The Glasshouse is the UK’s only not-for-profit plant installation and maintenance provider: a distinctive social enterprise where exceptional planting creates meaningful employment and measurable impact.
We design, install and care for beautiful, nature-filled spaces for organisations across London, while opening up practical, paid pathways for women in custody or recently released from prison. Clients choose The Glasshouse because the planting is thoughtful, design-led and expertly maintained — and because every contract helps create second chances. As a Community Interest Company, 100% of their profits go back into impact work, so commercial excellence directly fuels training, employment and support for women with lived experience of prison.
The Glasshouse is now entering an exciting new phase. We have a clear vision and business plan for the next few years, and are strengthening the leadership capacity needed to deliver it. The business has grown strongly, with earned income more than doubling in the last year, and the next chapter is about building on that momentum in a sustainable, well-planned way. With a new Growth Manager joining to strengthen the sales function and greater ownership already developing across the wider team, the opportunity now is to make sure growth is financially sound, operationally deliverable and always aligned with the social impact that sits at the heart of The Glasshouse.
The Glasshouse is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer to work with the Founder and Board to bring this next phase to life. The successful candidate does not need to have been a Chief Executive Officer before, but will have held significant responsibility for the performance of a business, organisation or business unit. They will be commercially strong and purpose-driven, comfortable moving between the strategic view and the operational detail, and able to turn plans, budgets and a sales pipeline into clear priorities and action. Low ego and high standards will matter here: they will be calm, pragmatic and enabling, building trust across the Founder, Board, Growth Manager and wider team, while ensuring that commercial success creates more meaningful opportunities, greater stability and stronger futures for women with lived experience of prison.
To do this role well, the successful candidate will need sound judgement, inspiring leadership skills, commercial confidence and the ability to turn ambition into practical action.

We are committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and our approach goes beyond ‘protected characteristics’ to thinking more broadly about inclusion. Every individual will think and feel differently and we believe that these differences should be embraced, and individual needs taken into account. Additionally, the makeup of the rural communities we work with leads to their own particular diversity and exclusion challenges and opportunities compared to urban areas. Our commitment to EDI, both internally and externally, has been tailored to Plunkett and the communities we serve.
No agencies please.
