Job description
Board MemberTower Hamlets Homes (THH) is an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) a not for profit organisation set up in July 2008 to manage and maintain council homes. We are a legally separate organisation managed by a Board of Directors and are looking to recruit our newest member of this team. We manage approximately 11,000 public housing tenancies and 10,000 leasehold properties. Our board consists of four residents (two tenants and two leaseholders) four Councillors nominated by the mayor of Tower Hamlets and four independent board members. Our board seeks to represent our customers well and as such has a strong and varied scope of expertise, and it is this that we want to add to with our new appointment. Principal Accountabilities:*Working with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, set the strategic direction of THH, agreeing vision and discussing how this can be achieved via translation to organisational strategy.*Monitor and improve the performances and finances of the organisation.*Agree the budget of THH and ensure compliance against this. *Set the service priorities for the organisation each year and monitor subsequent delivery. *Develop innovative strategies as appropriate to either respond to emerging issues or challenges, or to improve services, or enhance the customer experience. *Ensure that risks within are identified, removed or minimised.Abilities:*You will be expected to contribute your particular knowledge and experience to help the Board make the best possible decisions. *You will need to have read the papers and thought about what questions need to be asked, giving advice where required. *You will need to commit to attending Board (and any other required )meetings - likely to be every 6 weeks - and attend any required training. Required expertise:*A track record of operating at a senior level within a large and complex organisation with demonstrable success.*Strong financial acumen, able to understand and interpret large budgets.*Ability to interpret KPIs, data and management information*Previous experience of working within the built environment, construction or major works would be desirable but not essential. This role is not paid, but legitimate expenses incurred whilst undertaking duties as a board member will be reimbursed (e.g. conferences and training and travel or child care).
