That said, due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be expected to schedule annual leave outside of key payroll processing periods, to ensure continuity and accuracy in payroll delivery.
About us
Advance is an award-winning and innovative women-only organisation, established in 1998, providing emotional and practical support to women and girls survivors of domestic abuse and supporting women with short-term sentences to reduce offending. We believe in empowering women and girls to lead safe, non-violent, equal lives so that they can flourish and contribute to the community.
We are a community-based organisation who lead in best practice approaches to supporting women in their local community. We achieve this by being available to meet and support women in local settings and at our women’s centres, and by working in close partnership with other agencies.
Our values are to listen and support, to empower and respect, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
About the role:
Are you a detail-driven professional with a passion for precision and people?
We are seeking a Payroll Officer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in ensuring every payslip is accurate and delivered on time. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process, working closely with our external payroll provider to ensure the accurate and timely payment of all employees each month.
You will process monthly payroll, including manual calculations for overtime, variable hours, complex work patterns, and compressed hours, while ensuring correct application of cost codes for payroll expenditure. The role involves administering statutory and company payments such as sick pay, maternity pay, and other relevant entitlements, as well as processing adjustments for new starters, leavers, promotions, and contract variations.
You will also play an important part in supporting the procurement and implementation of a new payroll provider and software, ensuring compliance with all pay-related legislation, HMRC regulations, and internal policies. It would be advantageous to have experience managing complex pay calculations such as compressed hours, overtime, and varying pay structures, as well as familiarity with pensions administration and HMRC reporting. Strong organisational and time management skills, together with proficiency in IT - particularly Excel - and experience using FMP or Staffology payroll software, would also be highly desirable.
How to apply:
Please submit your up-to-date CV with a supporting statement. Please note that only applications made via the job advert on the Advance careers page, and those that include a cover letter, will be considered.
*Advance reserves the right to close the advert early, or on the appointment of a candidate

GoodWork is a youth employment and social mobility charity, creating fairer opportunities for young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. This is an exciting opportunity to join GoodWork at a pivotal moment in our growth. Founded in 2022, we’re a fast-growing organisation with real impact and big ambitions to drive systemic change for the community we serve.
About the role
This is a key strategic hire for GoodWork. As our Operations Manager, you'll play a central role in how the organisation runs, grows and delivers impact. Reporting directly to our CEO and joining our Leadership Team, you'll bring structure, pace and clarity across GoodWork, helping turn our strategy into effective day-to-day delivery.
You'll be the only person at GoodWork dedicated full-time to operations - plugged in to what's happening across every team, helping the CEO, trustees and staff connect the dots and making sure GoodWork runs coherently and efficiently. This is a broad, stretching role, but as we’re a small organisation, a lot of the job is rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck into the work yourself, and we're looking for someone who finds real satisfaction in both the bigger picture and the detail.
You'll have real ownership and influence across the organisation, including:
We’re a small team, which means we need everyone to pick up some admin. For this role, this will include managing our Shared Mailbox, processing DBS checks and keeping the office well stocked and organised. As GoodWork grows, we expect this role - and the wider operations function - to grow and evolve too, including the potential to build a small team around you in time.
As our first Operations Manager, you'll be building this function from the ground up. We'll work with you to prioritise what matters most, but we'll also expect you to bring initiative, judgement and high standards from the start.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who's excited by the chance to help build the operational engine of a growing, ambitious charity - someone who enjoys making organisations work better, brings structure, judgement and pace, holds a high bar for quality and follow-through, and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get things done.
You'll need to be a self-starter with a proactive, hands-on attitude who wants to get stuck in and solve problems as they arise. You don't need to have experience solving every issue that comes up, but you should be a generalist at heart, comfortable with uncertainty and learning as you go. A growth mindset is essential.
Just as important as your experience will be how you work. We're looking for someone who's motivated by mission, energised by growth and comfortable playing a visible, trusted role at the heart of the organisation. You won't need experience in the early careers, youth or education sector, but you will need to connect with GoodWork's purpose and show real commitment to helping us increase opportunity for young people from underserved communities.
We work with a diverse group of young people from underserved communities. We particularly encourage applications from minoritised ethnic candidates and those who have lived experience relevant to our programme, particularly non-graduates and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

As the UK network for organisations working in international development, we bring together more than 300 civil society organisations united by a shared ambition: to tackle poverty, inequality and injustice around the world. We champion the sector, influence policy, strengthen organisations and create the connections that enable our members to achieve greater impact together.

The Opportunity

This role is for someone who can help us grow our reputation while giving our staff and volunteers the support they need to continue providing the best possible care for our animals.
What will you be doing?
You will guide the charity's strategy and drive a period of transformation, ensuring our operations are effective, fully compliant, and set up for long-term sustainability. Your leadership is about ensuring that our strategy, finances, and operations all serve to give our animals the best possible chance of recovery and a loving, forever home.
To achieve this, the role is structured around three key areas of focus:
