We are looking for a Reading Project Leader, to deliver some of our reading projects in London on a part-time, term-time only basis. You will lead a team of volunteers on three projects per week, being present at a community base/online while your volunteer team visits local families and reads with children. You will also have the opportunity to read with families yourself.

You will be a resourceful, confident decision maker able to operate independently to support your team and be able to engage with our community partners and beneficiaries.

The Role

As Deputy Shop Manager at our shop in Ilkley, you will manage the day-to-day operation of the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager, including managing a team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures. You will lead by example and ensure that volunteers, supporters, donors, and customers understand how their contributions are making a difference to the lives of people in Yorkshire and beyond.

Specifically, you will:

• Play an active part in running our shop in Ilkley, supporting the Shop Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.
• Provide cover for days off, holidays and sickness as required, with possible occasional travel to other shops to provide support if needed by the charity.
• Support the Shop Manager to maximise the income and profit of the shop through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation.
• Manage a team of well-trained volunteers in the absence of the Shop Manager and take every effort to create a positive retail environment.
• Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received).
• Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes.
• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• To ideally be educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.
• Experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development.
• To be highly organised with good time management skills.
• To be able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

About the role

In this role, you’ll be one of the first points of contact for our incredible supporters who are ‘doing their own’ fundraising and you’ll also play an important role in the day to day running of the mass ‘DIY fundraising’ programme.

This will include responding to supporter enquiries, sending out fundraising materials, and managing our community fundraising Facebook group.

Providing operational support to the wider team is a key part of this role. This will include processing invoices, working with external suppliers to replenish and manage stock levels, and accurately delivering processes such as coding income and thanking supporters.

You’ll be joining a passionate and supportive team who are based across the UK. About the role

As Research Grants Manager, you will establish and manage Macmillan’s research funding activities. You’ll help develop our research strategy, build a programme of grant funding, and ensure robust, equitable and transparent processes across the full research funding cycle.

You will work closely with senior clinical leaders, academic partners and research funders to establish Macmillan’s identity within the UK cancer research ecosystem and deliver high‑quality, strategically aligned research grants.
 

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver a research strategy and priority themes aligned with Macmillan’s strategy, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and Research & Health Data Lead.
• Establish Macmillan’s research funding programme to enable the award of high quality, strategically aligned research grants to build national research capacity centred on people living with cancer.

About you

The successful candidate will bring:

• An advanced degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., health policy or health services research, public health, social science, implementation science) or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience of establishing and managing research funding programmes, including application, peer review and post‑award processes within a research funder, charity or equivalent.
• Experience of convening and facilitating expert panels, including lived experience representatives.

About Little Hearts Matter

Little Hearts Matter (LHM) is a national charity with over 7000 members. We are the only charity in the UK that offers support and information to, and represents the needs of, children and families following a diagnosis of single ventricle heart disease (half a working heart). These congenital cardiac conditions can never be cured, even following repeated surgery, so the children must learn to live within the restrictions that their disability and fears for their future create.

Little Hearts Matter is there from the time parents learn of their child’s condition, through risk-filled treatment into a challenged-filled life at home. About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the membership offer at the Horniman Museum and Gardens, overseeing a popular and growing scheme that plays a vital role in supporting our work. Line Manager: Provisionally the Chairman of the board of trustees

Accountable to: Provisionally the Pepper Foundation board of trustees

Primary objectives: The Head of Fundraising manages a small, expanding team to deliver sustainable fundraising income. Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours per week with some flexibility on when hours are worked.

Salary: £46000-£50000 FTE Pro Rata (depending on experience).

Pension: We make a 5% contribution to your pension with a minimum of 3% from the employee based on salary paid. Benefits: Mileage allowance in accordance with HMRC guidelines, provision of laptop and mobile phone for performance of duties, reimbursement of work expenses and an Employee Assistance Programme.

Specialisms: The Head of Fundraising will specialise in increasing income through donor development and legacy fundraising whilst having a good, general understanding of community, corporate, events and challenge fundraising.

