Senior Project Manager – National Cycle Network

£37.904 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Base: Hybrid with commutable distance to the Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle Hub 

Contract: Permanent 

Disclosure: Basic/Enhanced/ DBS is not required for this position as the post holder will not be working with school and community groups in the region. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Team: Delivery/ NCN 

As the Senior Project Manager, you will lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of large and complex infrastructure projects. These projects will support the organisation’s active travel goals and help create long‑term, sustainable benefits for communities. 

You will be responsible for making sure projects are well planned and delivered to a high standard. This includes managing time, budgets and people effectively, identifying and addressing risks early, and ensuring that all work meets legal, safety and policy requirements. 

A key part of the role is working closely with others. You will collaborate with partners and stakeholders, build positive working relationships, develop business development proposals with a range of colleagues, and support meaningful engagement with local communities so that their needs and feedback are considered throughout the project. 

This role requires a high level of experience in project management, leadership and strategic thinking. You will be expected to make clear decisions, provide direction and support to others, and focus on delivering projects that have a positive and lasting impact. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of walking, wheeling and cycling projects
• Manage resources, compliance and alignment with organisational goals
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders to support effective active travel projects
• Lead, line manage and support a team to maximise performance and development
• Collaborating with Growth & Partnerships and Business Development colleagues to spot opportunities, develop compelling concepts and win new work that broadens our funding base.

ABOUT YOU 

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply. 

• ⁠Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject plus 4 years’ experience, or 7 years’ experience in a related role
• Strong knowledge of active travel infrastructure, including spatial and transport planning
• Proven experience in project and programme management, including budgets and risk
• Experience leading, supervising and supporting teams to deliver projects on time and to budget
• The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.
• Experience in developing project proposals and securing work from a range of funders.

The successful candidate will be based at Endurance House, Vision Park, Chivers Way, Histon, Cambridge CB24 9ZR, with the optional flexibility of hybrid working to support work life balance, whilst meeting the requirements of the role

Fixed Term Contract – Approximatley 18 months

About the role:

As Senior Project Manager, you will have responsibility for planning, delivering, and embedding two high-profile, business critical projects:

· Implementation of new housing management IT system

· Refurbishment of head office; and

· Supporting other corporate priority projects

You will work closely with internal teams, external partners, and senior leaders to ensure both projects are delivered to time, budget, scope, and quality, whilst providing regular progress reports to the Corporate Management Team (CMT), HRG Cttee and Board as required.

As the Senior Project Manager your duties will include:

· Developing project scope, deliverables, timelines and budgets in line with business objectives for two complex projects.

· Manage project governance, including risk, issues, dependencies and change control, acting as primary contact for queries.

· Build strong relationships across internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth delivery of both projects.

· Support change management activities including training, adoption and changes to current practice and procedure.

· Ensure compliance with CHS policies and procedures, including financial regulations, health and safety, data protection, IT and data security.

· Attendance at meetings with colleagues and other professionals as required.

About you

· Proven experience of managing large, complex projects simultaneously.

· Project management qualification (eg; PRINCE2) or equivalent project management software

· You will have a minimum 5 years’ experience in project management.

· You will have proven experience in project managing the implementation of complex IT systems and/or office refurbishment programmes from start to finish.

· You will have knowledge and understanding of Project management software and tools.

· Strong leadership skills; able to inspire, influence, and build strong relationships at all levels.

· Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

· Access to transport for work purposes and business insurance for own vehicle where appropriate.

In this role, you’ll guide major projects from start to finish - shaping governance, managing risks, keeping budgets on track and bringing people with you every step of the way. You’ll ensure projects deliver real results for wildlife, landscapes and communities, using the RSPB’s Project Management Framework.

Additional Information:

• This is a 12 month fixed term contract, full time role for 37.5 hours per week.
• This role can be conducted from home but you would need to be able to travel throughout Wales regularly.
• The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
