The Deputy Head of Fundraising will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission. This exciting opportunity would suit a fundraising professional with effective leadership, strategic thinking and analytical skills. Proven experience within the non-profit sector, with a focus on individual giving and major donors is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build strong and productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

The Deputy Head of Fundraising will join a small but agile team, providing them with experience across a range of income streams, a chance to develop high-level relationships with senior members of staff and senior volunteers as well as direct experience stewarding donors. There will also be opportunities to develop professionally with support on CPD and other training opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring that financial transactions are administered in the most efficient and effective way, with effective controls and processes in line with internal and external governance

• Ensuring that purchasing administration from point of order through to payment is administered in line with agreed Service Levels

The role

This exciting role within NLOS’s senior management team was created to help bring greater strategic alignment across NLOS and its charities and to better capitalise on new and existing opportunities. The post is critical to ensuring that we maximise the resources available to us through increased income generation and by forging strategic partnerships across multiple sectors and fields that allow us to increase and leverage support for each charity and provide a world class customer experience, while protecting and preserving green spaces of international significance. All activities will be undertaken with a priority to conserve the natural spaces we oversee, and to ensure that income generated at each site is reinvested back into the charity/site where it was raised. 

As a member of NLOS’s senior management team, the postholder will be responsible for overseeing a diverse and complementary portfolio, including income generation, strategic partnerships, marketing and communications, event and license management, volunteer and engagement programmes, and strategic partnerships. They will lead a newly created team with diverse and complementary roles, fill remaining team vacancies, and create a cohesive approach and narrative. As a member of NLOS’s senior management team, they will work closely with colleagues and the Superintendent to create and implement new opportunities to further improve these four iconic green spaces.

What's the role about?

The Head of Land role provides strategic leadership and a country overview of our work on recovering nature habitat management (on and off reserves), manages country-level relationships with national conservation bodies and is responsible for country land management compliance via management of our rural surveyors. As a member of the Country Leadership Team the post holder will have collective responsibility for the development and delivery of the Country Strategy and accountability for the ensuring that we have an effective overview of our conservation work in country, ensuring standards and support needs are met.

The role is responsible for representing the RSPB’s conservation work in England to external national level audiences. Having an inspiring approach to communications and identifying collaborative opportunities and solving shared challenges in Nature Conservation would be welcome skills. The post holder will provide conservation leadership in country, maintaining an overview of progress against country species and habitats targets and ensuring that we are deploying the most effective interventions from our conservation toolkit in country.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Sound knowledge of the land management sector in England (including the legislative, policy and fiscal frameworks which drive land use change and management);
• A knowledgeable conservationist with proven ecological knowledge and ability to draw on practical and personal knowledge and experience to communicate with credibility to internal and external audiences;

Schoolreaders was launched ten years ago in Bedfordshire with the aim of recruiting volunteers to provide one-to-one reading support for children in primary schools across the country. Over 22,000 children in over 1000 schools are receiving weekly reading sessions from a Schoolreaders volunteer. One in four children are leaving primary school unable to read to the expected Government standard. Heritage of London Trust restores the buildings and monuments that tell the story of the city and the people who live within it. The Head of Scotland and Northern Ireland is responsible for leading our vision to end the need for food banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scotland currently leads the way in having a rights-based, progressive agenda to ending the need for food banks, but there is much to do to ensure political intentions become a reality. This role directs Trussell Trust’s policy and public affairs work in Scotland and Northern Ireland, leads our Scotland and Northern Ireland department as they support our network of food banks and works strategically with key partners to tackle the underlying reasons why people need to come to food banks.  

Based in Scotland or Northern Ireland, with travel around the UK as necessary

Role responsibilities 

• Lead the delivery of the Trussell Trust strategy for ending the need for food banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland, working to embed the Changing Communities, Changing Minds and Changing Policy programmes across the network, including through providing strategic support for the effective delivery of the Pathfinder, FI and organising programmes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. 

• Work with key partners to direct Trussell Trust’s policy and public affairs and work with the Scottish government and local authorities across Scotland. 

• Facilitate the sharing of learning from Scotland to help shape our long-term policy and public affairs work in Northern Ireland. 

• Lead the Scotland and Northern Ireland department to ensure the safe and effective operations of the food bank network. 

• Work with our Head of Strategic Church Engagement to deliver a church engagement strategy that will mobilise the church in Scotland and Northern Ireland to work to end the need for food banks. 

• Work with the Policy, Research and Impact, and Network Programmes and Innovation directorates to ensure effective cross-departmental working on policy and research opportunities, strategic priorities, church engagement, external partnerships and impact reporting. 

