Are you an experienced HR adviser or business partner who likes being in front of line managers, helping them succeed in areas of people management? Do you have a natural flair for training and building relationships with line managers? In this new role you will design and deliver regular HR and induction training, in person and online, to upskill our line manager group. • Ensure safeguarding lies at the heart of every aspect of the service.
• Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead and ensure all members of your team record any Safeguarding concerns immediately on MyConcern and make any referrals requested in line with the Safeguarding policy.
• Act as the first point of contact for on-call queries from your direct reports, escalating any significant incidents or safeguarding concerns to SLT, and ensuring adequate cover is in place where necessary.

About You

About the role: We are looking for an experienced young people's practitioner. You will be confident in your work with young people and join our dynamic, ambitious team.

CHHAT provides a programme of targeted support services to identified, young people/young carers. The CHHAT practitioner will provide support to, and improve the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of young carers. You will address a number of target areas including emotional or physical abuse, domestic violence, neglect, social exclusion and isolation, truancy and/or underachievement at school, as a consequence of a parent or other significant family member using illicit drugs, alcohol, prescription medications or parental/carer mental health issues. Our engagement with young carers covers early to high intervention needs. We also support cases of historical parental substance use, where the young carer may, or may not still be residing with their parent, but continues to be affected by the experience.

In order to be successful with this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have extensive experience of: -

Delivering direct interventions with vulnerable young people (8-18) on both a one to one and group work capacity.

Co-producing care and safety plans with young people that are young people led, focusing on both a relational & strength-based approach.

Extensive partnership working in a multi-agency environment to ensure that the needs and wishes of the young person are heard and acted upon.

You will work as part of a team and need to be able to work in a flexible way which includes flexing their day and work location as need indicates, including being based in the locality office in Chelmsford and working in the home environment to increase convenience and accessibility, as well as extensive travel throughout Essex to reach and meet Young People.

You will need to demonstrate that you have:

-A relevant professional qualification working with vulnerable children and families is desired e.g., Diploma/degree in social work, counselling qualification, professional youth worker or related NVQ or degree. Step into a role where your confidence, compassion and professionalism truly matter. This role supports the operations of an Approved Premises working with high-risk offenders. Responsibilities include engaging with residents, helping prepare meals, supporting sentence plans with probation and police partners, and assisting with admin and activity delivery. The role involves enforcing curfews and drug/alcohol testing requirements, maintaining safety, cleanliness, and well-being at the premises, and ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping. Staff are expected to model respectful behaviour, follow operational procedures, and contribute to a positive, enabling environment in line with Hestia and Ministry of Justice standards. 

You'll thrive as part of a supportive team, leading by example and getting involved in practical day‑to‑day tasks such as cooking, gardening and shared activities that help create a stable and enabling environment. Your awareness of safeguarding issues and your ability to respond appropriately will be central to keeping people safe and supported. The role requires the capacity to maintain firm boundaries and use authority appropriately while working pro‑socially and positively with others, alongside an understanding of the emotional and behavioural impact of trauma and the ability to support people who may display a wide range of emotions, behaviours and communication challenges. It calls for strong engagement and communication skills, a flexible and responsive approach, and an optimistic belief in people's capacity to change. You'll need to learn quickly, gather information effectively and make defensible decisions, as well as accurately receive, process and record detailed information within confidentiality requirements. Working as part of a team is essential, leading by example and taking a practical, hands‑on approach to tasks such as cooking, gardening, household duties and leisure activities. A solid understanding of safeguarding issues and the ability to address them appropriately is also key.

This role requires working shifts, including evenings and weekends.
