Birth Companions is a national charity supporting women having their babies in very difficult and complex situations. These include mothers in prison; mothers with insecure immigration status; and mothers who have involvement from children’s social care. Their lives are often shaped by deep-rooted, structural factors such as sexism, racism and poverty. These women and their children experience enormous challenges, but often they are not given the support they need, and are treated unfairly. This results in poor outcomes for mothers, and long-term problems for their children.
At Birth Companions we deliver specialist services to improve women’s lives in the here and now. We make sure there’s evidence of what’s going wrong and how to make things right. We work with partners to shape national law, policy and guidance, improve the care given by statutory services and systems, and ensure women’s rights are upheld.
We do this through Birth Companions’ three interlinked areas of work:
- Our specialist services provide support to women and babies, and help us understand what’s happening on the ground.
- Our Lived Experience Programme centres and develops the expertise and power of women who have faced severe disadvantage during pregnancy and motherhood.
- Our Birth Companions Institute holds our work with academics, politicians, policy-makers, journalists and legal partners, and coordinates our campaigns, research, thought-leadership and policy programmes.
The Coordinator: Community Perinatal Services will coordinate and deliver a high quality, trauma-informed service offering specialist emotional and practical support to pregnant women and new mothers for up to 12 months post-birth, who are experiencing multiple disadvantage and living in the community, predominantly in the northeast London area.
The role includes the co-ordination and support of volunteers, who deliver the majority of our birth support service.

Family Action Head Office, London (N1) with hybrid working
37 hours per week (full-time)
£37,211 - £41,518 per annum
Plus £3,866 Inner London Weighting (if London-based) or £480 (if home-based)
We are flexible about both hours and where you work. The role is 37 hours per week full-time, but we welcome applications from people looking for part-time or other flexible working arrangements. We are also open to both office and home-based working; for colleagues based at our London office (N1), we operate a hybrid working model with an expectation of office attendance twice per week.
One of the roles will partner with our London-based services, so being based in or within commuting distance of London would be beneficial. However, we don’t want location to be a barrier and we welcome applications from people based elsewhere in the UK.
Family Action & the Role’s Impact:
At Family Action, we support people through change, challenge or crisis. It’s what we’ve done for over 150 years. We protect children, support young people and adults and offer direct, practical help to families and communities.
We see first-hand the power of family to shape lives, for better or worse, so we speak up for the importance of family in national and local policymaking, amplify family voices and represent the changing needs of families in the UK today.
In the HR Business Partner role, you will partner with leaders and managers across the organisation, building strong relationships and developing a deep understanding of the services and business areas you support. You will also manage, coach and develop a team of HR Advisers, supporting them to build their expertise and deliver a high-quality HR service.
Alongside this, you will lead on complex change processes, including TUPE transfers and restructures, working collaboratively across HR, Services, and Implementation teams to implement change effectively.
If you have significant HR experience, strong applied knowledge of employee relations and experience supporting complex organisational change, we would like to hear from you. The ability to build trusted relationships, provide pragmatic and solution-focused advice, deliver through others and contribute to the continued development of our people practices will make you an ideal candidate.
We are a supportive and inclusive organisation, and we want to break down barriers to people joining us. If you don’t feel confident applying because you don’t meet every single requirement on the Person Specification – please don’t let that stop you; we want to hear from you. You will undertake holistic assessments, and hold a caseload providing outcome focussed interventions that support resilience and emotional wellbeing. In addition you will be knowledgeable about the wider health determinants which impact on ACH communities and barriers for children, young people and young adults achieving positive outcomes. You will be a warm, empathic individual with an ability to relate to young people and work as part of a team.

Help shape the future of an ambitious local charity
MRS Independent Living supports older people, disabled people and people experiencing mental health challenges to live independently, stay active and remain connected to their communities. We combine practical in-home support with innovative community-led projects that tackle inequalities and improve wellbeing.
We're looking for a Deputy Director who is excited by the opportunity to help lead this established local charity into its next chapter.
This is a role for someone who enjoys thinking strategically while also rolling up their sleeves to make things happen. You'll work alongside the Director to shape our future, develop new services, build partnerships and secure funding. You'll also be happy stepping into day-to-day operations when needed to support the team, maintain continuity and ensure our services are high quality and running smoothly.
Whether your background is primarily in fundraising and you're looking to broaden your operational leadership experience, or you've led services and want to develop your fundraising and strategic skills, this role offers an excellent opportunity to build a well-rounded senior leadership career.
About the role
As Deputy Director you'll provide leadership across our community projects, helping us develop and deliver sustainable, high-quality services that make a real difference to our community.
You'll:
Work with the Director and Board to shape organisational strategy and future development.
Lead fundraising from trusts, foundations, corporate partners and other income sources.
Oversee our community projects, ensuring they deliver expected outcomes.
Support, coach and develop project staff and volunteers.
Build strong partnerships across the voluntary, health and public sectors.
Lead monitoring, evaluation and reporting to demonstrate our impact.
Deputise for the Director when required.
Take a practical, hands-on approach - providing operational support wherever it's needed.
We're looking for someone who has:
Experience in fundraising, service management or both, ideally within the charity and voluntary sector.
Ideas to develop and grow our community work, and the confidence and project management skills to operationalise them.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and support others.
Excellent relationship and partnership-building skills.
A collaborative, adaptable approach with the confidence to switch between strategic thinking and practical delivery.
A commitment to co-production, equity and user-led approaches.
Why join us?
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a respected local charity while developing your own senior leadership experience.
You'll join a small, supportive team where your ideas will influence organisational strategy, new services and long-term sustainability. No two days are the same, and you'll have the opportunity to work across fundraising, operations, partnerships, governance and organisational development—making this an ideal stepping stone towards a Director or CEO role.
If you're looking for a leadership role where you can make a tangible difference to people's lives while broadening your skills and experience, we'd love to hear from you.
