Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, registered nurse to support and lead our nursing unit in the absence of the Unit Manager or Deputy Unit Manager. The post holder will provide high-quality, person-centred care to residents, promote professional standards, and ensure a collaborative, supportive environment for residents, families, and staff. This role includes clinical leadership, staff supervision, and contribution to practice development in line with NMC regulations and Nightingale policies.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

• Act as the lead nurse in the absence of the Unit Manager/Deputy, ensuring the smooth operation of the unit.

• Support with rota planning, staff deployment, and management of nursing teams.

Whipps Cross Hospital ED (Emergency Department)

About St Giles

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others. 

St Giles is expanding its delivery of hospital-based projects; this service is aimed at vulnerable 10 to 25-year-olds who attend the adult or paediatric emergency department or Urgent Care Centre at Whipps Cross ED. We will work alongside hospital staff to proactively identify vulnerable young people and help them to access and engage the support they need to prevent any potential escalation of violence and reduce the risk of repeat victimisation or exploitation.

About this key role

You will be part of the Whipps Cross ED Team meeting CYP (Children and Young People) at the point of presentation to the ED to offer support, which is a person centred with the aims to safeguard and reduce risk around the CYP. This support extends post-discharge from the ED or Hospital with our Caseworkers working with the CYP and the professional networks to ensure the CYP voice is front and centre, this is to support the betterment of the CYP and their future, as well as reducing risks. This is done through providing 121 support in formulating the support plan with the CYP. This can also include supporting the family and advocating for them and CYP within the wider professional network.

We actively encourage people with personal experience of the criminal justice system or lived experience of the issues facing this client group to apply for this role.

What we are looking for:

• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families
• Experience of assessing risk and implementing safety procedures when thinking about children and young people involved in or at risk of violence or exploitation
• Proven experience of working in a high-intensity environment, with an ability to effectively manage your own wellbeing

As an Assistant Community Shop Manager (ACSM) for St Giles Hospice you will take lead when the Community Shop Manager is away, ensuring smooth operations and delivering excellent customer service. The estate includes 26 shops and e-commerce operation with a turnover of approx. £3.5million which supports the overall income generation strategy.

Reporting to the Strategic Lead for Sanctuary & Racial Justice, you’ll coordinate existing Welcome Hubs in Canterbury and help launch new hubs in Folkestone, Ashford and Dover. Working with churches, volunteers, councils and community partners, you’ll strengthen local sanctuary, deliver racial justice training and develop practical tools that embed justice into everyday ministry.

This is an exciting, hands-on, people-centric role with so much variety — part community development, part volunteer leadership, as well as a mixture of training and partnership working.

We’re looking for someone with experience of supporting vulnerable people and working with volunteers, a good understanding of racial justice in practice and strong organisational and communication skills. You’ll be confident working across communities, able to manage multiple priorities and be motivated by seeing people and parishes flourish.

You’ll need to be a practising Christian, have the right to work in the UK, have a full, clean driving licence and the ability to travel across Kent and comfortable working flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.

The Canterbury Diocesan Board of Finance employs this role on behalf of the Social Justice Network (SJN), a UK-based charity that works to promote social justice, inclusion and support for vulnerable communities. One of SJN’s key initiatives is the Sanctuary & Racial Justice Programme, which works with local authorities, charities and community groups to support and integrate refugee families into their communities. 

The Social Justice Network aims to bring people together. Issues such as low income, debt, lack of skills, poor mental health, forced displacement and isolation are closely interlinked, trapping individuals and communities in cycles of poverty. Our vision is for all churches, in every community, to work together to tackle these issues through action, prayer and giving.

Our Sanctuary & Racial Justice Programmes help individuals and families rebuild their lives after forced displacement. Services include Welcome Hubs, Arts and Wellbeing activities, ESOL classes, employment support and casework. We focus on fostering long-term, meaningful connections with local church communities to restore stability, dignity and belonging.

The People Team at ARUK is undergoing a transformation that will position it brilliantly to enable the successful delivery of the organisation’s strategy. Key Responsibilities:

· Lead the creation of an employee experience map across the entire employee journey and use workforce insight to understand the current experience of colleagues.

· Design, implement and embed a continuous learning approach to regularly gather employee insight and feedback to inform the People strategy and design of people initiatives and products.

· Implement an engagement platform to regularly measure employee engagement and sentiment and develop a simple framework that leaders and managers can use to act on the insight.

