Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) are recruiting for a Community Activities Coordinator to join our growing, dynamic organisation. This exciting new role will sit within AFRIL's busy Casework and Advocacy Service, working collaboratively with our asylum seeking and recently granted refugee clients to plan and deliver a range of activities, improving wellbeing and community solidarity. 

We are looking for a good people person, able to engage and inspire others, who demonstrates a collaborative approach to working with a range of stakeholders and in particular AFRIL clients who come from a variety of backgrounds. The postholder will be highly organised, have good project planning and execution skills, and a good working knowledge of the issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Community language skills are an asset. 

About AFRIL

Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) is a registered charity that supports asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable migrants in South East London. We support people to lift themselves out of poverty, assert their rights and rebuild their lives in the heart of our community. We provide both crisis support to meet immediate need, and longer-term, flexible programmes to tackle the underlying problems that lead people to be in crisis, supporting people to integrate, contribute and thrive. AFRIL delivers the following core services in the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, Southwark, Bexley and Bromley:

• Rainbow Club Supplementary School - providing weekly supplementary education in English and Maths, arts, music and sports activities to children from refugee, migrant  and asylum seeking backgrounds from 4-11 years old, plus youth volunteering programme and Youth Council (NRCSE and Sanctuary Status). 

• Casework and Advocacy Service: providing AQS accredited advice, casework and legal interventions in asylum support, community care, housing, welfare benefits and related matters. Pre-Action Protocol letters to challenge unlawful public law decisions. The service currently provides Level 1 immigration advice under the Immigration Advice Agency.

• Destitution Support - a fortnightly Food Bank in partnership with St Peter’s Church providing food, food vouchers, toiletries, and other essentials, alongside a warm hub with free cafe, information and support. Small grants for essential items and cash payments for food in emergencies. Securing and distributing gifts in kind, e.g. winter coats, laptops and data. 

• Allotment of Refuge - a welcoming community of food growers that supports improved health, wellbeing and integration of members, whilst protecting the local environment. 

• Immigration Project in partnership with Southwark Law Centre, providing free legal advice and representation to support people to regularise their immigration status. 

We also use our frontline experience, together with our clients, to engage in Policy and influencing work to improve the services and policies that impact our client group. This includes advising the GLA on 3 asylum related working groups, and as a member of the London Housing Panel.

Bright Futures UK supports children and young people aged 5 to 24 whose education has been disrupted due to serious long-term physical or mental health conditions. We offer online one-to-one tutoring, befriending, and mentoring programmes, as well as group programmes including hospital workshops, industry events, and advocacy actions initiatives. Working in close partnership with hospitals, families, and other services, we ensure that children and young people experiencing health-related challenges are not left behind.

Role Overview

This is a key role in the delivery of our online personalised programme. The Senior Coordinator will oversee the children and young people referral pathway, acting as the first point of contact for new referrals and guiding children, young people, and their families, educators, or hospital contacts through every stage of the onboarding process.

You will be responsible for gathering detailed and sensitive information about each young person’s health, education, and wellbeing, to ensure the support they receive is tailored, appropriate, and trauma-informed. Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records is a central part of this role. Referral and Programme Oversight

• Act as the lead contact for all incoming referrals, including those from hospitals, statutory services, community organisations, and families
• Hold safe, compassionate, and confidential conversations with CYPs to understand their needs and gather relevant information around education, physical health, and mental wellbeing

About the Role

We are looking for a Marketing and Communications (M&C) Manager to cover the responsibilities of our current M&C Manager whilst they are on parental leave. You will be collaborating with almost every department across PMC to ensure our activities effectively reach and engage our target audiences. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a unique arts organisation that values creativity and academic rigour.

You will be joining PMC at a formative moment following the recent completion of a strategic review. As M&C Manager you will play a central role in advancing our core priorities: expanding access to the study of British art; embedding research at the heart of all our work; and establishing inclusive, sustainable pathways into the field.

A key component of this role will be enhancing the PMC’s visibility and impact. As the field of British art continues to evolve, we are eager to gain deeper insights into how our work is received and understood – both nationally and internationally – and to articulate our role and influence within the wider community of British art studies.

You will be an advocate for the PMC brand, promoting it both internally and externally, and supporting the organisation in delivering its mission.

During the term of this contract, the department will be undertaking a major redevelopment of its institutional website and implementing a centralised customer relationship management (CRM) system.

PMC is an educational charity that champions new ways of understanding British art history and culture. Who We Need

As Marketing and Communications Manager (Parental Leave Cover), you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and campaigns to promote and communicate PMC’s activities, ensuring that our work reaches and engages a wide audience, both in academic communities and within the general public. You will report to the Digital Lead and manage the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

Advocacy Officer

Our client is looking for a passionate and driven person to champion species and habitats with particular focus on new building developments / demolitions occurring in Cumbernauld, specifically the Town Centre, Community Growth Areas and their partners Sanctuary Scotland. Building on the success of previous projects, this project continues to realise the Cumbernauld Living Landscape long-term vision to improve Cumbernauld’s green spaces for both people and wildlife, helping everyone in the community connect with the nature on their doorstep. 

The candidate:  

The successful candidate will be educated to at least degree level in one of the following: conservation, ecology or related discipline - or equivalent with a minimum of three years previous experience in working in a nature policy environment, ideally in Scotland. 

