Child Bereavement UK is delighted to have been awarded a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund and we are now starting the process of establishing a new Bereavement Support Service in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to join Child Bereavement UK as we look to recruit a full time Bereavement Support Service Lead, to lead and manage a team to set up a new service in Birmingham that will provide bereavement support to individuals, couples, families and in group settings.

The postholder will lead in the provision, coordination, evaluation and ongoing development of a new bereavement support service in Birmingham. The new service will ensure that families and professionals can access high-quality bereavement support when a baby or child has died, or when children or young people are bereaved. They will also support the strategic development of the Charity’s service in Birmingham.

In this role you will:

• Lead/manage/contribute to establishing and developing the provision of a blended model of bereavement support in Birmingham
• Provide training, consultancy and support for professionals whose work brings them into contact with bereaved families
• Collaborate with partners to establish and develop a bereavement support services in Birmingham
• Work closely with The National Lottery Community Fund to ensure all outcomes of the project are achieved through regular monitoring and reporting.

• Manage a caseload and provide a programme of individual and couple sessions and to develop and provide facilitated Groups for Parents bereaved of a baby or child.
• Contribute to the provision of a programme of individual and family support sessions, Groups for Families, Groups for Young People and school liaison.

In partnership with HMP Liverpool and Liverpool City Council we run CAMEO (Come and Meet Each Other) a programme which offers a supportive, caring and stimulating environment for older people in prison. As Assistant Manager you will assist in setting up an innovative and engaging day centre which will provide meaningful activity and positive relationships, improves wellbeing, reduces social isolation and offers opportunities for rehabilitative interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build positive relationships with service users and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with internal and external agencies in order to develop innovative and collaborative approaches to meet the needs of the prisoner cohort
• Assist the Manager in ensuring that all relevant administration, data collection and analysis is collated and reported on, including monthly and annual reports to line management
• Be an active part of the wider CAMEO team, bringing meaningful contributions to team meetings, departmental strategy and development of the wider CAMEO programme
• Contribute to any security checks, planning and risk assessments as needed
• Undergo training in safeguarding, security awareness, conditioning and manipulation awareness, and other HMPPS/TSA training deemed necessary by line management

To succeed, you will need:

• Good experience of delivering a successful support programme to service users in a prison, probation service or social care setting
• Good experience of working collaboratively with multiple agencies and stakeholders
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop successful and collaborative working relationships with service users and colleagues, including vulnerable client cohorts

Climate Change Adaptation Officer
Salary: £31,000 - £35,000

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report laid out in March 2023, we are now on the brink of irrevocable damage from climate change; this is our ‘final warning’ and the time is now for action to address this crisis.

The report highlighted that restoring nature was one of the key actions needed to address this issue. Somerset Wildlife Trust are at the forefront of this work in Somerset and are fully committed to this path through our Wilder Somerset 2030 Strategy and to delivering a vision whereby we reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.

Developing and further embedding the ‘Act to Adapt’ process, through our ‘Adapting Somerset’ and ‘Somerset’s Wilder Coast’ projects to support communities and to develop plans to adapt their local areas to the impacts of climate change.

Responsibility 1: Providing leadership and technical expertise

Being proactive and nurture strong relationships by:

• Providing leadership on SWT Climate Change Nature Adaptation work.
• Working closely with the Local Nature Partnership Coordinator and Advocacy Manager, and wider project team from partner organisations, to develop and deliver a programme of online and in-person communications, meetings and workshops. This is designed to foster climate change adaptation in the county supporting nature’s recovery and community resilience, and therefore involves working closely with farmers and landowners, all layers of local council, infrastructure experts, academics and the general public, including communities already impacted by flooding.
• Providing line management to the Climate Adaptation Assistant.
• Continuing developing the RAD approach for priority habitats, alongside the Landscape Recovery team, which will contribute to managing land within internationally important wetlands.
• Keeping abreast of national and international climate change developments and relate these to Somerset.

Responsibility 2: Engagement with Communities and Creating Robust Partnerships

Lead engagement efforts by:

• Contributing to discussions and workstreams developing climate change adaptation pathways at a county level, and in specific local areas relating to flooding, drought and wildfire.
• Developing information for a lay audience regarding the role of nature in reducing the impacts of climate change, including: sea-level rise; predicted changes in land use; warming, etc. and to help people understand what the future may bring especially in Somerset’s more vulnerable nature habitats.
• Supporting people’s wider understanding of the role of nature to mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration and storage.
• Continuing the rollout of the Act to Adapt process in local communities, organising events and workshops and using the Climate Adaptation Toolkit to explain the process of developing community and nature based solutions to the big issues of climate change.

Responsibility 3: Developing sustainable projects and evaluation

Lead and support projects and reporting by:

• Working with the Somerset Local Nature Recovery Strategy team to incorporate climate adaptation and vulnerability principles to these priorities.
• Assisting with work to share information and project developments with project partners in the UK.
• Developing and implement a communications plan that raises awareness of the project and its impact; garners support; and highlights Somerset as a place at the frontline for climate change. This will include engagement through social media and the production of awareness materials in printed and online formats.
• Managing the budget of the Adapting Somerset project and keep track of time contributions to the ELM’s Landscape Recovery and Somerset’s Wilder Coast projects.
• Monitoring and evaluating progress and impact, meeting project milestones and reporting to funders.
• Representing SWT externally in meetings, in the media and by giving presentations to various audiences.

