Support Officer
We take great pride in the personalised, tailored support we offer, no matter what difficulties someone is facing, and the feedback we get from the people we help, who consistently tell us we’ve made a life changing - even life-saving - difference.
Our support services team is at the very heart of that and we have an unusual opportunity for someone amazing to come and be part of it.
The Role
There’s no such thing as a typical day in the LionHeart support services team as the cases we support are as individual as everyone who calls us. We support people from the very beginning of their careers as graduate surveyors or apprentices, through to retirement and beyond. You could be supporting someone through illness or work-related stress, arranging legal support or counselling, or helping someone who’s been out of work become more confident in their interview skills.
You'll operate the helpline on a rotational basis, providing information, advice and support for the professionals who get in touch, no matter what challenge they are facing. You will manage your own caseload, providing a tailored package of support to meet need and encourage steps towards independence - ranging from people who need short-term help and advice or access to a single service, to more complex situations where you may work with someone over several months providing multiple services.
We’re looking for someone who is well-organised and can work independently, yet is a good team player who can work with colleagues and external partners to provide the best support possible for RICS professionals and their families.
We want someone who has at least three years’ experience of working/ volunteering in a supportive role with members of the public, with excellent communication skills and great attention to detail. Most important of all is the ability to deal compassionately with individuals, while maintaining confidentiality at all times especially when handling sensitive information.
As an employer, we pride ourselves on a real commitment to work-life balance and a fun, flexible and exciting working environment that is fully inclusive and welcoming.
We also offer training opportunities and staff development days.
We would like to encourage diverse applicants for this position as we are actively seeking to diversify the team throughout the organisation.
The shortlisting process will be anonymous in order to mitigate unconscious bias and ensure a level playing field for all applicants. This means that the shortlisting panel will not have your name, address or any other demographic or other characteristic information at the point of shortlisting.
We are proud to be a Disability Confident Committed Employer. If you have a disability and you meet all minimum requirements of the job as set out in the JD and Employee Specification you will be put forward for interview.

The Thalidomide Trust is seeking a collaborative, inspiring and empathetic leader to join as our next Director of Health & Wellbeing, providing leadership to a committed and expert team as we work to deliver the best possible support to thalidomide survivors as they enter older age.
The Thalidomide Trust was established as a registered charity in 1973 to support individuals living with disabilities caused by their mothers taking thalidomide during pregnancy. Today, our support encompasses financial grants and guidance, together with comprehensive health and wellbeing support (including emotional support). We also undertake research to better understand the needs of our beneficiaries and provide vital information resources for professionals working with them. Secure funding means we can focus entirely on how to improve the lives of our beneficiaries.

As our beneficiaries are now in their 60s, we must continue to evolve to meet their changing needs. The Trust is approaching a crucial transition point - effectively becoming an older person’s charity over the next 10-20 years, as the group’s needs become ever more complex and diverse. We must ensure we are ready to provide much-needed support to our beneficiaries as they face the typical challenges of aging that impact them more as thalidomide survivors, as well as the unique impacts and accelerated aging caused by thalidomide damage.

This means we need a new Director of Health & Wellbeing to join in October this year to lead our fantastic, 12-strong team of health & wellbeing professionals though this transition period. They will ensure they have the resources and skills to support our beneficiaries into this next phase of life, maintain and build on our award-winning culture, contribute to the development of the Trust’s next Five-Year Strategic Plan, and lead the implementation of the health and wellbeing objectives and deliverables within the plan.
