CUF’s strategy has a vision of ending poverty together.  Over the next three years we will be developing our relationships with our networks, partnerships, Dioceses and churches to respond, primarily, to relational poverty, recognising its place within the web of poverty. Our work will be mission and community resilience focussed, in the framework of asset based community development.

Through our work we will see more impactful, confident and mission focussed churches who are empowered to serve their local communities.  We will witness greater cohesion across Dioceses, schools, Christian denominations and Christian charities as a national movement to love and serve our neighbour, and challenge unjust structures of society. We will also work more strategically with communities of different faiths

in our resilience work, facing the challenges of relational and identity poverty.  We will work closely with the Church of England who have highlighted ministry in low income communities as a priority for resourcing.

We will be more confident in speaking out the truth about poverty, through a renewed influencing, policy and research team, who will take our grassroots and collaborative work to highlight unjust structures on poverty, and shape an ecclesial, political and sociological response.

In this newly created role you will develop our work on influencing and telling the truth about poverty, this is one of two objectives for the charity.  You will help build relationships of influence within the Church of England, Government and other decision makers to use our stories and impact to show the difference churches and faith groups can make in ending material and relational poverty.  You will develop policy positions on areas of CUF’s work in relation to poverty that will give a firm basis for our work, and that we will be able to speak out on with confidence and knowledge based on connection to grassroots churches and organisations.  You will develop a robust mechanism for reporting on impact, which goes beyond just evaluating our work but demonstrates the difference that faith based social action can make on ending poverty together.

This role will report to the CEO, but work across all of CUF’s teams and departments and will be responsible for the line management of the Listening and Learning Officer.

Be Free Campaign is a youth-led mental health charity dedicated to platforming the lived experiences of young people to destigmatise early and preventive mental health support seeking.
We work with young people across Merseyside and Manchester through schools, community spaces and events, reaching thousands of young people annually. Through our core 6 programmes, young people learn how to engage and connect with support to help them take control of their health and futures.
As the charity enters its 6th year, we are actively looking to engage with racialised and marginalised young people to understand the barriers they are facing in accessing support. 

Role purpose

The Young People’s Equity and Inclusion Officer will work to improve how mental health support includes and serves racially and otherwise marginalised young people aged 11 to 25 in Liverpool. The role focuses on generating insight, co‑producing solutions, and supporting practical changes so that support is more culturally safe, accessible, and relevant.

This is a non‑clinical role centred on outcomes rather than casework. The post holder will coordinate engagement activity, gather and interpret learning, and work with partners to turn that learning into clear tools, pilots, and recommendations for change.

This role is anchored in lived experience. The successful candidate will be supported to draw on their experience in a boundaried and professional way, with structured supervision and reflective space embedded into the role. 1. Insight and Engagement
Plan and deliver structured engagement with young people aged 11–25 to explore experiences of mental health, identity and access to support. Use discussions, creative methods, surveys and interviews to gather meaningful insight. Ensure participation reflects racially minoritised and marginalised communities. Maintain accurate records of activity and emerging themes.

2. Equity and Inclusion Development
Identify patterns in barriers and gaps identified by young people. Translate learning into practical recommendations, tools and resources that strengthen equity and inclusion. Embed anti-racist and trauma-informed practice throughout all activity.

3. Partnership Coordination
Work with schools, community organisations and partners to host engagement activity and test improvement ideas. Agree clear roles and objectives for joint work. Share findings to support partners to strengthen their practice. Represent the organisation in local forums when required.

4. Pilots and Improvement Activity
Support the design and coordination of small-scale pilots based on youth insight. Gather feedback, refine approaches and document learning through clear improvement cycles.

5. Monitoring and Reporting
Track participation, demographics and agreed outcome measures. Contribute to analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Support preparation of reports, summaries and presentations for internal and external audiences, including youth-friendly formats.

6. Safeguarding and Quality
Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection policies. Respond appropriately to concerns and participate in supervision and training. Contribute to risk assessments and safe delivery across all settings.

THE CHARITY

Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.

James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.   

James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.  We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.

In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham, which will support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a new role in an expanding and dynamic organisation. It responds to our growing ambition to share what we have learned about suicide prevention and delivering services to men who are affected by inequalities.

We understand that for more men to be saved, we need others to take action too. And we need to make this case for change as compelling and impactful as possible to influence commissioners, NHS providers, or policy makers to save more men’s lives.

