Prisoners Abroad is a unique UK charity supporting people affected by overseas imprisonment. We provide vital practical and emotional support to individuals in prison overseas, those returning to the UK, and their families.
We are now looking for a qualified Counsellor or Psychotherapist to join us on a consultancy basis, supporting a new Mental Health Support after Imprisonment Abroad project.
About the role
Self-Employed Counsellor Consultant
Self-employed consultancy opportunity with a commitment of 2 days per week and delivered face to face from our office in Finsbury Park, London N4.
Fee: £37,800 for a commitment of two days per week over 84 weeks of this project, running from August 2026 to April 2028. This is a self-employed consultancy arrangement and does not constitute employment. The appointed practitioner will be engaged under a contract for services submit invoices.
We are looking for a self-employed counsellor or psychotherapist who can provide structured therapeutic support, contribute clinical insight to an emerging model of support, and work collaboratively with our resettlement team within a clear framework for referral, safeguarding, record-keeping and review. Key responsibilities
- Deliver short-term, structured one-to-one counselling (typically up to six sessions per client)
- Provide trauma-informed support tailored to individual needs and experiences
- Facilitate group wellbeing sessions where appropriate
- Develop wellbeing and onward support plans with clients
- Work closely with the resettlement team to manage referrals and client support
- Contribute to service development and best practice

About you
Essential
- Qualified counsellor or psychotherapist (Level 4 or above)

About the Role
As a IDVA you will provide high quality support to victims of domestic violence and abuse. You will deliver and provide support in five key areas to support victims to:
- Feel safer
- Feel informed about their rights and the criminal justice system
- Feel listened to and heard
- Be able to implement healthy coping mechanisms
- Be connected with services who are available to help them
Key Responsibilities
As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate you will:
- provide appropriate non-therapeutic support to victims of domestic abuse via their preferred contact method.
- undertake needs and risk assessments to develop tailored individual safety and support plans to address the specific needs of the victim.
- use a bespoke case management system to maintain accurate and confidential record keeping and contribute to the collection of outcomes.
- liaise with the police, social services, CPS, and other agencies on the client's behalf, with the client's consent maintaining confidentiality
- provide information to victims to enable them to make informed choices about their future options. Ensuring that the voices, needs, rights and legal entitlements of older people are heard and understood by all individuals and organisations.
About You:
Ideally, you will hold an approved and accredited IDVA qualification (or you must be willing to work towards one)
You will need:
- A strong understanding of domestic abuse and violence and the impact this has on victims.
- Experience of working with victims of crime (preferably domestic abuse) including completing risk assessments and safety planning
- Experience of managing a caseload and keeping clear case management records.
- Experience of adapting communication styles to be able to effectively communicate.
- An understanding of trauma informed practice and how to implement this within your work
- A through understanding of the criminal justice system and the Victim's Code
- An understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and other legal requirements
- Good IT skills including experience with working within bespoke case management systems and using Microsoft Office Packages.
- Organised and methodical approach to work with the ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload

Where you’ll work
Our level 2 pathway provides semi-independent accommodation and housing related support to people who may have complex needs, including multiple challenges such as physical and mental health issues, substance use and a history of trauma. We are dedicated to providing a safe, high quality and inclusive service to people while they are living in supported accommodation, and a positive move-on into independent housing.
Our residents are male and female living in shared and self-contained properties.
What we’re looking for
Our Apprentice scheme is specifically designed for people with lived experience, and we can only offer places to the people the programme is designed for.
You may have personally experienced homelessness (spent time sleeping rough, or lived in a hostel, refuge or supported accommodation), you may have experienced domestic abuse, mental health struggles, substance misuse problems or had contact with the criminal justice system and have used recovery services as a result.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Night Engagement Worker to join the team in Catford. You will support within the Offender Personality Disorder Housing Accommodation to support in successfully rehabilitating and reintegrating our residents and participants back into the community. The service delivers support for people in the criminal justice system who are deemed high risk, and likely to meet criteria for personality disorder. Penrose OPD HASS service offers specialist accommodation to people with high risk/high needs and require intensive support to overcome barriers to resettlement and progress towards independent living in the community.
You will assist with those who have recently been released from prison, secure health settings, or are transitioning from Approved Premises. Your role will involve supporting all aspects of key engagement activities, aiding their rehabilitation, reablement, and reintegration into society by providing pathways, support, and appropriate interventions, that will enable successful resettlements and work with internal and external partners and agencies to achieve desired outcomes.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Support residents who may be facing challenges with substance misuse, helping them take positive steps forward.
- Creating one to one person centred support plans to support residents in achieving their goals.
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents at all times during the shift, including regular check ins and carrying our protocols.
- Planning activities to engage residents with other people, communities, and opportunities during the evening which may include movie nights and games nights.
- Lone working is part of the role, but you’ll always have a supportive team around.
- Be a valued and reliable member of the team, completing handovers for day colleagues for a seamless service.