Main Objectives 

The main objectives of the role are: 

• Delivery of NNC Advocacy Strategy, created during the Development Phase, championing green infra-structure and nature-positivity, with regards to reactive works for the Community Growth Areas (CGA) and proactive for the Town Centre development 

• Building on the existing work of the Trust, create relationships with the Local Planning Authority Planners; developers and businesses. 

• Develop detailed positions to enable the NNC partnership to contribute to and influence the implementation of Green Infrastructure to urban design and construct. 

• Gather evidence and develop a detailed proposal to improve biodiversity, including provision for bats, swift and sparrows, in developments, as well as retaining and enhancing well connected greenspaces, and prioritising native planting regimes to support wildlife across Cumbernauld. 

• Utilise current evidence from Wild Ways Well evaluations to demonstrate the positive links between increased biodiversity and improved health and wellbeing, helping to reinforce the need for good quality Green Infrastructure from a social perspective. 

• Represent the Trust and Cumbernauld Living Landscape. 

• Help keep the NNC team and partners up to date with significant developments in land management policy or legislation which significantly impact on species and habitats. 

• Facilitate the sharing of research and learning between key stakeholders internally/externally and help identify opportunities for aligning policy and conservation work. 

Wider project work 

• Support the team’s wider communications plan. 

• Support project team with events and other project-wide opportunities. 

• Contribute to project reporting, including Monitoring & Evaluation findings across the life of the project. 

• Knowledge sharing with the wider Trust, including recommendations to find centralised funding to potentially expand and continue the role. 

The successful candidate will ideally have: 

• Knowledge of legislative and policy making process in Scotland and Scottish Government priorities.

• Knowledge of environmental governance structures in Scotland and UK.

• Experience of working with senior civil servants, parliamentarians, landowners and managers, NGOs and other key stakeholders regarding species management.

• Excellent written and communication skills.

• Experience of writing briefings, consultation responses and written evidence.

The Role 
 
Reporting to the Retail Development Manager, the Retail Development Officer will support with the continued growth and development of our retail network.

The role holder will actively support the Retail Development Manager to build, deliver, and implement a pipeline of new sites development in retail, including shops, cafes and superstores, Yorkshire Cancer Research Centres, and other retail related projects. 

You will have responsibility of supporting the Retail Development Manager with market analysis and feasibility studies of potential new sites, contributing to the development of business cases, projects plans and delivery of these plans as well as contributing to compliance and ongoing maintenance and required improvements within the retail real estate. There will also be an opportunity for the role holder to inform future decision making through the delivery of business insight, KPI data and other metric reports relating to income. 

Specifically, you will: 

New Developments in Retail 

• Support the Retail Development Manager in exploring and identifying the best locations for new shop openings, including market analysis, feasibility study, site visits, and site presentation. 

• Assist in developing business cases for each new shop, ensuring they are financially viable and key decisions are documented. 

• Support the development of project plans for shop openings, closures, and refits by ensuring suppliers, tradespeople and internal stakeholders are engaged and informed of key dates. 

• Maintain and nurture relationships with appointed property agents to develop a pipeline of potential new shops. 

• Support where possible the recruitment process for new shop managers and volunteers and ensure this is complete in time for each new shop opening. 

• Work alongside the Retail Development Manager to identify new suppliers, ensuring they are suitable, competent, and aligned to our values. 

• Work closely with the Facilities Manager to ensure new shops are in good condition and compliance documents are in place before being handed over to operate under business-as-usual activities. 

• Work collaboratively with the Retail Area Manager, with regards to monitoring compliance with retail policies and procedures, as well as Health & Safety standards. 

• Act as a visible leader in relation to all health and safety responsibilities, taking reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others. Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, processes and procedures. 

• Assist as a contact for leasing and tenancy negotiations and discussions with relevant internal and external stakeholders. 

• Support the Retail Development Manager in developing and testing new income streams, processes, and systems before moving to business-as-usual activities. 

• Undertake regular shop visits/shop floor inspections, directing and supporting the team to deliver creative and inspiring layouts, space planning and use of point of sale to ensure that each shop maximises its sales potential, and that the visual presentation of the shops represents the brand image of Yorkshire Cancer Research. 

Retail Estate Development  

• Support the Retail Development Manager, Retail Area Manager, Director of Retail & Operations, and Shop Managers in regularly reviewing our current retail estate, identifying maintenance and other improvements required. 

• Assist in developing business cases for each project, ensuring they are financially viable and key decisions are documented. 

• Support development of project plans for refurbishments and improvements by ensuring suppliers, tradespeople and internal stakeholders are engaged and informed of key dates. 

Other duties: 

• Support the development and execution of the ten-year Retail business strategy. 

• Deliver key business insight to drive improvements through analysis. 

• Provide regular KPI and metric reports on income to inform future decision making and planning. 

About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to A Level or equivalent or able to demonstrate experience in a similar role at a similar level.

• To ideally hold a  Project Management Qualification : IE APM, PRINCE2

My new role is an Accounts Assistant. The role will begin on a part-time basis, but will eventually move to full-time. This is initially a temporary role but could become permanent for the successful candidate. Duties will include:
Purchase Ledger - Working with the Finance Manager to manage all aspects of supplier invoices and payments.
