The Head of Development will support Matthew Bourne’s artistic vision by leading on the development and delivery of the New Adventures Fundraising Strategy to maximise voluntary income, particularly through Trusts and Foundations and Major Gifts. The post holder will work proactively to identify, cultivate engage and maintain excellent relationships with new and current donors and supporters as well as supporting the cultivation and stewardship of Corporate Supporters.
JOB PURPOSE
Following a period of significant growth, Global Grooves is looking to appoint a highly experienced and strategic fundraising professional with a proven track record of securing significant income through bid writing, tenders, corporate partnerships and other fundraising to join our team.
Working with our senior management team and board to help shape organisational strategy and align fundraising activity to meet ambitious goals, the right candidate will leverage their experience and contacts to consolidate existing income streams and identify new opportunities for growth.

Contract: Minimum 2 year fixed term contract, extension possible.

The purpose of the role is to plan and deliver strategically the fundraising required for the ongoing success of NCO, enabling this important national music organisation to develop and deliver its mission.
Main Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
Working with the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Committee to set and lead on the development of NCO’s development strategy, setting fundraising targets in line with strategic objectives.
Oversee all fundraising activity and report to the Chief Executive, NCO Board and Finance Committee on progress towards income targets.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, represent the Development function to ensure full account is taken of development potential whilst contributing towards the leadership and strategic direction of NCO.
Individual Giving
Lead on re-establishing NCO’s Individual Giving programme, drawing on the potential pipeline of current stakeholders (eg parents and alumni) and delegating to/working with the Development Team in its successful delivery.
Lead on new mid/major donor giving and relationships including legacies, personally managing a portfolio of prospects and donors.
Support the Development team to lead in the delivery of NCO’s annual giving programmes, ie Friends and Patrons.
Lead on individual campaigns, working collaboratively with the Development team to maximise opportunities to engage with new supporters through events and matched funding initiatives (eg The Big Give).
Work with the Chief Executive and other senior staff to ensure the continued engagement and support of the NCO Board.
Trusts and Foundations
Lead on fundraising from Trusts & Foundations and other grant giving bodies (excluding statutory funding).
Research and cultivate existing and new funders, working with the Chief Executive, Board and the Development Team to initiate new partnerships and maintaining systems to ensure that those partnerships are successfully managed and sustained.
Prepare compelling major grant applications to secure new funding with sound attention to detail, and work with colleagues by leading and advising on other vital grant applications undertaken by members of the Development team, sharing best practice in fundraising to develop the organisation’s skills.
As part of the Development team, provide appropriate and timely monitoring information to trusts and foundations, as required by their conditions of support including, where appropriate, organising events and visits.
Corporate Fundraising
Lead the Development team on stewarding existing and cultivating new corporate sponsors and ensuring benefits and recognition are delivered across NCO’s marketing channels.
Statutory Funding
Support the Chief Executive and wider team to ensure that NCO fulfils its quarterly and annual reporting requirements to Arts Council England and the Department for Education and in the creation of new funding applications including as part of the next ACE Investment Review.
(NB: The day to day management and reporting requirements of NCO’s NPO and DfE grants will be managed by a newly appointed Business Administrator and overseen by the Chief Executive).
Organisation and Management
Line manage NCO’s Development Manager through individual objective setting and performance management, regular 1:1 meetings and identification of training needs.
Empower the Development team by ensuring they have regular opportunities to develop their skills and experience across different areas of fundraising and through training whilst supporting them wholeheartedly in their professional development.
Inspire and lead the Development team, and set an example, on the application, implementation and adherence to all NCO policies and procedures.
Support the Development team to lead on the development of NCO’s CRM System (Beacon) in specific relation to its fundraising functions, in line with the Data Protection Act.
Maximise the potential of Gift Aid from all donations, supporting the Development team to ensure all donations and payments received are appropriately logged, accompanied by appropriate paperwork and in line with annual audit requirements and submitted in a timely manner.
Produce Development reports for quarterly Board and Finance Committee meetings, attending online and in person as required.
Undertake research and maintain a high level of knowledge about trusts, foundations, individuals, and statutory funding to inform planning.
Represent NCO at conferences undertaking public and media presentations, attending conferences and events and lobbying forums as appropriate