Person Specification 

Technical skills and minimum knowledge: 

• Senior level experience of leading delivery programmes nationally and locally. 

• Senior level experience of directing policy and public affairs programme nationally and locally, and representing the Trussell Trust to senior government representatives, national stakeholders and the media. 

• Expertise of significantly growing and managing services, project and programmes to drive change; leading, motivating and inspiring teams; leading culture change; able to manage multiple projects, identifying conflicting demands and establishing clear priorities in order to meet agreed objectives. 

• An effective communicator, verbally and in writing. Diplomatic and with the interpersonal skills required by the role. 

• Ensure that due regard is given to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within all objectives that report into this department.

About the role

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

About you

You are a passionate and committed campaigner, determined to create societal change.

You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.

You will be comfortable working across the full marcomms mix and using different channels and platforms to reach audiences.

You will have great project management skills and will love keeping a project on track.

HE Partnerships at Unifrog

After successfully launching the HE Partnerships arm of Unifrog in 2020, we now support 175+ universities globally with raising brand awareness, inspiring the next generation, and developing a talented and diverse pipeline of prospective applicants. We also connect universities with teachers, advisors, and international school counselors through the Unifrog online community and in-person events.

Our focus remains on continuing to grow our global university partner numbers and building ever stronger relationships with our current partners. We are constantly exploring how we can develop our UK and international partnership offerings to make sure they are best-supporting universities in their marketing and recruitment aims, while at the same time making sure our student and teacher users have access to the best resources and opportunities possible.

There are three main areas of work:

1. Insights - We provide university partners with aggregated user data from the Unifrog platform to uncover trends at subject and regional levels, with the aim of informing universities’ marketing, recruitment, and portfolio planning.

2. Conferences, webinars, fairs, and other events - These in-person and online events enable universities to interact directly with our huge community of students and teachers. We’re focused on making them both useful and fun.

3. Content collaboration - We co-create written and video content for students and teachers to do with progression, learning, wellbeing, and careers, which all end up on the Unifrog platform. The content could be anything from interviews with an admissions tutor about how their institution is unique, to a guide on what career pathways are available after studying a particular subject, or a Course on how to approach medieval literature.

The foundational principle of our HE Partnerships work is that everything we do has to be useful to students and teachers.

The role and your key responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for the success of the HE Partnerships team. You’ll set the team’s overall approach, line manage the team, and be responsible for meeting our HE growth and partner retention targets. You’ll need to foster the positive and innovative team environment that we expect at Unifrog.

Here are some of the main responsibilities within this role:

• Work with other people at Unifrog to continually refine how we make sales and better support our partners through our partnership offering. For example, you’ll work with our Data analysis, Marketing, and Events teams to:

  • realise requests from partners for new data insights and reports 

  • identify insights and develop narratives for conference presentations

  • improve the events we run with universities

• Work with the New Business Lead (HE & Employers) to design and oversee the execution of different prospecting campaigns, always considering the audience (university’s location, job role of recipient, university’s priorities) and tailoring each campaign accordingly. 

  • You’ll need to assess which conferences, sponsorship, and other marketing opportunities we should take advantage of.

• Determine the timing and key messaging for communication with our HE partners, and work with our Marketing team to deliver this communication.

• Manage our relationships with HE network organisations (e.g. HELOA). Seek out further opportunities that help position us as thought leaders in the undergraduate recruitment and admissions spaces. 

• Line-manage the HE Partnerships team, for example:

  • Shadow HE Partnerships Managers on demos and review calls, supporting them to keep improving in their role.

  • Oversee successful partner engagement, auditing, and Matching campaign strategies led by our HE Partnerships Coordinator

  • Conduct Performance and Development Reviews with the HE Partnerships team. Support them with their personal development goals. 

• Be the point person for escalating issues related to partners at risk of not resubscribing.

• To help you stay close to the realities in the marketplace, you’ll manage a small number of university accounts, and be directly responsible for their growth and retention. 

Working together

You’ll line manage our four HE Partnership Managers (who are responsible for bringing new university partners on board and building upon the relationships we have with our current partners), our HE Partnerships Coordinator (who is responsible for tracking partner engagement, flagging universities of concern, and supporting better usage of partnership activities such as Matching campaigns), and work closely with other team members in our marketing, data analysis, content and school-facing teams. 

You’ll be line-managed by Unifrog’s Partnerships Director for International Schools and Higher Education.

  • We work with universities around the world that are often very different from each other; you need to be quick to understand how we can be useful to them, and how they can be useful to our students and teachers.

  • Whether it’s marketing collateral or a new Insights Report, it’s important you have the skills and discipline to carefully check our HE-focused content.
