The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is recruiting a small number of assessors to join an existing assessment team for the Turing Programme - an outward education and training mobility programme funded and overseen by the UK Department for Education. The Turing programme enables learners in schools, colleges and universities to access international study and work opportunities and delivers transformative opportunities for individuals and communities across the UK.

The ACU works with a network of external assessors to assess applications and appeals from institutions in the Schools, Further Education/Vocational Education and Training and Higher Education sectors in the UK and British Overseas Territories. This is a unique opportunity to make a major contribution to a leading global mobility programme. The Turing programme will operate in Academic Year 2026/27 and are recruiting to be ready should the programme go ahead. 

We are seeking assessors for the Schools and Further Education/Vocational Education and Training sectors only. 

Assessors will be responsible for evaluating applications against the programme criteria. We are keen to welcome applicants from all four UK countries - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - to reflect the diverse and devolved nature of UK education and training. 

Assessors must possess sector-specific knowledge of one or more of the sectors being recruited, and a solid track record of conducting high-quality, independent assessments for local, national or international agencies. You will also have substantial experience at a middle or senior management level in the UK Schools or FE/VET sectors, and the ability to produce concise, effective written feedback. We are also keen to hear from applicants with experience in both sectors. 

Comprehensive, compulsory training will be provided to all successful applicants in March 2026, should the programme be confirmed for this year. Appointed assessors who complete the training will be paid a maximum of one day’s assessment rate as a contribution to their time spent undertaking the training.

Assessors will each be required to commit to the equivalent of approximately 2 - 2.5 days’ assessment work (16-20 hours) per week throughout the 6-week assessment window, which we anticipate will take place throughout March and April 2026 (subject to confirmation). This equates to 4 applications in one day (i.e. 8 applications over 2 days, 10 applications over 2.5 days). Assessors will be paid £340 for each full day of completed assessments (4 applications) or a pro-rated amount for each assessment (quarter day). This rate is inclusive of feedback consolidation and of any supplementary review or reassessment that may be needed as the result of a quality check or moderation.

Additional assessment days within the assessment window may be offered to those with capacity to do more, depending on the number of funding applications received. We also reserve the right to appoint reserve assessors in case of substantially increased demand. Being appointed is no guarantee of any paid work.

Eligibility

In order to be an assessor, applicants should: 

• Not be currently employed by the Association of Commonwealth Universities

• Not have been employed by the Association of Commonwealth Universities since 2020

• Hold a UK bank account registered in their own name or business name. Nominated bank accounts will not be accepted and payment will be in sterling.

• Be living in the UK and have the right to work in the UK

• Have satisfactory references

Key tasks

• Understanding and applying the assessment criteria: assessors will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of the programme’s objectives, and assessment criteria, applying these consistently, fairly and transparently to all applications ensuring that these are consistently applied and adhered to. 

• Assessment of applications: completing the specified number of assessments to the programme’s quality standards and within the agreed timeframe and responding to any follow-up from the ACU secretariat in a timely manner.

• Scoring and feedback: completing the reporting template and feedback on applications, scoring each question against the evidence provided and constructing and consolidating meaningful feedback; revisiting and, where necessary, re-assessing applications or specific questions under the guidance of the relevant Senior Assessor. 

• Advice and insight: providing advice and insight on the quality of applications and the management of the process with recommendations for improvement. 

Skills and experience: Essential 

• Sector-specific expertise: demonstrable sector-specific knowledge and expertise of one or more of the sectors being recruited to (Schools or Further Education/Vocational Education and Training), and substantial experience at middle or senior management level in one or more of these sectors in the UK, and experience of working in education and training in one or more of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We are also keen to hear from applicants with experience in both sectors.

• Assessment or evaluation experience: extensive experience of conducting high-quality, high-stakes independent assessments and/or evaluations for local, national or international agencies in an education and training context. 

• Delivery: a clear track record of managing multiple priorities whilst meeting tight deadlines and exacting quality standards to get the job done. This also includes the ability to analyse written and numerical information and produce concise, impactful written feedback. 

Skills and experience: Desirable 

• Experience of working in international education and training mobility programmes.

• Involvement in regular community-based activity, e.g. voluntary work, community engagement and charity work.

Purpose

Horatio’s Garden is a nationwide charity creating and nurturing beautifully designed gardens in NHS’s spinal injury centres.

The Patient Experience Manager will be instrumental in supporting patients and families use of the garden. 

Along with the Head Gardener, you will be responsible for the smooth running of a thriving, vibrant garden ensuring the patient and their family are appropriately supported throughout their time in the spinal unit. 

This role requires you to manage a team of volunteers and work closely with the Head Gardener who maintains the horticultural standard of the garden and delivers therapeutic horticulture sessions.  You will be managed by the National Patient Experience Lead.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with clinical and non-clinical NHS staff, corporate sponsors, funders, the Fundraising team, the Communications team and the National Patient Experience Manager. 