· Using data and workforce insight create employee persona’s to facilitate targeted, tailored people-centric interventions that will enable delivery of the organisation’s strategy.

· Use design thinking approaches to redesign people products and build this capability within people team

· Support with OKR setting and prioritisation of work based on insight

· Bring thought leadership and emerging concepts in employee experience into ARUK and the People Team, and review benchmarking data and insight to suggest improvements and enhancements.

· Map the employee value proposition and develop the employer brand alongside the Resourcing Team to attract talent to ARUK.

· Assess leadership and management practices and wider people practices and policies and their impact on the employee experience

· Create inclusive approaches that positively impact engagement from the start through to end of the employment journey 

What we are looking for:

Knowledge, skills and experience needed:

· Knowledge and experience of developing a continuous listening approach and embedding tools and platforms to gather regular employee insights and improve engagement.

· Experience of customer and employee journey mapping to be able to identify moments that matter and understand pain points to drive improvements.

· Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical data concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.

· Excellent communication skills to be able to engage and build relationships with colleagues at all levels.

· Strong understanding of the employee lifecycle and people processes and practices and demonstrable experience of assessing gaps and working with people practitioners to develop initiatives to drive improvement.

The Role

As CEO, you will lead the UK team of Together We Learn and work in close partnership with the Ethiopian team, providing guidance and support to enable them to deliver programmes to a high standard. You will provide overall leadership for the charity, with responsibility for fundraising and stakeholder engagement, oversight of programmes, and management of finance and operations.

The annual turnover of Together We Learn is £350,000, and you will be responsible for line managing two staff in the UK and occasional interns, as well as supporting our Ethiopian partner, who has 15 programme and 8 support staff working across two regional offices: Gondar in the Amhara region and Addis Ababa in the Oromia region. The charity is managed by an experienced board of 5 trustees who meet quarterly and provide ad hoc support in their professional areas of expertise.

The charity is in a stable position with funds secured for the current year and a fundraising plan in place for the year ahead. You will have a detailed handover to enable you to carry out the varied functions required by the role and will be supported in these by the Programmes Manager and Sponsorship Coordinator. You will report to the board on a quarterly basis.

Our current three-year strategy focuses on building the capacity of our Ethiopian partner so that they can take a greater role in leading the organisation. This runs through our approach in all aspects of our work, and specific targets have been identified to help us achieve this goal over the strategic period. Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Line manage the Programmes Manager, Sponsorship Coordinator and interns.

Deliver High Quality Programmes

• Monitor delivery of activity plans related to projects, sponsorship and school linking.

Finance and Operations Management

• Steward Together We Learn’s finances, including reconciling accounts, managing the finance database and tracking performance against the forecast and fundraising plan.
• Due diligence checks on Ethiopian partner finances.
• Prepare annual accounts for examination and develop the annual report for Charity Commission submission.
• Governance duties and other finance admin.

Fundraising

• Reporting and applications to trusts and foundations.
• Stewardship of donors and fundraisers.

Person Specification

This role requires someone with excellent time management and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have experience managing teams in a development or small charity environment, as well as significant experience managing finance systems, fundraising and having oversight of multiple programmes.

Essential Experience & Competencies

• Energetic and self-motivated individual who shares our mission.
• 3+ years of team leadership or experience in a senior management role directly responsible for staff and high-level reporting. Ability to provide positive, hands-on leadership to a small team of experienced and motivated individuals.
• 3+ years of financial management, including full-cost budgeting, tracking and reconciling finances, and reporting against forecasts and spending plans.
• 3+ years of proven experience in fundraising, a successful track record of securing and reporting on significant grants as well as maintaining positive funder relations.
• Experience working overseas in an international development or education context or working closely with overseas partners in the same sectors.
• A practical, collaborative and adaptable approach with good problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
• Strong and adaptable communication skills, both written and verbal, to support sensitive cross-cultural working and inspire funders and supporters.
• Fluency with MS Office programs, gmail and shared drives.

Desirable Experience & Competencies

• Lived experience of Ethiopia, or of a comparable context, such as the Horn of Africa or East Africa, or a strong personal or professional connection to Habesha or other African cultures.
• Degree or master’s in international development, or similar field of study.

• Project delivery or programme management experience, especially in a small charity, international development or education context.
• Experience reporting directly to board level.
• Experience increasing online engagement or driving new donor recruitment.
