The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is the national charity supporting communities of all backgrounds to enjoy water safely and be free from drowning. Our vision is to have ‘Communities free from drowning’ and our strategic framework 2025-2030 details our goals over this period.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Head of Operations will play a central leadership role within RLSS UK, ensuring the charity operates effectively and efficiently. The successful candidate will lead and support the RLSS UK HR, Business Systems and IT, and Compliance departments and provide high quality decision support to senior managers on areas within this portfolio. This is a strategic and hands-on operational role overseeing key areas of the corporate services directorate.

Our current Regulatory bodies are:

• The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, Ofqual in England.
• The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment, CCEA in Northern Ireland.
• Qualifications Wales, QW in Wales.
   

Maintaining and exceeding the standards, policies and procedures of these bodies are essential for ensuring our Awarding Organisation and Awarding Body status with the respective Regulators, enabling us to offer regulated qualifications. We also maintain compliance with the Charity Commission, Companies House and the Fundraising Regulator.

Working closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will help manage the organisation’s systems and culture needed to support high-quality delivery across a growing water safety education charity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organisational Leadership & Operations

• Lead and oversee day-to-day organisational operations across the HR, Business Systems and IT, and Compliance functions
• Develop and improve internal systems, processes, and operational procedures
• Support organisational planning and delivery
• Work closely with the CEO and senior managers to support organisational growth and resilience
• Contribute to organisational decision-making and leadership culture
• Attend Board meetings and committees where required, and any other such Leadership Team functions where necessary
• Build effective relations across departments to support organisational excellence
• Always demonstrate and uphold the Society’s values and behavioural standards.
   

People & HR Management

• Ensure effective, legally compliant policies and procedures are in place to support the recruitment, development, and retention of a high performing workforce
• Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives that build and underpin equality, diversity and inclusion, learning and development, wellbeing, and employee engagement
• Lead on the development and presentation of recommendations for annual pay and benefits review
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff development processes
• Help foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture
• Support managers with operational people-management matters
   

Compliance

• Ensure that standards, policies, and procedures meet and exceed the regulatory requirements set by our regulatory bodies
• Ensure compliance with RLSS UK regulators
• Oversee organisational risk management systems
• Ensure appropriate insurance, contracts, and compliance frameworks are in place
• Lead on operational health and safety systems and organisational compliance
   

Organisational Systems

• Support organisational budgeting and financial monitoring alongside the finance and Senior Leadership teams
• Oversee operational procurement and contract management systems
• Support implementation and optimisation of organisational systems, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and IT systems including cyber security
• Improve internal reporting and programme coordination systems
   

Programme & Delivery Support

• Support operational coordination across RLSS UK programmes and projects
• Help ensure teams are appropriately resourced and supported
• Improve organisational project management systems and workflows
• Support efficient collaboration across delivery teams
• Contribute to organisational development opportunities and partnerships
   

Other Duties & Responsibilities

• All other duties reasonably associated with your role, as directed by the Line Manager

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. 

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. 

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change - scaling and spreading the practices that make a difference. 

One of the most important things we do is turn evidence into action through our change programmes, working directly with schools, local leaders and services to change practice and prevent violence. To deliver these programmes well, we need clear plans, smooth commissioning and procurement processes, accurate data and strong coordination across teams and partners.

The Programme Delivery Manager role is critical to making that happen, and it has two distinct elements: 

Programme management for two Change programmes: You’ll be the hands-on programme lead for two of our main change programmes. You’ll work closely with the Change delivery team to put clear, aligned plans in place and then brilliantly manage those plans day to day, making sure everyone knows what’s expected of them and by when. 

Commissioning and procurement support for the whole Change team: You’ll also be the go-to source of guidance and advice for Change colleagues who are procuring or commissioning other activity. You’ll help the team navigate processes correctly, ensuring commissioning is captured and maintained accurately in Salesforce and keep our ways of working consistent across the team. By keeping us organised and on track, you’ll help us maximise the impact of every pound we invest. 

Key responsibilities 

Your role has these two distinct but complementary elements. The first is hands-on programme management for two of our main Change programmes. The second is acting as a source of guidance, advice and practical support on commissioning and procurement for the wider Change team. Together, these responsibilities are essential to keeping our programmes on track and our commissioning processes running smoothly and consistently. A detailed list of your key responsibilities is given below: 

1: Hands-on programme management for two Change programmes 

• Lead programme planning and coordination: 

• Work with the delivery team to make sure we have clear, aligned programme plans in place, with timelines, milestones and owners for every workstream. 

• Brilliantly manage those plans day to day, making sure everyone knows what’s expected of them and by when, and that the team stays on track across multiple demanding workstreams. 