Office location: Your primary place of work will be at home, but significant time will be spent out and about meeting supporters and colleagues. Pepper has access to meeting facilities and a small operational base in Berkhamsted.

Area of operation: Fundraising will take place in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. There will be occasional visits and meetings outside this area.

Professional development: The Head of Fundraising will be encouraged to undertake training and professional development activities in line with their duties and career aspirations.

Key requirements:

• Work with trustees and colleagues to develop organisational and fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets.

• Work closely with the charity’s communications, marketing and PR agency to manage the charity’s online presence including website and social media platforms and extend the charity’s audience reach to generate support for fundraising campaigns and events.

• Work with the fundraising team to deliver events and initiatives and build relationships to raise funds for the charity

• Build fundraising campaigns to gain support through direct marketing

• Deliver agreed fundraising strategies, business plans and budgets

• Drive, monitor and report on the progress of the fundraising strategy and budget

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 

1. IT RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Be the first point of contact for our externally contracted IT support team, to ensure all devices are maintained, updated, upgraded, and secured, including operating systems, security patches, antivirus, and endpoint protection. 

• Lead on all IT systems across the organisation, including hardware, software, networks, cloud-based systems, and user access. 

• Be our cyber security awareness champion and link with the external IT support team on any suspected cyber incidents, phishing attempts, data breaches, or system vulnerabilities. 

• Purchase, install and configure new IT equipment and software in line with organisational needs, budget, and security requirements. 

• Support staff with installing and using approved software and digital tools, providing guidance and basic training as required. 

• Maintain accurate IT documentation, including user access, licences, warranties, and renewal schedules. 

• Support business continuity from an IT perspective, ensuring systems resilience, backups, and disaster recovery arrangements are in place and tested. 

2. Resources and Core Business Administration  

• Lead on organisational resource management, including purchasing of equipment, supplies, and services, ensuring value for money and compliance with budgetary controls. 

• Maintain and update the Asset Register, ensuring all equipment is logged, tracked, and reviewed appropriately. 

• Provide administration to support the core business team including finance, health and safety contractors, insurance contracts

Help keep our day centre and night shelter for people experiencing homelessness run smoothly and effiiciently. 

About the role 

The Operations Coordinator will play an important role in the smooth running of the day centre and night shelter. Working with the Operations Lead, the post holder will secure a diverse and active cohort of volunteers able to fill all the necessary shifts, ensure the building is well maintained and manage the stock of necessary provisions so that guests are adequately provided for. We particularly welcome those with lived experience of homelessness who are able to bring their ‘expertise through experience’ to the role.

Key responsibilities:

Volunteers

• Work with the Operations Lead in the recruitment, training and onboarding of our volunteers, coordinating any relevant checks as required
• Manage volunteer rotas for all our projects: ensuring all shifts are filled in a timely fashion
• Contribute to our engagement with volunteers to ensure they have the best possible experience. This includes supporting the Operations Lead in managing the volunteer advisory group and the provision of training and development of volunteers
• Ensure the volunteer CRM system is kept up to date with all aspects of volunteer data and contribute ideas and actions to improve the process
• Contribute to regular volunteer communication including volunteer newsletters
• Contribute to reports for trustees and other stakeholders on our volunteers and their contribution to the smooth running of the centre.

Premises

• Timely reporting of any damage to the property, fixtures and fittings and liaising with the local authority and repair teams
• Undertake actions as required to ensure the health and safety of the premises, guests, staff, and volunteers. This includes fire alarm tests and fire drills, emergency lighting tests, acting as a fire warden, security alarm tests, and any other health and safety aspects of the premises.

Logistics and administration

• Undertake the ordering of food, stocking of food donations, and timely communications to volunteer cooks
• Ensure all costs are properly recorded and shared with our bookkeeper
• Undertake other administrative tasks as required.

Organisational engagement

• Contribute to organisational strategic planning and review of progress
• Contribute to the development of grant proposals and reporting as required
• Contribute to the development of relevant organisational policies and procedures
• Develop collaborative working relationships with all staff and volunteers.
