The ideal candidate will be committed to a system change approach to secure climate and social justice. You will be an excellent communicator, with sound political judgement, and knowledge of developing and practically implementing a movement building approach to create lasting change. You will have a good understanding of the Scottish political context, social movements and how change happens, with success in having made it happen. You will bring significant experience in the third sector, in a senior or leadership role, and of financial management and governance. You will value and prioritise ongoing reflection and learning, both on a personal and organisational level. About us: 

Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change. We are now looking for a Climate Economics & Diplomacy Senior Director to expand our work on a climate just economy.

What’s the role? 

Economics is the study of the distribution of finite resources across our planet. And yet the profession often seems to forget that resources really are finite, and that distribution must be equitable. The number one argument we hear against most climate measures is economic: what about growth? What about jobs? What’s the business case? Opportunity Green’s Senior Director will develop our narrative to ward off these questions but more fundamentally, bring economics systems change – and how to influence policymakers to incorporate this change into their thinking - to the forefront of all our work. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for any economist who believes that the climate movement needs more economic expertise and can bring ideas on how to embed the necessary change in economic thinking to climate policy. You will be OG’s first economist hire (other than the CEO) and you will have the opportunity to shape our economics strategy.

Initially you will work with our established international shipping policy team, working to ensure that the shipping sector which is historically undertaxed, begins to contribute in financial terms to climate vulnerable countries. Meanwhile, many large shipping companies have large revenue which goes to shareholders in the global north. One of your first projects could be to assess the current geographical imbalance of financial flows from the shipping industry, and work alongside our international shipping team to reimagine the economics of the shipping sector to meet our climate goals. 

A very similar argument can be made on the aviation side. The EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) currently only covers intra-EU flights but soon a discussion will be had on whether that should also cover international flights. Opportunity Green believes the EU ETS should cover international flights and that, very importantly, some of the ETS revenue must go to support the climate vulnerable. We are looking for someone who can support both these goals but more fundamentally, raise the profile of both sectors as potential sources of climate finance in broader international climate finance discussions.

However, we recognise that agreeing to raise revenue from aviation and shipping sectors is only the first step. The next step will be to ensure that those revenues actually reach climate vulnerable communities. The Senior Director will work with the international shipping team to expand OG’s policy on the distribution of revenues, with the explicit goal of maximising their support for climate vulnerable communities. You will follow international climate finance discussions and strategically intervene for OG when our goals can be supported. 

Initially you will report to the CEO, while the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer is on parental leave. You will manage a team of three, with one direct line report initially, who are already well established in supporting climate vulnerable countries in the International Maritime Organization.

About the candidate: 

We are looking for someone who can think strategically about how to gain the support of policymakers in the global north to support the most climate vulnerable across the world.

• An inspirational leadership style, who is brave enough to tell the truth about the climate crisis but is also respectful of international policymakers, who can use detailed economic arguments to inspire ambition. 

Desirable skills and experience: 

We do not expect any candidate to have all the skills listed below but rather we look for transferable skills and potential as well as past experience. 

• Economics degree or equivalent working experience 
• Experience working with policymakers to improve and drive ambition 
• Experience of generating ideas to drive economics systems change and crafting an easily understandable narrative that can be communicated to policymakers around that change 
• Ability to get to grips with technological and policy detail around aviation, shipping, buildings, steel and agriculture as necessary and to know when that detail is needed in policymaker meetings 
• Experience of leading a team and working with staff to inspire the greatest possible impact, including remote staff 
• Ability to clearly articulate a theory of change and direct a team to articulate that theory of change 
• Active listening skills, negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
• An engaging public speaker 
• Ability to think critically, independently and creatively
• Effective at building relationships at all levels of the organisation 
• Experience of philanthropy and fundraising for an NGO

The successful candidate will be offered an annual salary of £80,000 plus 10% employer-contributed pension. Please note that OG has fixed salary scales, with the possibility of step increases with strong performance. Financial Controller

Role information

Role purpose

As we continue our exciting growth plans into 2024 to deliver on our ambitious goals and refreshed strategy, we’re looking for a Financial Controller to join our team.