This role will involve leading the influencing strategy, building evidence-based policy positions, and executing powerful messaging to effectively demonstrate the impact of crisis intervention and the importance of extending this provision to more men across the country.

Overarching priorities

· To influence national and local systems leaders on the importance of rapid, equitable, accessible and tailored treatment and support for acutely suicidal men.

· To establish James’ Place as a leading and credible voice in innovative suicide prevention practice, reducing inequalities in access and in supporting men who other services aren’t reaching.

· To strengthen our evidence base and contribute insight and data to networks and partners who can grow its impact (such as organisations with larger influencing teams, media organisations, policy makers and think tanks).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

· Identify key actors and establish, lead and execute an influencing plan for the next 12 – 24 months, in line with the above priorities, emerging insight and changing contexts.

· Lead effective relationship and network building and management across charity, health and policy sectors.

· Adopt a holistic perspective with communications and fundraising colleagues, that is deeply informed by clinical practice and aligned with strategies for growth.

· Explore future partnerships to strengthen evidence base, impact and reach, with academics, think tanks, funders and policy makers

· Ensure James’ Place responds to emerging policy and influencing opportunities (such as men’s health, inequalities work, neighbourhoods, integrated health organisations, strategic commissioning and so on)
Delivery

· Represent James’ Place on external groups at parliamentary events and sector forums as appropriate, ensuring the charity’s position and the voices of men we treat are clearly and respectfully communicated.

· Monitor and respond to legislative and regulatory changes and lead consultation responses.

· Research and produce compelling policy briefings, consultation responses and evidence-based reports

· Champion accurate data collection, evaluation and insight across James’ Place, demonstrating how crucial this is for policy and influencing work externally.

· Fully brief and support the CEO and other senior leaders’ attendance at events, meetings and media work.

· Engage with researchers, evaluators and campaigners on what James’ Place knows and does so that they can represent and champion James’ Place effectively.

· Support senior colleagues to engage with the Board on matters of policy and influence.

· Undertake any other duties as required in pursuit of organisational success.

· Work closely with services, clinical, fundraising and communication colleagues to deliver our strategy and business plans to meet our charitable objectives.

· Play a role across the whole organisation, offering support and demonstrating leadership across the charity, helping colleagues to grow and develop.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

· Extensive experience in policy and influencing work at a senior level on a social or health issue, including mental or physical health, equity, or social justice.

· A strong track record of building and maintaining external relationships across sectors: government, NHS, public services, charities, academia or think tanks; healthcare experience is highly desirable

· Substantial experience of preparing and submitting consultation documents, position statements and advocacy materials.

· Strong communication skills, in writing and in person.

· Experience of working with quantitative and qualitative research and researchers, work with data and insight to make credible and evidence-based arguments.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

This role is part time with a commitment of approximately 2-3 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings.  Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices in London or other suitable venues.

Members are paid up to £185 per meeting. This is taxable and subject to National Insurance (NI) contributions. This is in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule.

Role purpose

Variety, the Children’s Charity is looking for a Head of People and Culture to lead and deliver all aspects of the charity’s people strategy. Part of the Operations Team, this is an exciting role combining strategic leadership with hands-on operational HR management. The postholder will be experienced in driving forward new strategies, ensuring Variety has robust, compliant and people centered practices in place. This role will support a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture which is aligned to Variety’s mission and values.

This is a new role at Variety during an exciting time as we develop and launch a new three-year strategy later this year and invest in our people and culture. The staff team at Variety has grown over the last year, reflecting the charity’s ambitious strategy to double charitable expenditure over the next three years. We are at an exciting point to recruit an experienced HR professional to continue our growth, developing our people while strengthening our collaborative culture, champion wellbeing, and leading Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The Head of People and Culture will work with the CEO and Senior Management Team and contribute to strategic decisions at Variety. There is a separate support service which is outsourced for complex or specialist HR matters if required. Variety is a small, dedicated team of 30 staff, and this role reports to the CEO with a close working relationship with the Director of Finance and Operations.

Key responsibilities
Strategy and Performance
Building organisational capacity is one of the pillars of our three-year strategy which is in development. Variety is investing in recruitment, and retention of a high-performing workforce with harmonised contracts and policies.