The Head of Development will be a key member of SLT and work closely with the Chief Executive to develop and implement the preexisting fundraising strategy and contribute to the organisation’s communications and PR strategy. They will inherit a strategically developed portfolio of relationships and income streams, with particular strengths in trusts and foundations, and a strong network of individual donors and corporates. There is also a growing legacy circle, created in response to a recent bequest of £1M+. The Head of Development will line manage a small team of two in collaboration with the Communications Manager – the Development & Communications Coordinator, and the Marketing & Communications Coordinator.

As Head of Development you will:
- Work alongside the Chief Executive to develop and implement the fundraising strategy and develop marketing and communications efforts, ensuring cohesive and impactful messaging to effectively engage donors and stakeholders

Ideal skills and experience include:
- Experience of securing 5- and 6-figure grants from a range of trust, statutory and/or individual sources
- Tailoring applications to appeal to a diverse range of funders/donors, which may include drawing together distinct areas of activity to create bespoke packages
- An outgoing, approachable and professional manner in dealing with donors, prospects and other stakeholders
- Enthusiasm for working with young artists and musicians and broadening access to participatory arts for all young people

The Development Coordinator is a new role created to enable the Worthing Theatres & Museum Development team to raise crucial funds that will support the organisation in achieving its ambitious goals.
WTM has recently undergone a significant fundraising review and a new strategy is now in place. This strategy reflects the organisation’s need to increase fundraised income over the next 3 years (2024 - 2027) to meet its ambitious creative and capital plans to deliver on its mission to offer transformative creative experiences for the community of Worthing.
The postholder will work closely with the Head of Development and Development Manager to deliver the ambitious fundraising strategy for WTM. They will be responsible for raising funds of up to £10,000 per application from primarily Trusts and Foundations and some local corporate partners, and supporting the team with operational tasks including financial processes, events and communications.
Main Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Fundraising and Relationship Management
● Manage relationships with Trust and Foundation funders giving up to £10,000 per year including ongoing donor stewardship, reporting writing, crediting etc.
● Secure new income by applying for grants and funding of up to £10,000 to support a range of WTM projects from Trust and Foundations and from local businesses including researching trusts and businesses, identifying suitable projects within the WTM portfolio to apply for, writing bids etc.
Development Operations and Support
● Lead on supporter crediting for the department ensuring that all supporters are acknowledged in relevant digital and print materials across the year.
● Act as day-to-day point of contact for the Development team’s use of the Spektrix database ensuring best practice.
● Work with the Finance team to monitor Development income on a monthly basis and report back to the Head of Development and Development Manager.

The role:
This role is perfect for anybody with the requisite skills who is looking for a career within fundraising or the creative industry. Our Corporate Partnerships Officer will be responsible for assisting the Corporate Partnerships Manager in raising money through corporate contacts to meet financial targets. The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for all corporate enquiries and offer administrative support through record-keeping on the database, managing event bookings, liaising cross-organisationally to secure spaces for events, and working with our in-house caterers, Swan Restaurant and Bar. The Corporate Partnerships Officer will also take a lead role on the creation of marketing assets, monthly corporate newsletters, website updates and the redevelopment or refreshing of our offers (e.g. private box packages) when required.
The skills:
We are looking for a highly-organised and efficient individual with excellent diary management skills and the ability to communicate confidently across all levels of seniority, both internally and externally. The successful candidate will be confident in meeting corporate clients, handling logistics for event bookings and will ideally have experience of using a CRM, such as Tessitura.
Our candidate should also be confident in identifying new business prospects and engaging potential clients either in-person, via email or over the phone. MS Office proficiency is required, as are excellent communication skills across all mediums, and an ability to work as part of a team or independently, using your initiative.

Shakespeare’s Globe receives no annual subsidy from the Arts Council and, therefore, raises a critically important percentage of funds from the public each year. The Development Team focuses on nurturing relationships with Individuals, Trusts and Foundations and Corporates to support us and raise funds across three income streams: revenue, commercial, and capital.
