Job description

About CodeYourFuture

At CodeYourFuture (CYF), we believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. We are a non-profit community that trains adults from underrepresented backgrounds and low-income individuals to launch successful careers in the tech industry.

Our model relies on a passionate, self-organising ecosystem of professionals, trainees, and graduates. As our Community Builder, you will be the beating heart of your regional community, empowering trainees, volunteers, and alumni to unite around CYF’s shared mission.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a community leader who understands grassroots engagement, human agency, and systemic change.

In this mid-level role, you will build and cultivate an empowering, open, and highly collaborative regional community. You will ensure every member, from a first-time mentor to an alum, understands their unique impact in helping trainees secure quality, sustainable tech jobs.

How You’ll Drive Impact

  • Foster Volunteer Ownership:Recruit, onboard, and retain skilled tech and non-tech professionals, enabling them to deliver high-value volunteering whilst continually developing their skills
  • Empower Trainee Agency: Build a safe, transparent, and motivating environment where trainees take active ownership of their learning and community responsibilities, recognising that real change is in their hands.
  • Nurture an Active Alumni Network: Mobilise graduates into a sustainable network of long-term community members, mentors, event speakers, and ambassadors in your region.
  • Optimise Operations & Retention: Track engagement patterns using data and CRMs, identify root causes of attrition, and work alongside our Education team to design proactive support strategies that boost course completion.
  • Champion Regional Outreach: Represent CYF at local tech meetups and community events while maintaining seamless, action-driven communication channels across the community.

What You Bring

  • Community Building Track Record: Proven experience in volunteer management, community organising, non-profit coordination, or public-facing program delivery.
  • Inclusive Communication & Empathy: Outstanding interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build deep trust across diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and technical backgrounds.
  • Data-Informed Approach: Comfortable using operational tools, spreadsheets, and CRMs to track community metrics, monitor cohort health, and intervene early when participation dips.
  • Event & Project Management Skills: Strong organisational talent to run seamless, engaging in-person local community events and activities.
  • Mission Alignment: A deep, genuine passion for access to opportunities, tech equity, and social mobility.

Working Pattern & Logistics

  • Work Model: Hybrid flexibility with a local presence. You will spend at least one day a week at your local office/class. You might need to attend/organise occasional evening events and meetings
  • Weekend Commitment: You will be required to attend one Saturday class per month during active cohort runs,

What Success Looks Like in 6–12 Months

  • Volunteer Pipeline: Healthy volunteer-to-trainee ratio established across all courses
  • Retention Targets: Measurable reduction in volunteer and trainee attrition through timely, proactive support interventions.
  • Alumni Engagement: Active participation of regional alumni in mentorship and guest-speaking roles within active cohorts
