We are looking for an Independent Living Advisor to provide advice, support and advocacy for people living with long term illness or disabilities, or caring for someone with these conditions, helping them to access appropriate support services.
As an Independent Living Advisor, you will:
- Provide a comprehensive independent living advice service to people experiencing difficulties with day-to-day living, mobility, and self-care, or to those caring for someone in this situation, ensuring they have sufficient and appropriate information to make informed choices, working in a way which empowers them to take and maintain control of their own lives
- Complete person-centred and holistic assessments, using information from Occupational Therapists and other health and social care professionals as necessary, to establish their eligibility for support services in their area, and provide advice on support options available to people via statutory, charitable, and private sources.
- Provide a person-centred support service within a designated region to include some home visits, and other face-to-face activities in local communities as required.
- Manage a diverse and often complex caseload covering matters relating to care assessments and care fees, Disabled Facilities Grants, equipment and minor adaptations, Direct Payments, personal budgets, disability advocacy, and access to other funding streams as appropriate.

The Service:
The service facilitates peer support and delivery of monthly workshops and drop- ins. The service will provide first-class, person-centred information, advice and guidance to people with learning disabilities through both one-to-one and group support.
The Role:
You will provide relevant and accurate information, support, guidance and signposting including both one-to-one and group support for people with complex issues. Support will be flexibly based operating out of a central Bromley office but delivered at various venues across the borough. You will act in a key working capacity where necessary, ensuring services are joined up and holistic, provide advocacy and attend case management meetings as required.

Our Helpline runs from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic, warm and experienced individual to support our dedicated Helpline Volunteers and Befriending Volunteers within the Helpline team.
This role requires working flexible hours, including 9am–5pm, 10am–6pm or 11am–7pm between Monday to Friday to meet services and volunteer needs (3 days a week).

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.
You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.
You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.
Main functions
Supporting young people and the JUMP Community
- Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
- Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
- Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.
Supervising and supporting volunteers
- Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
- Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
- Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.
Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders
- Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.

LGBTQ+ Heritage Project Worker

Q:alliance provides support, information and representation for the LGBTQ+ people who live, work and play in Milton Keynes and Bedford. We have detailed knowledge of the issues and challenges that organisations and individuals face locally. It’s our goal to create more safe spaces and resources to ensure the LGBTQ+ community is well represented and supported.
This exciting new role will help deliver the directives of a history and heritage project funded by the Heritage Lottery. The project will support the erudition of LGBTQ+ heritage in Milton Keynes, advancing local communities’ understanding of Milton Keynes’ LGBTQ+ history and inspiring a commitment to encapsulating, celebrating, and feeling connected through shared heritage. This post will be key to extending our reach into seldom asked communities, as well as securing relationships with founding community members. This role will support our Communications and Engagement Manager to develop safer spaces for LGBTQ+ local communities through collaboration with partner agencies and delivery of LGBTQ+ cultural competency training to a range of stakeholders involved in the wider project.
You will work cross-departmentally and participate in effective monitoring systems to ensure robust reporting.

• E-book creation – Support the Communications and Engagement Manager on the development of an E-book to capture the outputs of the project, including key heritage findings and personal stories.
• Event coordination – Plan, organise and support the delivery of history clubs in line with the project plan, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of invested community members. Support the curation of associated exhibition events.
• Stakeholder and community engagement – Work with the Communications and Engagement Manager to plan engagement and outreach activities in line with the directives of the funded project. What you’ll bring to the team
You will serve as a prominent point of contact for the LGBTQ+ Heritage Project and encourage long-term advocates of our organisation and the community’s engagement in history, heritage and legacy work. You will elevate the team’s commitment to the funded project, providing concentrated time and resources to ensure its success. You will improve the ways in which our team communicates and responds to the needs of seldom heard members of the LGBTQ+ local community, inspiring innovation in our engagement with heritage concepts.
The Project Assistant will have responsibility for the following documents.
• Heritage Lottery Grantee Monitoring documents and final report
• Monthly reports to the Communications and Engagement Manager

Salary: Band DP3 (2) - £23,550 FTE this is £18,840 actual for 28 hours a week and £14,130 for 21 hours a week

We are looking to recruit a self-motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working experienced Information & Advice Officer to join our organisation.
You will be committed to providing up-to-date information and advice to older people and their carers in outreach locations, via telephone, online and face to face. Working to approved quality standards, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of providing advice covering a range of topics including (but not exclusively); Welfare Benefits, Housing, Social Care and local services.

This is fixed term contract funded initially until November 30th 2024 and subject to review and funding thereafter.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Provide advice covering a range of topics including (but not exclusively); Welfare Benefits, Housing, Social Care and local services.
- Provide support in managing financial issues, maximising income, payment plans, budgeting and claiming welfare benefits.
- Provide support to older people to build personal and wider community resilience and live healthier and more connected lives in their own homes for as long as possible, thereby, reducing isolation, loneliness and increasing their independence.
- Provide support with available housing options, e.g., private rented, social housing, shared accommodation.
- Work with partners to obtaining aids and adaptations to assist individuals in remaining independent in their home and reducing the impact of frailty.
- Develop a working knowledge of the information resources and office systems, which support the advice service, using them effectively and contributing to their continuous improvement.
- Keep up to date on relevant changes in the law, policies, and procedures, both locally and nationally, as they apply to and affect older people and their carers.
- To provide and maintain statistical information and case records in line with data protection regulations.
- Contribute to the maintenance of local information systems.
- To work as part of a team with other advice staff and volunteers.
- To liaise with outside agencies including Social Services and Department for Works and Pensions on behalf of clients, and for the purpose of establishing close working links.
- To make home / outreach visits as necessary
- To assist with the training and supervision of the advice volunteers.
- Promote the service to local partners and those over 50.
Experience of delivering Welfare Benefits Advice is required.
We are looking for someone to run our helpline and perform general administration office duties from our Birmingham office. A large part of this role is to provide emotional support to traumatically bereaved members when required.
Candidates must have a history of providing emotional support to emontionally distressed or vulnerable people.
The Office Assistant will be accountable to the Office Co-ordinator, and they must be able to fulfil a variety of administration and digital tasks. They will also assist staff and trustees in the delivery of the charity’s projects and possess good digital and face to face communication skills.
