Context and Background
The NSPCC relies on voluntary income for the majority of its work to keep children safe,
prevent abuse and ensure every child has a voice. To secure long -term sustainability, the
charity has reshaped how it engages supporters through the Engagement and Fun draising
Directorate. Within this, the Philanthropy and Partnerships Department brings together
high -value audiences and supporter -led income. The Volunteer Board Fundraising team
leads income generation through regional and national volunteer boards , volunteer -led
fundraising initiatives and delivery of special events through our high value event
committees . These activities play a vital role in maximising sustainable income, engaging
senior volunteers, and supporting long -term supporter relationships.
The volunteer boards are made up of influential and successful senior stakeholders who feel
passionately about the NSPCC and volunteer their time to help the NSPCC generate income
and awareness. They employ a range of fundraising techniques to reach their goals focus being to use their networks and influence to secure income generating opportunities
via events, corporate partnerships and major gifts from individuals.

This role will support , and lead the growth and development of, the s uccessful Wales
Fundraising Board which has been established for over 25 year s, initially as the NSPCC Full
Stop Appeal Board for Wales. The board has helped to lead and organise balls and dinners ,
overseas fundraising challenges and a variety of events in Wales and the rest of the UK. The
board’s ‘Building Brighter Futures’ appeal secured funding to build the NSPCC’s d edicated
Wales hub in Cardiff , Diane Engelhardt House , opened in 2010. The key focus of the current
board is to support the raising of over £1m annually from a range of supporter audiences
and promote the NSPCC across Wales by organising events (both fundraising and
engagement), establishing new contacts - primarily high net worth individuals and corporate
partners - and supporting the delivery of NSPCC services including recruitment of
volunteers and supporting access to NSPCC services.The team works closely with colleagues in Philanthropy and Partnerships (corporate
partnerships , major gifts, trusts and statutory ), Public Engagement (marketing, brand,
digital), and Fundraising Operations (data, compliance, finance, procurement) to ensure
volunteer fundraising is integrated into supporter journeys, delivers excellent experiences,
and achieves strong ROI.
The role of the Fundraiser is to cultivate and steward key relationships and deliver special
projects across the volunteer board and their network to deliver against annual income
plans .
Job purpose

Managing Volunteer Relationships

strategies and fundraising communications.

Budgeting , Finance and Evaluation
• Contribute to the budgets for volunteer fundraising activity, whilst supporting the
Fundraising Manager to accurately monitor income and expenditure
• With the support of the Fundraising Manager , ensure accurate data capture and
reporting
• To provide financial administrative assistance to budget holders, including
processing invoices, placing orders, undertaking financial analysis, cash handling

Person specification
1. Experience of building effective relationships through face to face interactions with

James’ Place London, Suicide Prevention Therapist
Job Title: Suicide Prevention Therapist
Salary: c.£33,000 per annum pro rata, plus 15% ILW

THE CHARITY
Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.
In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are expanding our team of clinicians to deliver our clinically proven intervention at our James’ Place centre in London. As a Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will be an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention. You will support men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis and their supporter(s), delivering our unique intervention and co-producing effective safety plans to maintain their safety. Training and support will be provided by the Head of Centre in London and the wider James’ Place team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
· Conduct initial Welcome Assessments with men in a suicidal crisis, assessing risk and the suitability of the James’ Place intervention and co-producing effective safety plans
· Deliver our therapeutic intervention, building trust and exploring the reasons for crisis
· Use the Lay Your Cards on the Table intervention to encourage men to talk about and explore their feelings, attitudes and behaviours and develop positive coping strategies
· Take full clinical responsibility of the men under James’ Place care, as a member of the clinical team and in consultation with Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist and Head of Centre when needed
· Escalate care to appropriate services when necessary, including emergency services and secondary mental health teams
· Deliver one-off guidance sessions to supporters of men under the James’ Place care
· Work collaboratively with other professionals to coordinate comprehensive care
· Demonstrate self-awareness and regularly dedicate time and space, inside and outside of work, to keeping yourself well
· Undergo clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor to reflect on clinical work and raise any issues or concerns arising from work
· Remain up to date with developments in law, theories and research
· Engage in peer support sessions, caseload discussions and Reflective Practice with the team
· Contribute to an environment in which confidentiality, privacy and dignity are respected and be clear with clients about limits of confidentiality

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The role requires someone with a relevant qualification who can confidently support men experiencing a suicidal crisis. You will need to be able to effectively conduct risk assessments and deliver our clinically proven therapeutic intervention to ensure client safety. Strong therapeutic communication, the ability to work autonomously and teamwork skills are also essential to this role, as well as the ability to build trust and hope.

