The role

This is a dual-focus role sitting right at the heart of how we deliver our impact. You'll lead our volunteer programme nationally; recruiting, training and supporting the coaches and volunteers who deliver our programmes, while also overseeing programme delivery across our London partner schools.

On the volunteer side, you'll manage the full volunteer journey from recruitment and DBS checks through to training, engagement and retention, and act as our organisation's DBS Lead. On the delivery side, you'll coordinate and deliver MyBigCareer programmes in London, acting as a key relationship holder for school partners and ensuring young people receive consistently high-quality careers guidance and employability support.

This is a hands-on role for someone equally comfortable with strategic coordination and direct delivery, who thrives in a close-knit, values-led small team.

About you

You'll bring experience in volunteer management, programme coordination or a similar role, ideally in the charity or education sector. You'll be a confident communicator, a natural relationship builder, and someone who cares deeply about equity and social mobility.

Essential experience and skills include:

• Experience managing or coordinating volunteers, ideally in a charity, education or community setting
• Experience coordinating or delivering programmes or projects with multiple stakeholders
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Confidence delivering workshops, training or presentations to groups
• Sound understanding of safeguarding principles
• Competent with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and CRM systems

They are currently looking to recruit 2 Bereavement Support Managers to oversee the delivery of their On Demand Bereavement Support Service.

As Bereavement Support Manager, you will oversee the effective and efficient running of the charity’s On Demand Bereavement Support Service which includes Helpline, Live Chat and ASK email. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating a small team of staff and volunteers (all working on a remote basis) and will ensure the service is adequately staffed to provide on demand support services when required. In addition to line managing the On Demand Bereavement Specialists, the post holder will also work as part of the delivery rota in order to support the team directly, provide real-time guidance, and cover frontline services gaps. This blended role combines hands-on leadership, active service participation, and quality assurance, promoting excellent clinical standards, safeguarding practice, and a culture of learning and care.

To be considered for this role, you will have extensive experience of working with children, young people, and families in either a bereavement or similar field at managerial level, and will have a significant awareness and knowledge of the emotional and psychological impact of bereavement and loss. You will have a Level 5 Foundation Degree, HND or Diploma of Higher Education as well as a current registration with a professional body (i.e. HCPC, BACP, UKCP, ACP). Working closely with the Fundraising Manager, this role will be vital in achieving our fundraising strategy and income targets. Now is a really exciting time for Solace as we embark on a fresh organisational strategy backed by a new and ambitious fundraising strategy. You’ll be part of a friendly, collaborative and high‑achieving team, with opportunities to get involved across all fundraising activities, including helping to grow Solace’s high‑value fundraising from corporates, trusts and foundations, and major donors.

You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, knowledge and confidence across key fundraising streams, including special events, digital fundraising, trusts and foundations, community and challenge events, and corporate partnerships.This will be a varied role in a fast-paced environment, suited to someone looking to take the next step in their fundraising career.

You’ll contribute to the wider objectives of the Business Development Team, particularly within Fundraising, by helping to build strong relationships and partnerships, raise the organisation’s profile and income, and work collaboratively with colleagues.

About You

The successful candidate will bring proven experience in delivering community fundraising, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences across a range of formats. They will have knowledge of developing social media content and producing branded publicity materials, as well as strong organisational and project management skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

The role requires confidence with IT systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and CRM databases, with experience of Salesforce and creative design tools such as Canva being desirable. A strong understanding of, and commitment to, equity, diversity and inclusion, particularly within the context of the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector, is essential. The postholder will be committed to continuous learning and professional development and will be able to work both independently and collaboratively, using initiative and sound judgement as part of a team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The lead and deliver integrated communications that build the charity’s profile, deepen engagement and support income generation. This role will develop compelling narratives, manage key channels, and ensure consistent, high-quality messaging across all audiences.