• Track dependencies and progress, flag risks to delivery early and coordinate solutions before issues become blockers. 

2: Guidance, advice and practical support on commissioning and procurement for the Change team  

• Manage contracts and commissioning for delivery partners 

• Draft, prepare and execute agreements and subsequent variations with delivery partners and commissioned providers, using Adobe e-Sign where required. 

• Accurately input and maintain all programme data in Salesforce, including deliverables, financial commitments, payment schedules and supporting documents. 

• Ensure timely reporting and compliance with contractual requirements. 

• Resolve payment queries and discrepancies quickly, chasing outstanding invoices and reports where needed, and conduct regular data accuracy spot checks in Salesforce. 

• Support process improvements and ways of working 

• Work with the Senior Grants and Commissioning Manager to keep the team’s commissioning and procurement processes consistent with YEF-wide ways of working. 

• Develop and maintain simple, effective tools for planning, tracking and reporting, building on the systems we already use (including Salesforce). 

• Identify and suggest process enhancements to drive efficiency and consistency across our programme and commissioning operations. 

• Enable effective communication and reporting 

• Serve as the central point of contact for programme delivery, commissioning and procurement requests across the team, ensuring streamlined processes and avoiding duplication. 

• Provide timely responses and clear communication to internal teams and external partners to keep everything moving. 

• Keep senior leadership informed with forward plans, dashboards and progress updates to support better strategic decisions.

Hybrid Working Details     

The office is based in Central London. Those living in and around London are expected to be in the office for a minimum of 2 days per week. If you live outside of London and work remotely, you’ll be expected to work from the London office 2 days per month.

We have seven staff, three freelance or contract staff and 12 volunteers; four of our staff work full-time.  We are looking for a capable, positive and motivated problem solver with the experience to manage a broad range of tasks and responsibilities.

This is an exciting time to join Kalayaan in an operational and administrative role, with a range of operational change projects underway, a new database being rolled out, office redecoration about to start, and a new website ready for launch in July.

Fruit & Nut Village plans to expand operations to include more parts of the city in its work. The current four “Fruit & Nut Villages” based in South Birmingham are soon set to be joined by new neighbourhoods in East Birmingham. Investment in these areas is planned to increase over the coming years with additional staff, resources and partnerships being brought to this part of the city. By 2040 the charity hopes to be operating across the entire city of Birmingham. 

This opportunity is aimed towards 16 to 30 year olds wishing to improve their employability in the field of community food-growing.

The purpose of these roles is to train two individuals in community organising, the safe management of community greenspace sessions and perennial food-growing techniques. These roles are offered on a 12-month fixed-term basis. Subject to organisational needs, funding and performance, we hope that successful trainees will have the opportunity to continue their journey with Fruit & Nut Village beyond the initial training period.

We are especially interested in hearing from people living in areas of Birmingham where community food-growing is not already taking place or is only taking place at a low level, such as individuals living in “East Birmingham” as defined by Birmingham City Council.

Through a combination of hands-on experience, mentoring and training, trainees will develop their skills in the following, plus other, areas:

Programme Manager

Join The Borrow Foundation and help improve children's oral health worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead our international grant-making programmes, build strategic partnerships and work with organisations including the World Health Organization to reduce oral health inequalities.

ROLE

The Programme Manager will play a key, hands-on operational role in the development, delivery, and management of the Foundation’s grant-making portfolio, including collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), advocacy initiatives, and support for oral health meetings and events. Working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations (DFO), trustees, grant applicants, research partners, and funded organisations, the postholder will lead the coordination and management of the grant programmes.

In addition to oversing grant programme delivery, the role will play a key part in promoting the Foundation’s research activities, funding opportunities, partnerships, and impact across the oral health, research, charitable, and wider stakeholder communities. The postholder will help strengthen the Foundation’s profile and visibility, support stakeholder engagement, and develop strategic relationships that enhance the reach and impact of the Foundation’s work. The role may require occasional national and international travel.

The Programme Manager will report to the Director of Finance and Operations and will have one direct report.

Key responsibilities

Grant programme management

• Lead the operational management and delivery of the Foundation’s grant programmes and other funding activities, supporting global and regional initiatives.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with funded organisations, researchers, applicants, academic institutions, charities, and external stakeholders including the World Health Organization (WHO).
• Manage the grant programme timelines, processes, and workflows to ensure effective and timely delivery.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of grant-making processes, policies, and systems.
• Prepare application summaries, briefing papers, and assessment documentation for Board and panel review.
• Liaise closely with the DFO, trustees, reviewers, and assessment panels to facilitate fair and robust grant assessment and decision-making processes.

• Lead the development and delivery of communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, including website content, social media, impact reports, promotional materials, and stakeholder communications.

Governance and Board support