This is a critical finance leadership appointment, with regular interaction with both the Leadership team and Board, as well as an extensive business partnering remit to enhance financial decision making across our strategic priorities and create a culture of continuous improvement.

You will have the ability to influence the strategic financial planning and reporting within Fair4All Finance, therefore you will have a real passion for driving process/business improvement (including automation) and capturing data insights to support our impact.

Some key responsibilities include:

· Direct, coordinate and maintain the finance and accounting function so that all financial reporting properly reflects the financial position, forecast and utilisation of funds

· Take charge of comprehensive and timely statutory financial reporting / filing in compliance with FRS 102 and Companies House, liaising with external auditors / The Oversight Trust, and supporting the presentation of the annual accounts and critical areas to the Board / Committees

· Drive the continual improvement of the financial control environment and systems surrounding all aspects of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and end user financial information systems and workflows

· Oversee liquidity management, including the review of banking arrangements/fraud prevention services and the regular evaluation of cash burn rate

· Partner with the Investments team to support due diligence, valuation and financial reporting/monitoring of the social investment portfolio

To be successful, your experience and capability will include:

· A relevant accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA)

· Proven experience in financial management, with strong skills in developing or enhancing financial reports and the ability to review and improve system requirements for Finance

· Experienced in people management with a demonstrable commitment to mentoring and development, and an effective, inclusive, and authentic coach and collaborator

· Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills and self assurance in Leadership/Board level collaboration and engagement with non finance people

· Evidence of strong analytical and data evaluation skills to inform strategic decisions

Desirable experience and capabilities

It would be great if you also have:

· Senior management experience, preferably in a non profit and/or financial services context

· Previous FRS 102 accounting experience and strong understanding of accounting standards and disclosures in annual accounts

· Experience working alongside investment/commercial professionals on social impact/financial inclusion

In this pivotal role as Workforce Initiatives Manager you will be responsible for the successful development and delivery of initiatives to support us in fulfilling our overarching goal of growing the UK workforce in our specialties of Clinical Radiology and Clinical Oncology, ensuring that quality and impact are at the heart of our plans.

With a focus on the strategic development side of the team you will cultivate information into initiatives such as the development of curricula or standards but also ongoing initiatives which will serve to increase routes into the workforce for both existing and emerging groups of doctors and allied health professionals. Leading and motivating a high-performing and dedicated team to do so.  

What you’ll do:

• Manage the development and implementation of new versions of the postgraduate curricula for our specialities.
• Establish and implement necessary quality assurance mechanisms and initiative.
• Oversee the provision of support for ancillary workforce development initiatives.
• Undertake market research to evaluate the viability of proposed new workforce initiatives, targeting those with the greatest reach and impact.
• Lead, motivate performance manage and develop a team.

What you’ll need:

• Experience of curriculum development or experience of innovation in training programmes or teaching.
• Experience of programme/project management.
• Experience in developing funding bids/building cogent business cases.
• Knowledge and understanding of UK healthcare workforce strategy, including postgraduate medical education.

We are looking for a talented fundraiser, with a background in the cultural sector to join the Gardens, Libraries & Museums (GLAM) Team within the Development and Alumni Engagement team of the University of Oxford.

You will be working with such iconic institutions as the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Oxford Botanic Gardens, the History of Science Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  In this role in any given week you might see a dodo, extraordinary thousand-year old Chinese ceramics, insects collected by Darwin, the first scientifically described dinosaur and drawings by John Ruskin, as well as work on projects involving saving the largest flower in the world or supporting world-leading restitution work.

The collections are important and renowned on their own accounts, but also play a key role in the University’s research.  In addition, they are the open doors to the University of Oxford, encouraging a diverse range of communities to engage our academics and curators.

Your role will include fundraising for major gifts to support the museums and gardens, and leading a team of fundraisers who will work to support a wide range of activities across the institutions.  You will also work closely with the Directors and other curators to raise funds from a range of donors and supporters. You will work with the Associate Director of Development – GLAM to develop strategies and manage relationships with the Directors and be part of the wider fundraising team for GLAM.