Overview of the Role

As a Welfare Benefits Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals in making benefit claims and accessing the support they need. You will join a busy team that supports thousands of disabled people and carers across the borough and specifically provide a bespoke home visiting service to our most vulnerable clients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Benefit Claims Assistance:

   • Provide guidance and support to individuals in understanding their eligibility for various welfare benefits, including Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, and Attendance Allowance.

   • Assist clients in completing benefit application forms accurately and efficiently.

   • Stay updated on changes to welfare benefit regulations and policies to provide accurate information to clients.

2. Home Visiting Service:

   • Conduct home visits to assess clients' needs and provide personalised support in accessing welfare benefits.

   • Develop tailored action plans in collaboration with clients to maximise their benefit entitlements and improve their financial stability.

3. Client Empowerment and Education:

   • Empower clients through education about their rights and responsibilities within the benefits system.

About the role 

Smart Works Reading exists to empower all women who need help getting into work. We aim to support 1000 clients with our Interview and Preparation service per year. As such, we require vital funding from Grants, Trusts, Corporates and Foundations to enable us to achieve our mission. We also need support to deliver our annual calendar of corporate events.

We are seeking a Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to join our small and ambitious team. The successful candidate will build a strong pipeline of grant funders, gifts from Trusts & Foundations, and corporate donations, incorporating both core and restricted funding.

The successful candidate will report directly into our Board of Trustees, and work alongside our small staff team, with the objective of maximizing local funding opportunities, expanding our portfolio of grant funders and corporate donations, and attendant relationships, and contributing to a growth in income for the charity. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and identifying prospective funders and corporate partners, writing and submitting high-quality applications and proposals, and delivering excellent grant management, donation and stewardship updates. They will also work closely with the Events Trustees to deliver an exciting calendar of corporate and community fundraising events, and lead our annual sport challenge, Cycle for Smart Works.

We are seeking a proactive self-starter, with experience in philanthropic fundraising and relationship management, excellent written communication skills and demonstrable attention to detail. We would also love to hear if you have experience working with grant applications and/or funding proposals and using a range of tools to identify new funding opportunities.

Smart Works Reading is a collaborative environment, with dynamic teams and ambitious plans across the UK. It is a rewarding national community with regular liaison with the London Charity Partnerships and Fundraising Team.

• Maintain database with relevant income tracking and pipeline data to facilitate regular KPI and financial reporting to the Board of Trustees. 
• Lead our annual signature corporate challenge - Cycle for Smart Works - to target income c. £25k, including managing the project locally from planning to delivery, identifying and onboarding corporate and community participant teams and stewardship of the programme.
• Securing one-year and multi-year grants from a range of Trusts and Foundations, including traditional grant funders, local charities, family foundations and corporate foundations to meet income targets c. 100k. 
• Researching and identifying prospective grant funders, and corporates, donors and individuals who could support Smart Works Reading, and building and maintaining long-term relationships.
• Writing high-quality grant applications, working collaboratively with the Chair of the Board and staff team to deliver creative and compelling proposals for both core and restricted funding.
• Maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective funders, including the preparation of impact reports and sharing regular updates on grant management.
• Maintaining an accurate data record of pledged, banked and prospective income for the Reading centre, working in collaboration with Smart Works Charity to maintain local management accounts. 
• Representing Smart Works Reading to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences to generate income and raise brand awareness within the local community.
• Support the Events Trustee with stewardship of fashion and retail partners, including venue and catering supporters, as well as our corporate partners supporting the charity.
• Support the delivery of our signature fundraising events, including high-end supporter events and fashion sales, where the Events Trustee manages the project from concept to execution and ensures income targets are met.
• Developing and implementing new initiatives to raise funds for the charity, for example, Fashion Club, following other centre’s initiatives.

• Experience generating income of at least five figures from philanthropic income. Demonstrable experience securing corporate partnerships.
• Experience in cultivating strong and positive relationships, both internally and externally, with multiple and senior stakeholders.
• Presentation skills, to prospective partners and able to tell the Smart Works story. 
• Experience working with grant applications and/or funding proposals, presentations, and utilising arrange of tools to identify new funding opportunities.

About the Service

The Youth Mental Health Navigator supports young people who have been referred to the CAMHS front door/single point of access. About the Role

This role will provide individualised, one to one support to young people, aged 14-17 who are currently experiencing difficulty with their mental health and wellbeing.

This post holder will be working closely with clinical colleagues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team offering hybrid in person and online support. The post holder will also be responsible for the development of pathways which enables young people to access services offered by the Voluntary and Community sector.

The post holder will ensure they have a good understanding of the services on offer by the Voluntary and Community sector, and other agencies, and will work with individuals to help them access services of their choice.

The Youth Mental Health Navigator will offer mental health and wellbeing support in a safe and enabling service, supporting young people to explore their challenges and identify positive mental health coping strategies, resilience skills, distress tolerance and a solution focused approach to recovery that will help to future proof against potential repeated incidences of poor mental health.

About this key role

Our successful candidate will complete initial needs assessments with young women and support them to develop individual action plans and regularly review them to assess progress, plus undertake risk assessments and regular holistic needs assessments of each individual.  You will develop safety and care plans with each client and their families, ensuring that they are equipped to understand the factors which can make them vulnerable, put them at risk and know where to access support if they need to, while also delivering ongoing dynamic risk and contextual safeguarding assessments.

• To have worked on an offender-led support project, had personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of London 

• Experience in negotiation with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project

• Experience in working in local community-based projects

• To have a relevant qualification to a good standard, or be working towards one

• An understanding of the Government’s Prevent (anti extremism) programme

• Knowledge of services for offenders and patterns of offending in London borough/s
