Job description

Our three hospital charities fundraise so that Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust can go above and beyond for their patients. The Social Media Manager is responsible for leading and delivering the Charities social media strategy, to support brand growth and fundraising objectives.

The role oversees the creation of engaging, social-first content across multiple channels, ensuring it resonates with diverse audiences and drives meaningful engagement. The Social Media Manager manages day-to-day social media operations, including campaign planning, content workflows and channel performance, while also identifying new opportunities to expand reach and strengthen audience connections. A key focus is on using data and insights to understand audience behaviour, optimise campaigns and measure success.

The Social Media Manager also plays a strategic and collaborative role across the Charities directorate, working closely with Experience & Engagement and Fundraising teams to align social media with wider organisational priorities. The role involves managing stakeholder relationships, overseeing paid social activity, and acting as a subject matter expert to guide best practice and upskill colleagues. In addition, the Social Media Manager line manages a Social Media Officer and may occasionally be required to deputise for the Head of Digital Experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Social Media Manager to deliver an exceptional experience for our audiences across our social media channels.
  • Manage day-to-day organic social media activity across 3 charity brands, including the creation of basic static and video content and daily community management.
  • Manage the social media content calendar, including brainstorming meetings and identifying key awareness days, to ensure that we’re posting regular, highly engaging content.
  • Use social media analytics to embed regular reporting through weekly and monthly updates.
  • With the support of the Social Media Manager, develop organic social content to support strategic and fundraising goals.
  • Work with a wide variety of colleagues from different areas of the charity and our partners to ensure social media supports their objectives.
  • Manage day-to-day administration of social accounts, including data, paid social invoices, donation reports and basic analytics.
  • Provide social media support on the day during our fundraising events, including at weekends.

Role responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you would be reasonably expected to take on wider tasks that are commensurate with the level of your role.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

 Skills, abilities, and attributes:

  • Excellent editorial and copy writing skills with a knowledge of plain English communications and strong attention to detail.
  • Motivated by results and comfortable in a data-driven environment.
  • Comfortable working with stakeholders of all levels of the organisation and building collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to stay updated on social media news and trends, emerging platforms and best practices.
  • A creative and enthusiastic approach to social media based on experience of what works well on various platforms and a willingness to encourage new ideas and approaches.
  • Demonstrable willingness to test and experiment, with a strong appetite for developing skills and knowledge.
  • Delivery-minded – willing to get stuck in and work at pace.
  • Collaborative – able to build rapport with stakeholders and contribute to collective effort.
  • A commitment to our DEI principles and putting them into practice throughout our work.

Knowledge, experience, and qualifications:

  • Experience running and managing a busy content calendar, including brainstorming meetings.
  • Experience creating static and video content for social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Experience working with different teams to create content which meets different goals.
  • Experience of community management, engaging with supporters to make them feel appreciated and representing the brand online.
  • Experience of using social media scheduling tools such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite to manage content.
  • Experience writing in different tones of voice is key; ideally working across multiple brands at the same time.
  • Experience in using data to make informed decisions, ideally with experience of using social media and Google Analytics.

Benefits

  • Contributory Pension
  • Annual personal development budget
  • Annual health and wellbeing personal allowance
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and parental leave pay accessible without length of service requirements.
