Head of People and Organisational Services
Location: Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, 48-50 Albert Road, St Philips, Bristol BS2 0XA – occasional home-working may be possible subject to business requirements
Contract: Permanent 
ours per week: Part time, 28 hours per week (out of 35 hours FTE). To be worked usually within the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday with consideration of team requirements. Flexibility in hours required on occasion (e.g. trustee’s meetings 6/pa usually in evening and occasional staff and volunteer meetings outside of standard hours).
Salary: £46k – £50k per annum, pro rata depending on experience (£36,800 – £40k actual for 28 hour per week)

About the role:

The Head of People and Organisational Services is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation’s people strategy, volunteer programme, and core organisational services. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with Trustees and senior colleagues, the post holder ensures that the organisation has the right people, structures, systems and culture in place to deliver its mission effectively.

The role provides strategic and operational leadership across HR, volunteering, administration, customer service, safeguarding, data protection and compliance. Leading a multidisciplinary team, the post holder drives high standards of people management, employee wellbeing, volunteer engagement and organisational effectiveness, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of People and Organisational Services contributes to organisational strategy, oversees departmental budgets, manages risk, and supports strong governance and stakeholder relationships. The role plays a critical part in fostering a positive, inclusive and values-led culture, aligned with a strong commitment to animal welfare and making a meaningful impact.

The Partnerships Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering Youth Futures Foundation’s Employer Strategy.

You will embed and scale evidence-based practice across employer networks to create systemic change in how employers recruit, develop and retain young people.

This role focuses on influencing employer behaviour at scale – using evidence, partnerships and networks to embed the evidence of what works across organisations, sectors and places. It does not involve delivering employability support or 1:1 services to employers or young people.

This role can be based at our Birmingham, Leeds or London hub. We currently operate a hybrid model of two-days per week in the office and three-days from home.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the business performance of the home alongside the Registered Manager, delivering agreed income, occupancy, cost and surplus targets
• Ensure high standards of service, cleanliness and hospitality through effective leadership of housekeeping, catering and maintenance teams

Communications 

• Develop, contribute to and implement impact-driven and strategic communications campaigns that build Kineara’s fundraising capacity and raise awareness of the issues 

• Develop brand identity for Kineara’s new charitable arm, ensuring it is consistent across all activities in the organisation, while maintaining Kineara’s overall ‘look and feel’ to ensure coherence in branding, colours, messaging, style and approach. 

• Manage the creation, development, distribution of compelling, impact-driven story-telling about Kineara’s work and beneficiaries using interviews, blogs, case studies, etc. 

• Use a range of platforms to distribute print and electronic content including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, leaflets, posters reports, e-newsletters, and Kineara’s website 

• Work closely with IT and business managers to ensure smooth running of internal communications 

Fundraising 

• Develop positive relationships with a range of stakeholders providing funding to charities, including in the third sector, public sector, and the business sector, to raise awareness and promote our work 

• Write grant and tender applications, and manage and coordinate work of external consultants supporting grant writing process where applicable 

• Manage and administer online fundraising platforms, and develop accessible, persuasive campaigns for public donations.

Impact

This role is home-based with mobile working. Your home base needs to be in Wales (or close to the border - e.g. in Chester) as on a weekly basis you can expect to work across Wales to meet with supporters face to face approximately 2 to 3 days a week. As such, you must have a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle or the ability to travel frequently across the region. 

There will be a requirement to attend in-person team meetings based in the area on a quarterly basis and other parts of the UK when our wider fundraising territory and department get together. 

There will also be a requirement for flexible and out of hours working to support occasional evening and weekend activity and you will be compensated for this with time off in lieu.

We’re looking for an HR Advisor to join our HR Business Partnering team and make a real difference in a mission-led organisation. In this role, you’ll support the delivery of a professional, high-quality HR service to the Caring Services directorate, working closely with HR Business Partners to help managers and teams navigate a wide range of people matters.

You’ll provide trusted, practical advice to managers and employees on the full spectrum of HR and employee relations issues, underpinned by sound employment law knowledge and best practice. From managing absence and performance issues to supporting formal ER processes, you’ll play a key role in enabling managers to act confidently, fairly and consistently. 

This role offers a collaborative environment with strong support from your Business Partnering colleagues, while also providing significant flexibility and autonomy in managing your daily responsibilities.  

Your Impact: 

• Working in partnership with HR colleagues to deliver a responsive, high-quality HR service aligned to regional needs and wider organisational objectives. 

• Providing professional advice and hands-on support to managers on misconduct, capability, absence and performance matters, including acting as the HR representative at disciplinary and performance meetings. 

