stakeholders and other key people across and beyond the organisation who work with the Learning, Impact and Influence directorate to leverage relationships in pursuit of our organisational strategy and mission

• Lead on Voice 21’s role as secretariat to the Oracy All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) 

• Produce/co-produce consultation responses, blogs, internal and external briefings, parliamentary questions and other related communications in line with our content strategy

• Act as an internal expert consultant on public affairs, decision makers and implementation of our agenda

Public Relations (20%) 

• Deliver public relations activity to raise our profile and support our brand, including through awards, events and speaking engagements 

• Spotting reactive communications opportunities in line with the public affairs strategy 

Your progression

Within 1 month, you’ll have:

• Started building strong working relationships with the team, warm policy makers and sector partners

• Created a database of influential head teachers

• Helped refine our policy asks in key areas into easy-to-communicate goals

Within 3 months, you’ll have: 

• Used analysis and polling to build reports on key advocate groups who can help spread our messages

• Launched our Oracy APPG

• Refined our monitoring and reactive opportunity spotting systems

From 6 months onwards, we expect for you to be:

• Have worked with our research team to develop a literature review of oracy education policy at local and national level

• Migrated our contract tracking to Salesforce and expanded it to capture relationships help at local and national levels

• Having developed a public profile among education policy makers

This role exists to promote and support DAHA Accreditation among housing providers and local authorities, ensuring they embed effective and survivor-centred responses to domestic abuse. Its main goal is to drive system and culture change in the housing sector, improving safety, support, and outcomes for survivors of domestic abuse through the implementation of DAHA's nationally recognised standards.
 
The role directly contributes to Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse's mission by embedding domestic abuse best practice into housing systems at both strategic and operational levels. By building partnerships, delivering training, supporting accreditation, and influencing policy, the role ensures the housing sector plays a proactive part in a coordinated community response—ultimately helping prevent abuse, safeguard survivors, and strengthen institutional accountability.
 
This role addresses the critical gap in how housing providers respond to domestic abuse. It helps standardise and raise the quality of responses, ensures survivors receive safe and appropriate support, and builds capacity across housing systems to prevent harm and hold perpetrators accountable. The added value lies in reducing harm, driving consistency, improving survivor experiences, and supporting organisations to meet their legal and ethical responsibilities through accreditation and training.

The Role

The service aims to identify and address the needs of stroke survivors and carers whose lives are affected by aphasia, by providing a range of innovative support solutions, supporting them to meet their desired outcomes. A key part of the role will be to support service users and the delivery of the service.

Reporting to the Stroke Service Delivery Coach, the Stroke Support Coordinator will:

• Supporting new stroke survivors and their carers from hospital discharge into the community.

We’re looking for a grounded, ambitious and deeply relational person to take forward the organnisation's work in Wrexham, Rochdale and potentially other areas. This role will help shape bold, community-driven change in towns full of energy, ideas and potential. You will oversee all aspects of their work in these areas, developing and delivering an ambitious, community-rooted strategy that brings local people together behind a vision for their areas.
 
The role calls for someone who is detail oriented but can see the bigger picture. Someone warm, personal and engaging, who seems opportunity and harnesses it. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of developing and delivering strategies in community-led or place-based settings. You will be skilled in planning and project management, have excellent relationship building experience and be comfortable working within, and navigating, ambiguity. Finally, you will need the ability to drive, with access to your own vehicle, to travel independently across the country.
