Both roles focus on leading delivery locally (in Sheffield you will be responsible for a new fortnightly session) while also being active members of Xenia’s non-hierarchical staff team. Xenia is a grassroots women’s organisation working to create more inclusive, equal, and welcoming communities. Founded in 2016, we bring together migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking, and UK-born women through weekly Saturday workshops focused on conversation, connection, and shared learning. Participants are at the heart of Xenia. Women come together as active equals to practise spoken English, reduce social isolation, build friendships across cultures, and access civic and democratic opportunities. Our workshops are shaped by participants and grounded in care, hospitality, and mutual support. Conversation is central to Xenia’s practice. We use dialogue not just as a tool for practising English, but as a feminist way of working — sharing power, building trust, and creating collective knowledge. This approach runs through workshops, our organisational decisions, and our planning for the future. We are a small, ambitious charity at an exciting stage, focused on strengthening participant-led practice, sharing methodologies with other women’s and migrant organisations, and building sustainable, values-aligned structures to support our work long-term.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Deputy Service Manager to support survivors who have been impacted by domestic abuse. We are recruiting for a Deputy Service Manager who is passionate about supporting survivors who are impacted by domestic abuse. In this role you will provide line management and support to community-based staff who support survivors of domestic abuse across Derby City.  This will include providing supervision on complex casework, overseeing operational emergencies and ensuring high standards of casework.

The Deputy service manager will join our management team to assist the service manager in the delivery and development of high-quality support to survivors accessing our community-based services in Derby City. In this role you will ensure the smooth running of high-quality service to support survivors of domestic abuse. This will include managing staff teams to ensure effective advocacy is provided to survivors who are at medium/standard risk and their children. 

A key requirement is to provide personal welfare support and to ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive outreach service

Suitable candidates must have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support, and of managing case work. In addition, you must have experience of managing and motivating staff, knowledge of domestic abuse issues, experience of providing support to survivors, and experience of working in community-based services

As a member of the management team, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call service, on a rota basis, responding to out of hours emergencies.

About You

Location: This role is based in Luton. You will act as a key triage, coordination and partnership lead to ensure individuals are connected to the right level of support, whether through short term engagement within the service or onward signposting to community opportunities.

Working alongside our senior staff team to deliver a dynamic external communications strategy, this is a new role with the opportunity to shape how the charity relates to partners, supporters and the general public across the city.

You will be responsible for delivering an effective communications plan that increases awareness and engages key audiences in the city, to strongly support SCM’s current projects. £28,808 per annum, working 40 hours per week.

Hi, I'm P and I am a 27-year-old man who currently lives in a supported living service in Newham. I have lived here for just over one year, and came to England with my mother from Poland in 2015.
I am a friendly and engaged man, but I speak very little English and communicate easiest in Polish so need someone who can support me with this and support me with learning some English. I do enjoy staying connected with my Polish heritage but would like support to socialise better with those around me. I have a very good relationship with my family, particularly my mother, brother, nieces and nephews, and usually spend the weekends with my mother at her home when I can.
I enjoy dancing and singing, and like watching Youtube to sing and dance along to the videos. I also attend the local learning zone for crafting classes, and enjoy games and other crafting activities. I also enjoy "man things" like sports and drinking coffee (decaf!) or going shopping and to the pub (where I enjoy non-alcoholic beer). It is important to me that I can live as independent and adult a life as possible.
My favourite foods are burgers, pizza and cola but I need to be supported and encouraged to keep healthy, and make healthy choices as well as maintain my environment - I may need prompting and support to engage in chores such as cleaning my room, doing my laundry, washing up etc.
I am looking for a proactive individual to support me with these daily living skills, building and maintaining relationships, keeping myself and my home safe but also to help me develop my skills to live more independently, to share my hobbies and interests and to explore new activities.
I am looking for someone who is a good and clear communicator, in both Polish and English, is assertive, has good IT skills and shares my enthusiasm for what interests me, like music, food and meaningful activities.