• Proactively managing short- and long-term sickness absence cases, liaising with Occupational Health and supporting managers to take appropriate action. 

• Preparing and analysing HR management information and reports to support senior leaders in identifying trends and developing effective action plans. 

• Working closely with Payroll and HR Services to resolve queries within agreed timescales and ensure a smooth employee experience 

• Supporting local recruitment activity, HR workshops, and project work as required. 

Key Criteria: 

• Solid experience in a generalist HR role, providing advice to managers on best-practice HR approaches, including change management. 

• Recent experience working in a fast-paced, multi-site organisation. 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to handle sensitive and complex employee relations situations professionally and tactfully. 

• Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously. 

• Good working knowledge of current employment legislation and its practical application. 

• Experience working with trade unions is desirable. 

• Experience within healthcare, social care or the charity sector is an advantage, but not essential.

To manage and develop our community service department to ensure that all elderly and terminally ill pet owners receive help from our volunteers nationwide To lead and motivate all Community Service teams, encompassing the volunteer coordinators, the support team and the volunteer registration team to ensure an excellent standard of service is given to both volunteers and owners alike. To be responsible for ensuring a prompt, appropriate and sympathetic reply to all communications and correspondence within the department. To work closely with Community Service Manager to deliver a smooth, coherent and first class service to everyone we assist both during the working day, evenings and weekends. This post will require a good overall understanding of the needs of elderly people and their pets, ability to problem solve and experience of motivating and managing staff. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 .VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR LEVEL I & LEVEL II I)

To lead and motivate all Volunteer Co-coordinators Level I & Level II on a day-to-day basis to ensure they are properly trained and competent to deliver the appropriate level and quality of service to all petitioners when handling any request for help. II) Once identified, to refer any difficult and problematic cases to the CEO or the Community Service Manager for prompt action and feedback. III) To work closely with the Community Service manager and volunteer coordinators Level II to ensure delivery of our on-call emergency service both midweek and weekends and deputise for the Community Service Manager in her absence and time off.

IV) In collaboration with the Community Service Manager, to appropriately schedule the out of hours rota to ensure cover at all times for our emergency service.

V) To be contactable out of hours, if needed over the evenings and weekends.

VI) To ensure a Monday morning debrief with the Community Service Manager and weekend coordinator, to log, discuss and resolve any issues that have arisen.

VII) To manage and develop a mentoring scheme for volunteer coordinators Level I to enable them, in time, to progress to a Level II role.

VIII) To mentor all volunteer coordinators Level II to ensure they are reaching their targets and sustaining an excellent level of service.

2.THE SUPPORT TEAM

I) To lead and motivate a team of individuals to ensure an outstanding level of support is provided throughout all communications across the entire support team.

II) To support and mentor the Community Support Manager to help facilitate the delivery of a smooth, coherent and first class service to everyone we help.

III) To ensure any problems with volunteers are quickly identified, addressed and referred if needed for extra assistance.

3.OTHER

I) To ensure all relevant correspondence and communications across the Community Service Department are answered promptly and sympathetically.

II) To produce weekly reports for the Chief Executive in collaboration with the Community Service Manager, to detail work of the team that is, especially happy, unhappy, unusual, interesting, serendipitous etc.

III) To liaise with all other members of The Trust in a flexible manner.

IV) To be familiar with and adhere to procedures and protocols, disciplinary and applicable rules and ensure compliance with legislation (Health and Safety, Date Protection, especially the privacy of members, petitioners and volunteers alike).

V) At all times to ensure and maintain a compassionate, professional and efficient public image for the Trust. Together with such additional general duties as the Employer shall reasonably require, having regard to the needs of the Employer’s business as a Charitable Trust.

About the Role

The Events & Community Fundraising Manager is an integral part of our ambitious and forward-thinking Fundraising & Communications team.

This postholder will deliver The Connection at St Martin’s Events and Community Fundraising activity. They will line manage the Events & Community Fundraising Assistant, with a particular focus on their work on our annual Pilgrimage event. They will work in conjunction with the Director of Fundraising & Communications to develop and implement an action plan for these important functions.  

This role will develop, manage and grow an enthusiastic and motivated team of challenge event participants, pioneer our involvement in the collaborative London Walk event, lead on our emerging Special Events programme, and identify new opportunities and networks for our Community Fundraising remit.

This role requires someone with a strong track record in Events and Community Fundraising, with a solutions-focussed mindset. They will need experience in translating sector best practice into action, and to be excited at the prospect of innovating and pursuing new Events and Community Fundraising opportunities for the organisation.

Salary: £41,599 - £45,097 (scale points 26-30)