The gardens have been beautifully designed and maintained, and the role of the garden needs to reflect an appropriate environment for patients and their families at all stages of their stay.  From the initial welcome, to ensuring the contact and relationship is consistent with activities to suit their needs.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering social activities, supported by the charity’s National Patient Experience Manager and in collaboration with the wider Spinal Injuries team in Cardiff. These activities will mainly need to be held at the weekend or in the afternoons which are critical times in the garden when most patients are available and often have friends and family to visit. Currently the Events programme includes seasonal celebrations and social and craft activities. External facilitators also deliver workshops and live music performances.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident, proactive individual who is efficient, well organised and has outstanding communication and relationship building skills. You will need to be adaptable and friendly and confident working with a wide range of people including people with spinal injuries and their families, NHS staff, volunteers and many different teams within the charity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

People with spinal injuries

· Develop relationships with patients and families to ensure the best experience for them in the garden at every stage of their stay

· Maintain a consistent social and arts activity programme appropriate for the current patient group, liaising with the National Patient Experience Manager and managing the volunteers accordingly

· Organise a programme of seasonal events, reflecting the needs of patients

· Work with the Impact Manager to monitor patient experience and the impact of the garden

·       Ensure the garden is managed to allow the correct balance to be in place to benefit both patients and external parties (major donors, trusts, corporate groups and other visitors)

NHS staff

· Develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with NHS clinical teams and voluntary services

Volunteers

· Recruitment and training of new volunteers

· Manage the team of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the garden with patient experience at its core

Fundraising and Communications

· Work with fundraising managers, Head Gardener and volunteers to develop opportunities to generate income in the garden through friends, corporate friends and third-party fundraising

· Support corporate sponsor events and fundraising opportunities

· Represent the garden and charity at key events

· Promote the local social media accounts and provide regular updates for content

Administrative

This role is part of the Connexional Team Learning Network, supporting, encouraging, and equipping the Church to live out ‘Our Calling’ through worship, mission, evangelism and discipleship. The Learning Network primarily works with lay and ordained leaders, helping them equip others.

This post contributes to Connexional-wide learning and development initiatives, and is specifically aligned with the Wales Synod Cymru District as the Welsh speaking Learning and Development Officer (LDO) and the new West Midlands District following the merger of the current Birmingham District and the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District on 1st September 2025. Wales Synod Cymru is a bilingual District of 16 circuits, including the Welsh language Cymru Circuit which covers the whole of Wales, and the West Midlands District has 20 circuits across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the Black Country, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. Both districts are diverse in terms of population groupings and serve communities in rural, market towns, suburbs and city centre settings.

The Role

We are looking for an Evaluation & Research Officer to join our Data and Impact team at STEM Learning. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our programmes and projects are evaluated effectively, realistically, and in line with best practice, enabling us to demonstrate impact and continuously improve our offer.

Working closely with programme management colleagues, you will design and implement evaluations, ensuring relevant data is collected, analysed and interpreted. You will produce clear, high-quality outputs for both internal and external audiences, supporting learning, accountability, and impact reporting.

You will also contribute to external evaluations, liaising with external evaluators where required, and help embed evidence-informed practice across the organisation. A key part of the role is sourcing, reviewing and synthesising external research and sector evidence to strengthen STEM Learning’s evaluation approaches, findings and impact claims.

Close‑Knit Families is looking for a caring, community‑minded colleague to join us as a Project Support Worker for The Village. The Village is a 12‑month pilot in Redcar & Cleveland, offering free, welcoming spaces for parents and babies during pregnancy and the first postnatal year. It focuses on strengthening parent–baby relationships, supporting wellbeing, and promoting positive child development through pre‑birth workshops and stay‑and‑play sessions.

Role Summary 

The Project Support Worker will work closely with and be line managed by the Project Lead to deliver The Village pilot project. You will support the delivery of pre‑birth workshops and weekly stay‑and‑play drop‑ins, engaging and supporting parents and babies. Additional hours can be worked flexibly and will include promotion and outreach, monitoring and evaluation, administration, and supporting fundraising activities. 

This is a hands‑on role, ideal for someone with experience in early years practice, community engagement, or family support, who can work flexibly, including some evenings. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Session delivery: Support weekly daytime drop‑ins and co‑deliver three evening sessions per month, including preparing resources, setting up, and packing down. 

• Family engagement: Welcome families, build rapport, facilitate play and activities, provide support, and signpost to local services. 

• Promotion and outreach: Assist with promotional materials, social media updates, and community outreach to recruit participants. 

• Monitoring and evaluation: Collect attendance data, support surveys and feedback, and contribute to case studies and observational notes. 

• Administration: Maintain participant records, manage session resources, and support basic budgeting and ordering. 

• Safeguarding and wellbeing: Follow safeguarding procedures, complete required checks, and help ensure a safe, inclusive environment. 

• Partnership working: Support liaison with Redcar Baptist Church and local services to coordinate referrals and joint activities. 

• Fundraising: Assist Close‑Knit Families with fundraising activities. 

Person Specification 

Essential 

• A desire to support newborn families and an understanding of why this matters. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse families and work well with colleagues and partners. 

• Ability to communicate information in a warm, empathetic, and non‑judgemental way. 

• Awareness of safeguarding and appropriate actions where concerns arise. 

• Reliable, organised, and able to work independently within a small team. 

• Ability to use basic Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and work confidently on a computer or laptop. 

• Alignment with our mission, vision, and values. 

• Willingness to attend training, supervision, and reflective practice. 

• Enhanced DBS (transferable or new DBS required). 

Desirable 

• Experience working with parents, babies, early years, or community settings. 

• Lived experience as a parent or carer, or equivalent responsibility for children aged 0–5. 

• Experience in administrative or similar roles. 

• Level 2/GCSE English qualification. 

• Experience with monitoring and evaluation tools or simple survey platforms. 

• Experience with social media or community promotion. 

• Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline (education, social care, early help, voluntary sector).
