Establishing its roots in 1893, The Highbury Centre stands as a beacon of warmth and welcome in North London, extending its arms to foreign and home missionaries, Christian workers, and friends from all walks of life. Embracing the rich tapestry of the Protestant Evangelical tradition, it not only offers comfortable accommodation but also serves as a nurturing hub for gatherings and conferences. In addition, The Highbury Centre also oversees an associated property.
The Highbury Centre is now looking for a General Manager (GM). As GM, you'll take on a role where your caring and supportive nature shines through, fostering an environment where staff feel valued and empowered.
With a background in hospitality and operations, you'll instill confidence and motivation in your team members. Ensuring a warm Christian welcome for our guests, alongside your dedication to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the centre and associate property.
We are looking for a GM with a compassionate leadership style, who will not only nurture the well-being of our staff but also contribute to creating a culture of positivity and excellence within our centre.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in managing a guest house with an understanding of legal and regulatory responsibilities
- Enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills
- Quality leadership, able to work cooperatively, motivate and negotiate effectively
- Financially literate
In addition to your salary, you will be provided with a charming two-story apartment featuring two bedrooms. A third bedroom can be provided if needed. Your new company
A prestigious London Local Authority with a large regional jurisdiction over both the City of London and the county of Greater London is looking for a number of 12-month front of house and administrative staff to join a busy and expanding team based in Stanford-Le-Hope/Tilbury/Corringham area.
Your new role
To provide clerical and administrative support to the staff in a busy and expanding office. To work as one of the team of Support Assistants within the Service, in the provision of an effective, efficient and responsive service.
Hours: 37 hours per week within the hours of 6am - 10pm on a shift basis
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out reception duties and act as 'first point of contact' for visitors to the office.
- Sorting, date stamping, scanning all documents received and distributing post and documents received into the office and verifying delivery of documents, parcels and other goods in accordance with office procedures.
- Provide clerical and administrative support to the field staff, as required.
- Arrange the collection of all samples on a daily basis that need to go to the labs, preparing for collection and liaising with the couriers.
- Use office equipment, including the postage franking machine, facsimile machine, scanner, photocopier and computer system to carry out the duties of the post.
- Answer all incoming calls and respond to telephone queries from a wide range of sources regarding the current status of imported food cargo and charging procedures, including passing calls on to the relevant staff.
- Under the direction of the Officers, or Technical Officers, carry out documentary checking with regard to consignments of imported food (not of animal origin), and maintain all necessary electronic and paper-based records.
- Input data into internal and external database systems and carry out general internal database maintenance, e.g. modifying tables, queries and reports.
- Maintain and update electronic and paper-based filing and record systems, including the equipment inventory. Assist with the archiving of items, and deal with confidential documents appropriately.
- Under the direction of Official Veterinarians or Officers, record Products of Animal Origin and other imported food consignments on the computerised cargo handling system and port manifesting systems.
- Under the direction of Official Veterinarians or Officers, they undertake the initial documentary check for third country consignments of products of animal origin in accordance with ISO procedures and ensure that documents for charging purposes are sent to the Finance Section on a daily basis.
What you'll need to succeed
- Live in the Corringham/Tilbury/Stanford-Le-Hope area
- Have your own transportation and driving licence
- Be proficient with MS Office, and
- Immediately available to work in May 2024

MLC are proud to be partnered with Oak Housing in their search for a Finance Director.
Oak Housing is a For-Profit Registered Provider offering a range of affordable housing solutions to Local Authorities and NHS Trusts in London and the South East. Since being acquired in 2019 by a consortium of real estate professionals and the current management team and organisation has grown from 200 to almost 1000 units and have ambitious plans to triple in size over the next 3 years. Working closely with strategic partners and funds, one of their biggest growth areas recently has been in providing key-worker accommodation, specifically with the NHS.
The Finance Director will sit alongside the Operations Director and report into the CEO. The role is responsible for overseeing all financial activities for the organisation, whilst offering critical strategic direction. The internal finance function is growing, and the organisation needs more strategic involvement at the director level. As the organisation and the role develop, there is scope for this role to grow and develop further and the team reporting into this role will expand in the short to medium term.
Main responsibilities of the role:
- To support the CEO in managing the rigors from day-to-day budget setting / monitoring and cashflows to fund reporting and Board briefings.
- Carry out a review of the present situation, incorporating systems, processes, deficiencies and risk areas.
- Manage, nurture and develop a finance team, implementing sound financial controls and a can-do culture to empower decision making.
- Work with the operations director to prepare the organisation for the regulatory scrutiny that will come as the organisation passes the 1000-unit mark.
- Deliver board-level strategic insight, shaping the future of the organisation and driving growth.
- Flex up and down between a ‘doing’ role and a board-level role involved in decision making about the strategic direction of the organisation.
This role will suit someone who thrives on responsibility and wants to influence a whole organisation without being constrained by pre-existing structures. If you are someone who loves a challenge, is entrepreneurial, wants to think outside the box and be a disruptor, this could be the role for you! Oak is also open to someone stepping up from a Head Of role in a larger organisation into this as a first director position.
To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will:
- Be a fully qualified accountant, ideally with experience in housing or working within a regulated sector.
- Show the flexibility to move from high-level strategic decision making to rolling their sleeves up and getting stuck in to solve problems.
- Have managed teams previously and be able to demonstrate a track record of success.
