Youth Programmes Officer
Hours: 35 hours per week
Reporting to: Youth Programmes Manager
About us
The Ben Kinsella Trust is one of the UK’s leading anti-knife crime charities. We were set up following the tragic murder of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella in 2008, and everything we do is guided by his legacy. Our mission is to prevent knife crime through education and campaigning.
Ben was a kind, creative young person who loved art, music, Arsenal FC, and making people laugh. He had big dreams of becoming a graphic designer. His death was a senseless act of violence, and the outpouring of grief and public support that followed marked the start of a movement. Ben’s own words, written shortly before his death, called for change, and his voice continues to inspire our work.
Through immersive workshops in our Choices and Consequences Exhibitions and free online resources, we have reached over 50,000 young people so far. Our work challenges myths about knife crime, strengthens peer influence, and sparks meaningful conversations. As we grow, we remain committed to honouring Ben’s life by making a real, lasting difference to young people across the UK.
We’re a small but growing team of 11 (rising to 14), working across Programmes, Fundraising, Communications, Finance and Operations, and Leadership. Our Programmes team is supported by a brilliant pool of freelance facilitators and actors who help bring our workshops to life. We’re now looking for an Youth Programmes Officer to join us at this exciting time. Since 1892, Birmingham Dogs Home has been rescuing, reuniting and rehoming dogs across the West Midlands. Each year, thousands of dogs receive the second chance they deserve thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters and volunteers.
As we prepare to celebrate our 135th anniversary, we're looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Coordinator to help shape and grow our volunteer programme across our Solihull and Wolverhampton centres.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. In this role, you'll recruit, support and inspire people who generously give their time to help dogs in our care. From welcoming new volunteers and coordinating training to building relationships with local organisations and supporting corporate volunteering days, you'll play a key role in creating a positive and rewarding volunteering experience.
Working closely with the Head of Income Generation, you'll lead the day-to-day delivery of our volunteer programme, helping to ensure our volunteers feel valued, supported and equipped to make a real difference.
About You
We're looking for someone with experience of coordinating or managing volunteers, who enjoys working with people and building lasting relationships.
You will be organised, confident in managing a varied workload and comfortable working across multiple sites. You will enjoy motivating others, bringing people together and finding practical solutions that help both volunteers and colleagues.
An excellent communicator, you will build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, whether you're welcoming a new volunteer, supporting an existing team member or developing partnerships with local organisations and businesses.
Most importantly, you'll understand the value that volunteers bring to Birmingham Dogs Home and be passionate about creating an environment where they feel appreciated and motivated to continue making a difference.
In return, we offer:
If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference and help people change the lives of homeless dogs every day, we'd love to hear from you.
To apply, please submit your CV along with a cover letter outlining:
* Why this role appeals to you
* Your experience of working with volunteers
Application deadline: Monday 10th August
First stage interview: w/c Monday 17th August (can be flexible due to holiday period)
Please note that due to the high number of applications we may receive, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
At Birmingham Dogs Home, our dedicated team cares for stray, abandoned, and unwanted dogs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

WHO WE ARE
We are Zarach, the children’s bed charity, and we’re on a mission to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night's sleep, and the chance to thrive at school.
In our nearly eight years as a registered charity, we’ve captured the hearts and attention of many individuals, community groups, businesses and funders who want to support us on our mission. We’ve also been given an incredible media platform from which we have raised awareness of child bed poverty at local, regional and national levels. This support and awareness has seen us deliver over 18,000 bed bundles to children to date!
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
As we continue to grow our service across the North West, we are looking to recruit a Family Engagement Officer to join our newly established North West team. This role offers a unique opportunity to play a key part in the growth and development of our vital service, particularly in the Merseyside area. The role is currently being offered at 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE) but has the potential to increase to full time with further development.
As our ideal candidate you will be based in the Merseyside area or within commuting distance, but be happy to travel in and around the wider North West area. You will be able to travel regularly to meet with the team and to conduct home visits across the region. You will also need to be able to attend our Leeds Warehouse or other areas when required.
You will be someone who has good experience of the broad range of day-to-day case management, working with external partners, volunteer support, and administrative activities that working in a dynamic charity brings, and someone who enjoys the busyness and variety of this.
Alongside your family support and engagement-related skills and experience, we’ll be looking to see that you have a genuine care for our mission and, as such, are self-motivated to do a great job and be a values-led member of our team.
Ideally, you’ll have experience of working with vulnerable families and managing volunteers in the charity sector, due to some of the specialties that come with this, such as safeguarding and partnership working. But charity experience is not essential if you can demonstrate an appetite and track record for continual learning and development across your working life to date.