Debt Justice is recruiting a Community Organiser to take forward our organising and campaign work in East and South London. This role plays a key part in the campaign to end the UK’s household debt crisis.
The UK is in the grip of a household debt crisis, driven by stagnating incomes, cuts to welfare and a cost of living crisis that forces millions of people into debt to pay for essentials. Over 10 million people are overindebted, with energy bills, council tax arrears and credit card debt approaching record highs. In London this problem is particularly acute, more than half of low-income Londoners are grappling with arrears according to Joseph Rowntree Foundation research. Debt also functions as a key driver of racialised health inequality and injustice. Over-indebtedness affects 28% of Londoners of Black African origin, 24% of Black Caribbean origin, and 22% of Pakistani or Bangladeshi origin.
We believe that campaigns to tackle this injustice should be led by people with direct experience of the problem, that’s why we developed a community organising programme as a core part of our household debt work. Our organisers have supported community based campaign groups made up people with lived experience of debt. From Glasgow to Manchester, these groups campaign for policy changes to bring down over-indebtedness and end the stigma and harmful treatment of people experiencing high levels of debt.
This role will support the development of a new group in South London working with people from global majority communities including black and brown communities – in Lambeth or Southwark, and an existing group in East London based in Tower Hamlets focusing on tackling the rise in council tax debt and bailiff use to collect these debts.
Reporting into our Lead Organiser, this role will play a key part in our household debt campaign; bringing together people from global majority communities that are disproportionately affected to challenge over-indebtedness and bailiff use at a local level and as part of our national and regional campaigns. You will support participants to demand and win policy change to end the use of bailiffs for council tax debt collection.
We recognise that community organising skills are often developed outside of formal roles. If you have experience in organising, campaigns, activism, mutual aid, or informal leadership in your community, we strongly encourage you to apply – even if you have not held a community organiser job title before.

Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led learning programmes at HMP Eastwood Park. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.

About this role:
Care Not Custody is an intervention service in partnership with Sussex Police and Probation, to divert women away from the criminal justice system, by offering case work support through an Out of Court disposal (OOCD) or intervention to prevent a breach of their probation order.
Care Not Custody encourages frontline Police Officers to consider an OOCD in cases where they would normally have charged a woman. Currently, women who receive a Conditional Caution or Community Resolution do not have access to a women specific service in Sussex. Women who agree to the condition will be referred to BWC by Sussex Police for casework support, diverting them away from the formal criminal justice system into a holistic support package.
Care Not Custody works closely with Probation Officers to identify women who are at risk or in breach of their community order or license agreement and offer interventions to encourage women to re-engage. Care Not Custody staff attend Breach Court to meet with women who are listed in breach, staff work with the women to empower reengagement with their community orders.
The Care Not Custody Caseworker will provide holistic, integrated casework support for women in Sussex, supporting women to navigate and access the services they require to address a range of practical and emotional needs, including helping with signposting, advocacy, and referrals. They will be informed by BWC’s values, policies and procedures and will understand the importance of building trust and self-esteem with service users, to enhance recovery and engagement with BWC and other services while completing all reporting requirements on the BWC database.
Working hours: This is a full time (35 hours per week) role, but we will consider flexible options depending on service delivery requirements. Working hours are within normal office hours, 9am-5pm. Occasional out of hours may be required.

Overview of role
The UK Casework Lead is responsible both for a personal caseload and for the supervision, output, quality and revenue performance of RLS's UK legal team of three frontline caseworkers. We are looking for a qualified solicitor who is also IAAS accredited at Supervising Senior Caseworker level, qualifying ideally to supervise both the Immigration and Asylum and the Public Law contracts. The post holder will also hold the role of authorised litigator.
The postholder will be expected to generate legal aid income at a level that covers their own gross salary cost, and to lead the team's growth in legal aid billings against an agreed annual target.

Many of the women you will work with will have experienced trauma, domestic abuse, poor mental health, homelessness, substance misuse, family separation, and other complex challenges.
You will:
- Build trusting relationships with women whilst they are in custody.
- Assess individual needs and develop person-centred support plans.
- Support women to prepare for release and reintegration into their communities.
- Link women into local Women’s Centres, housing providers, and specialist support services.
- Work closely with prison staff, probation, housing providers and community organisations.
- Provide practical and emotional support before and immediately after release where required.
- Advocate on behalf of women to ensure they can access the services and support they need.
This role requires someone who can combine empathy, resilience and strong professional boundaries while working in a challenging but highly rewarding environment.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about supporting women and understands the challenges faced by those involved in the criminal justice system.
You will ideally have:
- Experience of supporting vulnerable adults with complex needs.
- Experience in advocacy, support work, case management or related roles.
- An understanding of trauma-responsive and strengths-based approaches.
- Knowledge of issues affecting women involved in the criminal justice system.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
- A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Do you have a heart to see positive change in the lives of people who are trying to make a new start in the community after prison or a community sentence, and a genuine belief in their ability to make such changes? Do you have experience of working in the criminal justice environment?
At South West Community Chaplaincy (SWCC) our aim is to provide effective care and community support for people going through the Criminal Justice System, including prison. This includes work such as advocacy, mentoring and holistic support to assist the integration of people with convictions into their communities, within the counties of Devon, Cornwall and western Somerset.
We are looking for a committed and motivated individual who will strengthen our team of Community Chaplains to work with people both in custody and in the community. The key functions of the role are:
o High-quality client-centred, relational mentoring, ensuring that it is trauma informed, solution focused and relevant for those serving, or who have served, custodial or community sentences in order that they would be successfully resettled in their local communities, within the counties of Cornwall, Devon and western Somerset.
o Manage and support volunteer mentors as they support our clients
o To help facilitate and assist faith communities in the peninsula to become more proactive partners with prisons, probation, police, Youth Justice Board and other agencies, in working towards the successful resettlement of people who have convictions.
The post is a permanent part time role.
There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under the Equality Act 2010 for applicants to actively embrace the Christian faith ethos and values of SWCC, and to be able to promote an environment where people of all faiths, and people of none, can work together for the transformation of lives and communities. The successful applicant will have the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people, from aged 15 to 80! Flexible Homeworking is possible by agreement. The role entails a significant amount of travel, and some occasional weekend and evening work will be involved.
