We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Benefits Adviser to join our Transitions team, providing personalised benefits advice and support to people in their own homes and communities across West Devon and Torridge. You will help people understand and access the benefits they are entitled to, maximise their household income and navigate what can often be complex and challenging benefit processes. Many of the people we support face barriers to accessing mainstream services, so the ability to build trust, listen and provide patient, practical support is at the heart of this role.
We are looking for someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills, a person-centred approach and a genuine commitment to supporting people experiencing vulnerability or financial hardship. Previous benefits advice experience would be an advantage, but we also welcome applications from people with transferable skills and the right values and aptitude to develop in the role. This is a rewarding role with the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the financial stability and wellbeing of people who may otherwise struggle to access the support they need.
Our vision is to eliminate social isolation and financial hardship.

Alongside leadership responsibilities, the postholder will manage a small caseload of complex clients, delivering FCA-regulated debt advice, welfare benefits advice, advocacy and holistic financial resilience support. They will provide guidance and oversight for complex casework, ensuring clients receive timely, flexible interventions tailored to their individual circumstances.
The Team Leader will champion Wis£rmoney’s relationship-based, trauma-informed approach, recognising that financial hardship rarely exists in isolation. By supporting staff to build trusted relationships with clients, remove barriers to engagement and address the wider issues affecting financial wellbeing, the role will help residents achieve sustainable financial stability, independence and resilience. The postholder will also be responsible for ensuring the service meets all contractual, regulatory and quality requirements, monitoring performance, driving continuous improvement and embedding innovative ways of working that enhance client outcomes while maintaining the personalised support that is central to the service model.

- Promote a positive, supportive team culture that prioritises staff wellbeing, continuous learning and high-quality client outcomes.
- Provide guidance and support on complex casework, safeguarding concerns and risk management.
- Lead by example, demonstrating relationship-based, trauma-informed approach to supporting people experiencing financial hardship.
Specialist Casework
- Manage a small caseload of clients with complex financial circumstances requiring specialist intervention.
- Deliver FCA-regulated debt advice, welfare benefits advice, budgeting support, income maximisation and advocacy.