Qualification(s)
· A Core Profession such as Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker, counselling or practitioner psychologist registered with NMC, HCPC, or Social Work England
or
· Accreditation as a psychological therapist, psychotherapist, or counsellor registered with BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent, or have completed training and awaiting accreditation
You must hold a relevant qualification to be considered for this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
· Demonstrable experience working with adults experiencing acute psychological distress
· Demonstrable knowledge of social and other factors which could lead to suicidal thinking and actions
· Demonstrable knowledge of the factors contributing to male suicide
· Evidence of being able to deliver a therapeutic session and work in a therapeutic environment
· Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)

Objective: 2wish exists to provide support to anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under.
Aims:
- Ensure every Emergency Department and Critical Care unit has a suitable bereavement suite
- Ensure that bereavement boxes are available at each of these hospitals
- Ensure that immediate bereavement support is available for all affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
- Provide a professional counselling service and other therapies for those affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
- Provide support to individuals who witness the sudden death of a child or young person
- Provide support and training to professionals from any sector who may be affected by the sudden death of a child or young person

2wish has been established since 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. During tis time, we have worked tirelessly to embed our service and ensure that the offer of support is made at the point of death.
We offer an immediate, consistent, high-quality and compassionate service to all individuals affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under in Wales and the bordering counties in England, including; Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset, with the plan to continue to roll out support to the whole of England. We work in partnership with professionals who refer int the charity on behalf of families, so they don’t have to trawl through the internet for an organisation who may, or may not, be able to support. We provide immediate, and ongoing, support and are here for as long as our families need us.
Context of role:
2wish support anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. We provide immediate casework support, as well as ongoing aftercare services including counselling, alternative therapies, play therapy, support groups, support events and a respite cottage.
We are looking for a strong leader to manage the bereavement service including the operational delivery of immediate support and counselling and therapeutic support services, this includes the line management of the staff responsible for delivering this service.

Main duties:
Safeguarding Leadership & Case Management
- Act as the first point of contact for all safeguarding concerns raised internally or externally.
- Assess, triage, and respond to safeguarding concerns involving vulnerable bereaved parents, carers, siblings, or young people.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and 2wish policies.
- Liaise with statutory agencies (Social Services, Police, Health, Education) to ensure appropriate information‑sharing and coordinated responses.
- Ensure timely escalation of high‑risk cases to the senior leadership team.
Support to Families & Vulnerable Individuals
- Provide trauma‑informed safeguarding guidance to staff supporting families in crisis or acute grief.
- Monitor risks associated with complex family dynamics (e.g., domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health crises, self‑harm, suicidal ideation).
- Offer safeguarding input into family support plans, therapeutic work, and follow‑up services.
- Contribute to safer engagement strategies for young people attending support sessions or activities.
Safeguarding at Events
- Work closely with the Events Team to ensure risk assessments for fundraising events account for vulnerable beneficiaries in attendance.
- Provide on‑the‑day safeguarding cover at key events when required.
- Support staff and volunteers in managing disclosures or concerns arising during events.
Policy, Procedure & Compliance
- Support the development, review, and implementation of safeguarding policies in line with national legislation, regulatory guidance, and best practice.
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission safeguarding expectations.
- Conduct audits and spot checks to assess safeguarding practice across 2wish services.
- Contribute to risk assessments, incident reviews, and continuous improvement processes.
Training & Capacity Building
- Deliver safeguarding training and briefings to staff, trustees, volunteers, and sessional workers.
- Promote a confident safeguarding culture where concerns are recognised early and raised promptly.
- Support onboarding processes to ensure all staff and volunteers understand their safeguarding responsibilities.
Partnership Working
- Build strong relationships with safeguarding boards, local authorities, health boards, schools, and referral partners.
- Represent 2wish multi‑agency meetings, strategy discussions, and case conferences.
General:
- To be responsible for organising own work agenda, time management and administration
- To show respect and sensitivity for the cultural and religious beliefs of families
- To undertake learning opportunities and seek them out for the team

What we do for you:
Contract type: Permanent and full-time
Hours: Normal office hours are 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, although alternative hours may be worked with line manager agreement. Work outside office hours may sometimes be necessary and will be compensated for by time off in lieu.
Annual leave: 28 days plus bank holidays. Annual leave steadily increases after five years of service. Annual leave and statutory holidays are calculated on a pro rata basis where applicable.
Pension: 2wish operate a contributory pension scheme. 2wish will auto-enrol you into the scheme in accordance with it’s auto-enrolment obligations. We are now seeking a Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team and work closely with operational leaders across supported living, residential, and community-based services. This is a highly visible role, focused on turning financial data into meaningful insight that improves outcomes, strengthens services, and delivers value for money, while remaining aligned with our mission and Charities SORP.
The key responsibilities of the Finance Business Partner include:
- Act as the primary finance contact for defined service localities, providing proactive, trusted business partnering support.
- Produce monthly management accounts with clear variance analysis and insightful commentary on income, staffing, agency usage, sleep-ins, travel, and overhead recovery.
- Support Team Managers with budgeting, reforecasting, cost control, and financial planning aligned to safe staffing and support needs.
- Lead unit economics and service performance analysis, including rota efficiency, voids, empty rooms, and overall service sustainability.
- Work closely with the Development Accountant to ensure pricing models, service charges, and cost allocations accurately reflect the true cost of delivery.
- Build and maintain finance KPI dashboards in collaboration with Operations and the Senior Management Accountant.
- Support bids, retenders, and contract variations by providing robust costings, pricing models, and funding justifications.
- Analyse performance across block, spot, framework, and personal budget contracts, reconciling delivered versus commissioned activity.
- Support commissioner discussions around uplifts linked to inflation, National Living Wage, and changes in acuity.
- Work with the Financial Controller to ensure accurate and timely billing, with correct treatment of restricted, unrestricted, and deferred income.

Candidate Requirements
We are seeking a highly capable, strategic, and commercially aware finance professional with:

- Proven experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Experience of leading financial transformation and change programmes.
- Experience presenting complex financial information to Boards and non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of charity finance regulations, SORP, governance, and compliance.
- Exceptional analytical, project management, and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to lead, influence, and inspire cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.

Desirable:
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in finance, leadership, or management.