This role will:

• Develop and implement a People and Culture Strategy aligned with Variety’s new three-year organisational strategy
• Lead workforce planning and organisational development
• Implement and oversee a clear and consistent performance managementframework
• Mange safe and inclusive recruitment processes
• Lead the annual appraisal process and support probation reviews for new staff
• Provide regular reporting to the CEO for Trustee meetings on people metrics and any risks to the people strategy
• Manage the outsourced HR provider to Variety

HR operations and recruitment

• Oversee and directly manage recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance management and exit processes at Variety
• Develop and support the investment in recruitment and retention of high-performing team members
• Manage the onboarding process for new staff, sending offer letters, taking up references and inductions, ensuring a good start at Variety
• Manage employee relations cases (if they arise)
• Maintain and update the staff handbook, HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with UK employment law
• Introduce and manage an improved HR portal which will improve Variety’s HR function
• Manage the HR budget and the annual salary review process with the Director of Finance

Person specification
Essential

• CIPD Level 7 qualified (or equivalent experience)
• Significant experience in a senior HR/People role, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector
• Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
• Experience managing employee relations cases independently
• Experience advising Senior Management Teams and Trustee boards
• Ability to operate strategically while delivering operational HR hands-on
• High level of discretion and confidentiality

Desirable

• Experience working as a standalone HR lead
• Experience working in a small or medium-sized organisations
• Knowledge of safeguarding requirements for the charity sector
• Experience implementing HR systems and improving processes

We are seeking a full-time Project Manager to support delivery of our new programme, Reading Reboot, funded by the Charlotte Aitken Trust, and to support the SLA to grow its reach and impact. Reading Reboot is being developed to address the reading crisis and restore a love of reading for young people in Year 8, in communities facing the greatest disadvantage. This is an opportunity to lead a flagship national programme with the potential to shape future investment in school libraries, in a supportive, mission-driven team culture within a small but influential charity. 

The Reading Reboot programme will establish librarian-led social book clubs in over 100 under-funded secondary school libraries across the UK and reach more than 6,000 young people directly, alongside librarians, senior leaders and wider school communities. Reading Reboot places school librarians at the heart of delivery, combining new book stock, inspiring author engagement, appealing library spaces, and a robust evaluation to evidence impact and inform future national roll-out.   

The Project Manager will lead on development and delivery, working closely with the CEO, a Project Board and external evaluation team to ensure the programme meets its objectives on time, within budget and to a high quality. They will recruit and coordinate schools and librarians, work with partners and funders, and ensure that learning and impact are captured and shared across the sector. Building strong relationships with all stakeholders, the Project Manager will be the main point of contact for the programme and will support the CEO and Project Board with timely updates, papers and participation in meetings. Successful candidates will have extensive and demonstrable experience of project management in schools or youth settings. Experience of training development and delivery will be an advantage.

Overall Purpose

• Delivery of income for NHS Charities Together and our members, working closely with colleagues across our development team and wider organisation to devise and deliver fundraising strategies at a local level.
• Creating surprise and delight engagement opportunities that will help to maintain and grow relationships and income across the partnership and philanthropy portfolio.
• Supporting development team colleagues to maintain effective relationships with our portfolio of partnerships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The main duties and responsibilities of the role holder are as outlined below:

Strategic Partnerships and Philanthropy:

• Support the creation and delivery of effective fundraising within our key strategic partnerships, working with and through our network of over 200 members. This includes some established national multi-year corporate relationships.
• Assist in the creation and scheduling of strategic communications between partners and members, working closely with the colleagues within NHS Charities Together.
• Support and facilitate the creation and delivery of volunteering opportunities for partners on both a national and local level, working closely with NHS charity members and wider NHS Charities Together staff.
• Support in the coordination of national and local partnership activities during peak moments in our calendar and employee engagement campaigns.

Cultivation & Stewardship:

• Work with the Development Team to devise and deliver programmes of engagement for major corporate donors.
• Support in the creation of partnership reports, newsletters and regular updates.
• Provide support to the wider Development team at moments of peak activity, including supporting events and other campaigns

Relationship Management:

• Maintain accurate records of interactions with partners, donors and members in our database & CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge, Beacon), working in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations)
• Support the development of stewardship plans to recognise and retain partners and donors.
• Maintain close working relationships with members of the team across the organisation to support the delivery of our fundraising plans

• Maintain and develop knowledge of fundraising trends and innovations especially within the corporate and philanthropy fundraising market.

This role is full-time working 37.5 hours per week and is home-based with some national travel.
