Job description

Ref: RMM-241

Are you a proactive, target-driven and collaborative individual with a proven record of assessing vocational qualifications to adults facing disadvantage and possess the ability to support people who have multiple and complex needs?  Looking for an exciting new career opportunity?

If so, join St Giles Trust as Resolution Mentor embedded within a prison-based team at HMP Werrington, where you will play an integral role on an innovative proposal designed to develop interventions promoting preventative approaches, utilising our highly regarded Peer Advice, and providing a gateway to mentoring programme.

About St Giles Trust

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need.  Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

About this key role

Reporting to the ReBuild Youth Team Leader, you will be responsible for delivering the weekly session on Induction, supporting the ‘Resolving Disagreements’ team to provide ongoing one-to-one mentoring to CYP, as well as supporting sessions on transitions to other establishments or community.  You will work with allocated learners to produce realistic assessment plans, provide one-to-one support to learners as appropriate and monitor their progress towards timely completion and certification, plus ensure that you assess learners using a range of assessment methods appropriate for the vocational qualification assessment criteria.

We will also rely on you to liaise and work in co-operation with the Trust’s internal quality assurers to ensure compliance with standards, to attend and participate in internal and external meetings, best practice seminars and continuous professional development opportunities, and to undertake all the administration necessary for tracking learner progress.  Working constructively with colleagues to achieve project targets, responding to requests for information and supporting local community projects with advertising, recruiting, and facilitating ROTLS are also important aspects of the role.

What we are looking for

  • Experience of working to targets and recording information to enable effective performance monitoring
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent assessor certification)
  • Understanding of the issues faced by participants in accessing and sustaining training or employment
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge of the issues faced by our client group
  • Demonstrable ability to support and motivate learners with multiple complex needs
  • Proven ability to apply a creative approach to assessing
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Successful candidates must undergo an Enhanced DBS check, on the basis that the post involves contact with vulnerable participants and colleagues.

In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, clinical therapist sessions, life insurance (4 x annual salary), duvet days, season ticket loan, employee perks programme, eye care voucher and much more.

As an organisation that works with children and adults at risk we are committed to safeguarding, protecting, and promoting the safety of our clients. An enhanced DBS check with barred list is required for all successful applicants.

Closing date: 11pm, Monday 17 June 2024         Interviews: W/c 24 June 2024

St Giles will guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria set out in the Job Description for the vacancy.

We are an equity and inclusion-confident employer. We welcome all applications and we particularly encourage applications from people of the global majority (black, brown, multi-heritage) and those who identify as disabled, neuroexpansive, neurodiverse, with any protected characteristics and/or social barriers or challenges. We value the empowering and informative impact that all lived experiences and diversity of thought can offer the organisation.
