About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Financial Controller to oversee the daily operations of our finance department. This key role ensures accurate financial accounting, effective management of payroll processes, and the control of cash resources. You will work closely with the Director of Finance and Operations to produce robust management accounts, forecasts, and budgets, and manage ad hoc finance projects as needed. Your expertise will ensure that our internal financial controls are both appropriate and effectively operated. The role would suit an experienced Finance Manager or a Financial/Management Accountant looking to take a step up into a broader finance role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the day to day running of a small finance team.
- Produce monthly management accounts and support budget holders in financial planning.
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions.
- Oversee the management of reporting systems and ensure timely payment of suppliers.
- Manage monthly bank reconciliations, cash flow updates, and ensure proper authorization of payments.
- Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely payment to staff, tax, and pension bodies.
- Manage tax compliance, including VAT returns, and produce statutory accounts.
- Prepare audit files and manage the audit process.
- Assist with the development of business intelligence tools.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Qualified or part-qualified with ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICSA, or fully qualified with AAT or equivalent.
- Strong management accounting and project management experience.
- Excellent analytical skills with a commercial perspective.
- Proficient in Excel with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in an arts organization, charity sector, or working on capital projects.
- Familiarity with SORP, Sage 50, and Xero.

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover. You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.
This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England.
You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

Unfazed by working mostly alone, you’ll be incredibly organised with your time and workload to ensure processes are handled in a timely and accurate fashion. Ideally, you’ll be passionate about the work that we do both as a professional arts organisation and also as a small charity based in Bedfordshire with altruistic values.
You’ll have experience of working with small organisations and charities, knowledgeable about the areas of financial control that you will be our expert on.
The role is an employee position for one day per week, however we are open to discuss flexibility of working hours and the possibility of freelance working with the successful candidate.

Terms and Conditions
Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per week (1 day). These hours can be worked flexibly.

Salary: The full-time equivalent salary for this position is £40,000 – 45,000 per annum (pro rata to 7.5 hours per week).
Location: Home-working.

We are looking for a Management Accountant to join the National Theatre Finance Team on a 6 month contract.
Purpose of the role:
The purpose of this role is to provide management accounting support for the National Theatre and to assist the Management Accountant in providing quality financial reporting to Producing and Production stakeholders. The post-holder will work closely with finance colleagues and key stakeholders providing timely and accurate information.
The successful candidate will have the following:

The post holder must be part-qualified in a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or be qualified by experience.

What you’ll be doing

Your day is likely to involve:

Key duties of the role are as follows:

- Process accruals, deferrals, and other accounting adjustments, including at financial year end
About You
- You will be a part-qualified, finalist or fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent)
- You will have hands-on knowledge of supporting in the production of management accounts and experience of or the ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders to advise on budgets

As part of our Finance team, you will report to the Head of Finance, supporting with the smooth function of finance operations across all teams at Storyhouse.
You will be responsible for supporting with the preparation of the management accounts, ownership of the sales order process and credit control, ownership of the cash book, and supporting other tasks, as well as ad hoc duties across the Finance team.

Owing to internal promotion, this role will work in the organisations finance business partnering function, to ensure a high-quality business partnering and financial management service that is aligned with the organisation’s strategic priorities.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Preparation of the monthly management accounts, monitoring and reporting on the actuals vs forecast performances for their areas.
