Campaigning Jobs
Who We're Looking For:
At NEF, we're searching for a passionate and dedicated person to join us as an Associate Community Organiser. You will have experience of making change happen with communities impacted by inequality. You will be passionate about developing people and working with diverse communities to enable people to make change happen together. You will be a team player, be keen to learn new skills and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be located with a partner organisation rooted in one of four locations across the UK, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, Lambeth, and Newham. You will bring community organising into the work of the organisation and place it right at the centre of the Power to Prosper programme.
Power to Prosper is a partnership project between The Runnymede Trust and New Economics Foundation aimed at tackling the underlying causes of poverty, inequality, and problem debt in the United Kingdom. The project recognises that the existing economic system leads to profound inequalities that disproportionately impact marginalised groups, including Black and minority ethnic communities, single-parent families, and households with disabled members. The programme will also take an intersectional lens with a strong emphasis on race equity.
This work will involve working with NEF and Runnymede teams to listen to people about the causes and potential solutions of inequality, poverty, and problem debt and to equip people that are most impacted with the skills to act together at a local, regional, and national level to address those issues. The successful candidate will report to a Community Organiser. The post sits in the Campaigns and Engagement Team at the New Economics Foundation, and you will work closely with colleagues at the Runnymede Trust. You must have a demonstrable commitment to anti-racism and have a track record of working with impacted groups with a good understanding of the wider context that causes inequality.
NEF wants to be an inclusive workplace with a diverse body of staff. We don’t want to conform to the traditional think tank model where people from certain backgrounds are hugely under-represented. We know we have some way to go in this and are therefore genuinely keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic people; women; people with disabilities or impairments; people who identify as LGBT+; people with experience of mental health problems; and people who identify as working class or have done so in the past.
Previous think tank experience is not required.
If you are disabled and have the essential skills and experience to do the job, we will invite you to an interview. If you need information in a different format, please let us know.
We will make use of positive action to select between candidates of equal merit as a way to address under-representation in our workforce.
Application Details:
· Deadline: 10th May 2024
· Online Event with Partners: 7th May at 12pm and 5pm
· Interview Dates: w/c 20th and w/c 27th May 2024
· Start Date: As soon as possible
· Location: Hybrid, with partner organization
· Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

Interested in an exciting role which helps protect forests, the climate and human rights? This may be the job for you.
Earthsight is looking for an experienced campaigner to lead our policy and comms work delivering impactful analyses and advocacy on the impacts of Western consumption on the world’s forests, native biomes and local communities.
Earthsight is a non-profit organisation dedicated to researching and investigating environmental and social crime and injustice. We use cutting-edge investigative methods to uncover and expose wrongdoing. Since emerging as a fully-fledged organisation in 2016, our reports have garnered headlines, won awards and triggered major changes by governments and corporations.
We seek to create positive change by influencing government policy, uncovering greenwash and raising awareness among key constituencies about the impacts of global supply chains on the world’s forests and forest communities.
Most global deforestation is driven by industrial production of a handful of major commodities, including beef, soy, palm oil and wood. A large chunk of this production is to meet demand in Western consumer markets. Over the past few years, Earthsight has played a key role in highlighting the complicity of corporations and consumers in the EU, UK and US in the destruction of forests overseas, as well as the abuses of local people which accompany that destruction. As part of a global coalition, we have succeeded in getting laws passed or under development in all those jurisdictions which aim to clean up these supply chains. Now we need to ensure those laws are effectively enforced.
This role will be key to that. As part of a small team, you will help design and coordinate implementation of our policy strategy and outputs. You will represent the organisation in meetings with policymakers, government authorities and civil society, as well as help draft and disseminate policy briefings and other advocacy material. You will also oversee our comms work.

Earthsight is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to ensuring careers in the charity sector are open to all. We value difference and believe it enhances our capabilities. We therefore particularly encourage applications from people from a range of different backgrounds.

- Participate in relevant civil society coalitions in Europe and the UK and coordinate Earthsight’s inputs and contributions to coalition work
- Build and maintain relationships with key policy stakeholders in Europe and the UK, including policymakers, civil servants, civil society, enforcement authorities
- Attend relevant international conferences and meetings

Your work will influence government, central banks, regulatory authorities and the finance sector itself to respond to climate change and nature loss, and deliver the transition to a net zero economy. You will support policy development to transform the financial sector in the UK and beyond, focusing on government policy and regulation.
This will involve analysing existing and proposed policies for effectiveness and collaborating with colleagues to make the case for action and implementation to key stakeholders on proposed policy changes. You will also maintain oversight of the sustainable finance policy landscape internally and externally and be alert to new developments and policy ideas. You will produce technical reports, documents and briefings as well as commission research and consultants as needed. It will be important to build links and strategic relationships with other organisations and other parts of the global network of WWF offices to maximise our effectiveness.
You must have experience of policy development and / or financial sector regulation and an understanding of the sustainable finance landscape. Your expertise will likely have been gained in a government department, central bank, regulator, or a thinktank or NGO working on this agenda. You will also have a record of developing and influencing key stakeholders, influencing opinions and practices and creating new models to deliver policy change. Politically aware, you will possess a strong understanding of how policy is influenced, both inside and outside Government as well as how policy and politics interact and how one can be used to influence the other. Expert at identifying key or underlying issues in complex situations, you will be experienced in conducting or using research to develop ideas and make the case for them. You will possess excellent influencing, relationship building and communication skills too.
